The LEGO series has an odd relationship with Nintendo hardware. In the current generation we've had the rather good LEGO City: Undercover as a Wii U exclusive, but multiple major releases in the franchise have left the Nintendo system out of its DLC. Yet LEGO Marvel's Avengers on Wii U provided a welcome change with a full season pass and DLC line-up, only missing out on PS4-exclusive extras.
Unfortunately LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is going back to old form with a Season Pass that's evidently skipping Wii U. The press release announcing the content lists "PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Steam (Windows PC)"; that also means the 3DS misses out, but the portable entries in the series have often followed their own path.
For those with supported systems the season pass will cost $9.99 / £7.99 and have three level packs along with five character packs; each level pack will otherwise be $2.99 / £2.50 with character packs being $1.99 / £1.70. Those with the season pass will also get The Jedi Character Pack included on launch day.
We're rather disappointed, all told, especially as the level packs seem to have some decent content; details are below.

Finally, PS4 and Xbox One are getting Deluxe Editions that include a season pass and more besides.

We've reached out to Warner Bros. Interactive for comment, and will update this article should we get a response.
Ultimately the inconsistency of DLC support in the LEGO games is ongoing - the Wii U's limited userbase is likely the reason for this, though that doesn't make it any less disappointing.

Well 3rd parties have been nothing if not consistent in ignoring Wii U when it comes to DLC and added extras like online multiplayer. It's been the case all throughout its lifetime.
Does that mean they'll make the game cheaper on Wii U as compensation? I didn't think so. But people knowing that the Wii U won't get the DLC will hurt sales.
It's a shame really as the DLC seems very reasonably priced.
Here's my problem, I want that dlc but there's no better way to play 2 player Lego then the Wii U with gamepad and tv screen implementation.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE The weird thing is though that the last game (Avengers) got the dlc.
Hopefully, it will be added in the future. This is just another reason why the NX needs to be on par with its competitors!
@A01 SO TRUE.
And this is yet another game to add to the pile of shame, that pile of shame being pathetic 3rd party attempts on Wii U. I have a PS4 and Xbox One, so even though I very much wanted to get this on Wii U the choice has been taken out of my hands. I don't understand why people supposedly draw the conclusion that Nintendo fans hate 3rd party games when all the evidence they put forward to support that are sorry attempts like these.
Why should people be OK with this? I most certainly am not, yet I'm the bad guy for some reason for not kissing their feet and saying "thank you master" whilst preordering it.
Screw Warner Bros and corporate apologists.
@A01 Completely agree.
I think Lego Avengers made this a 50-50 coin flip proposition, not surprised either way, but disappointing none the less. Glad we weren't planning on getting this.
Still no word on the next Lego game? At this rate the next game may skip both Wii U and NX entirely if it's a holiday or early 2017 release. A holiday without DI or a Lego game would seem weird. I think my entire Christmas list may be filled with old PS4 games - Knack, infamous 2nd Son, Uncharted 4 and Lego Dimensions. Guess I'l save a ton of money not buying any new games.
Welp, guess I'll skip the Lego train once again, or at least wait a few months for an inevitable sale. This is the most haphazard generation in the history of video games. -_-
I really want to support the Wii U. Don't make me buy this on PS3....
@TheLastLugia I own ps4 Xbox one and Wii u too ... But to be honest the prices of games on Nintendo eshop is reducoils ... You pay 10$ for a VC game while you get a AAA game with 50+ hr game play better graphics better online for 10 to 20$ On Xbox or ps4 !!! ... That's why I avoid buying games from eshop ... And yes you need to buy it for your Wii U and again for your 3ds !! The same damn game ! Why ? ... It's cross buy for ps4/PS3/ vita
Unfortunate. PS4 is calling but we are broke this year so maybe not.
@peeks Why isn't it crossbuy for the 360/One? From what I have played of a couple of previous Lego portable games, the games aren't exactly the same as the ones on the console at least for the Nintendo systems.
This better not be the case going forward on the NX. As it stands I'll get this game on the PS3 now.
@peeks The eShop deals/sales drive me crazy. I really wish they ran flash sales the way Sony does.
@LegendOfPokemon This... doesn't have literally anything to do with the NX. Please. This is just about Warner Bros refusing to release DLC on the Wii U.
@Mr_Zurkon deals ? Lol I can't see any deals when they take 1$ or 2$ Off ! 😂 ... Nintendo has no manners or loyality to us
@peeks whilst I'm sure that's a heck of a lot of good reasons to back up a particular argument that is out there somewhere, it has absolutely 0.0 relevance to the discussion here, namely being that it's not nearly enough to point at low sales for Mass Effect 3, Watch_Dogs and now this among many other 3rd party Wii U games that have been treated like worse than an afterthought of an afterthought and conclude that Nintendo fans are terrible people and Ubisoft, Warner Bros and EA deserve to be treated better by them. It works both ways as far as I'm concerned.
But yeah those VC prices without cross buy, they're not acceptable in 2016. And whilst we're just bringing up random things did you hear Mourinho is going to be the new manager of Manchester United. Shocking stuff.
@Mr_Zurkon @peeks Its worth noting guys that Nintendo gave publishers the right to set their own sales and prices. I have no idea why the Wii U doesn't get flash sales but when it comes to third parties on eShop that's publishers fault.
@Smash_kirby I'm not sure since I don't own 360 ... But Lego games are basic in general comparing to other video games .. They don't require high standards system that's why it's easy to port it to Wii U
@TheLastLugia I'm not sure about that guy lol since I have no clue about his history ... But I don't like what Reggie is doing and in not happy with his leadership Nintendo is not the same what they used to be specially the last 6 years to me ... Yet I'm so happy with my 3ds and the games line ... Fantastic !!! But Wii U hmmmm not really
welp! XBONE version it is. i don't need a unsupport version that's not getting DLC. although i do agree i hate how devs use the time to make paid DLC, it could even be done the RIGHT way like Splatoon is doing, Splatoon! the Game that beat Call of Duty and all of the other shooters at the Game Awards.
@peeks That's fine, but again you are 100% off topic. Why did an article about a half-baked version of The Force Awakens published by Warner Bros turn into a discussion on Nintendo's VC prices and how evil Reggie is? Who? Why? How? When? What?
I just don't get why people like you have this angle. Regardless I've made my point so I'm out.
PS4 it is. And preowned. Because Warner Bros are stinky brains whose brains stink like brains that are stinky.
PS WB suck. Did you hear there was that one time just last year that they knowingly released a broken game on one platform and then said that they had quality standards and that they value their customers? Oh how I laughed and laughed and laughed.
WB more like WP with the 'p' standing for poo because that's what they are. Oh I'm too cool for school.
And I know this stopped being funny a while ago but whatever, I'm bored.
The more surprising reveal for me personally is that there's a Lego game with profanity in it.
@MysteryAozz Have to disagree there, DLC is fantastic when used right! Nintendo just needs to treat 3rd parties better when the NX comes.
@Grumblevolcano I refer you to my original comment
If true, hopefully this carries it's impact directly to the thoughts and decisions on future consoles. My son treats Nintendo as an outsider because of major games passing Wii U and when they do arrive they are more often than not missing something. Rarely is Nintendo ever the better choice when it comes to cross platform titles.
Okay, this is a bit annoying since I really do like the Lego games. Might just get it on Steam. Don't think there's any point at this stage in buying for Wii U to encourage them to release more content. That ship seems to have sailed.
Was Lego Dimensions gimped on Wii U as well?
Why is anyone surprised? This has been the story on Wii U since day one.
Is anyone actually surprised? I think the surprise in everything was that the 3DS randomly got Avengers DLC. This website needs to stop being stupid on purpose and just admit it's no surprise and something everyone should have expected.
@PleaseUnderstan Slight perfomance drop in some small sections is all the difference on Wii U. Otherwise, levels are the same (and so is the potential for extremely costly dlc). I'd prefer the digital content alone, but...
Why release the game on Wii U at all, if they don't offer the complete game?
How much more would it cost to port the DLC? 10% more than the main game? It may be that a higher percentage of customers, than the additional DLC porting cost, that choose to buy it on another platform.
Why do they send the game out to die on Wii U? It is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
The prequel trilogy character pack includes Jar Jar, but not General Grievous?!
@CrazedCavalier what? theres a lego game with profanity in it?
PC it is then...
Does anyone know if this PS Exclusive DLC for Lego Marvel Avengers is going to come to other consoles? The Civil War one was meant to come earlier this month and then Ant Man is July.
@A01

Indeed, back when the console wars didn't affect multiplatform games' content. And when they did, it was for the better.
That counts as three generations' worth of won console wars to me.
@Parkour_LMan And why did Warner Bros refuse to release DLC for the Wii U? (Not saying it has to do with hardware, but...)
I'm getting the deluxe edition anyway.
Sadly, I have come to understand that for third party games, Nintendo platforms are not the option if those games are multiplatform. We always miss something, being it DLC, online services termination, or lousy ports. And this is since the Wii times. The last straw for me was the Rock Band hoax. Now I have a huge song library on Wii sitting there withput the option to export it to a current gen console.
Avengers got the DLC but I believe that it was a test and that we will now not get SW DLC because it didn't go well.
I'm confused as to why you would sabotage your own product by guaranteeing to your potential consumers that you're not interested in future support for it by leaving out DLC (and therefore updates/patches in general for it) but the Wii U certainly gets this attitude by third parties a lot...almost like the release on Wii U is done out of hatred and doubt right from the beginning. Better than no release at all? Maybe...but not for most which is why they will ignore the Wii U release.
Really upset if this doesn't go to it. There's a pre order bonus for this game which includes dlc, I asked the lady if it comes for wiiu too and she says its for all except 3DS but I guess she made a mistake. "The Prequel Trilogy Character Pack" sounds really awesome and I'd buy that in a heartbeat!
@Mr-X9000 Looking at the preview image above:
"E10+: Cartoon violence, comic mischief, mild language"
@Mr_Zurkon I get the feeling it will be.
Keep in mind; the Wii had ten times the userbase of other consoles in its gen, and yet games like CoD still didn't sell well because they didn't get their full range of content.
Even if the NX turns out to nab a huge opening install base, third parties will just screw up again.
It's the norm for them on Nintendo home consoles, and has been since way back in the NES era when Nintendo had to be heavy-handed with them just to guarantee some semblance of consistent quality. [In hindsight it probably wasn't a good idea to be as heavy-handed as they were, but it really was needed at the time, all circumstances considered.]
fk you 3rd party devs/except for platinum cutting us out on dlc this is the reason why cod base on the wii u was so low cause of this $hit
I presume that WB must base their decisions by all titles sold, as the Lego games sold better on the Wii than the 360/PS3 and sell fairly equally on the Wii U compared to the XBO/PS4. It did drop off a bit with Lego Batman 3 (which didn't have the dlc on the Wii U), so it doesn't make much sense to leave it out when it'll have a negative effect on the sales.
Now I have the choice of either buying a gimped game on the Wii U or the full game on XBO/PS3. It wouldn't be a hard decision except that I don't own extra controllers on XBO/PS4, so I can't play multiplayer on those platforms. Maybe I'll wait for it to go on Gold or PS+ so I can offset the cost of another controller.
One day we will tell our grandkids about a bygone era, before scrappy DLC and microtransactions, where frivolous game content was known as 'unlockables'.
With all that DLC spanning the previous 6 movies in some form(playable Jar Jar ftw!) and all the cartoon series, they could've just made one mega Lego Star Wars game. Maybe "Lego SW Legends", or "Lego SW Generations?"
Modern gaming is becoming less of a hobby and more of an investment as we go on with this day one DLC crap...
Remember when Lego games were actually released AFTER they were finished?
That's ashame if the Wii U misses out on the season pass n any special editions but I don't play many Lego game but I'll probably get the Wii U version another game too play.
Damn. Was planning to get this on Wii U if it had parity with other consoles, which for a Lego game seemed fairly likely.
I bought the DLC for the Avengers game, a month before I even bought the game itself. Becase I wanted to support even treatment with DLC on Wii U. Looks like i am back to watching this game as an Let's Play again.
Well that's just behaviour from Warner Bros once again. Just got Lego StaWa Ep7 yesterday and finally thought maybe I can play the c3po red arm mission etc, but once again WB has crapped their pants.
WB needs to be run down with a bulldozer.
And anyway this kind of business decisions are the lowest of loweest crap. Deciding to cut content from the game as DLC before the game is even ready.
@Kolzig No profanity, thanks.
@gcunit yes, understood. Sorry for my choice of words.
