The latest Media Create Japanese chart results are in, and this week reflect one notable sales trend from the West with a big-name shooty-shooty-bang-bang game making a strong debut and boosting Sony's hardware, while there's also a major release on 3DS.
Yes, Call of Duty: Black Ops III takes top spot in the software charts, showing that futuristic gunplay goes down well in pretty much all territories. Disney Magical World 2 makes its debut on 3DS in second place, meanwhile, though its result of 73,824 units is down on the 119,154 sales that its predecessor achieved on the same system back in August 2013. Further down are some old favourites on Wii U and 3DS, while LEGO Jurassic World on 3DS has a low-key arrival - the top 20 is below with lifetime sales in brackets.

Moving onto hardware sales, the success of CoD has given the PS4 a notable boost, with the 3DS LL (XL) comfortably second with a minor boost courtesy of Disney and its magical world. The big winner was actually the smaller New 3DS, more than likely courtesy of a handsome bundle for the Disney release; the Wii U also gains some sales to come in at a smidge under five figures. The results are below with last week's sales in brackets.
- PlayStation 4 – 33,442 (22,104)
- New 3DS LL – 18,496 (16,824)
- PlayStation Vita – 13,085 (14,366)

- 3DS – 965 (988)
- Xbox One – 825 (534)
- PlayStation Vita TV – 723 (807)
- 3DS LL – 474 (509)
A decent week from a Nintendo perspective, though Bandai Namco may be disappointed to see its latest release in the Disney series fall below its predecessor.

Was Disney Magical World 2 also announced for the West? Haven't heard much about the game. My brother liked the first one a lot.
Strange, would have thought the Disney game would outsell it's predecessor seeing as this one has Frozen characters in it. I suppose Disney can take refuge that by this time next week, Disney Magical World 2 will have outsold a 'main series' Zelda game.
Sony has to be happy with those results. Meanwhile Nintendo keeps trucking along with some evergreen titles.
It's good to be a squid, it gives Splatoon legs.
Seriously though, still in the top 10 at #9 and it came out way back in May, that's pretty good. And it has triple SMM sales. The only game in the top 20 that released before it is Minecraft. And if you can be in the same sentence as Minecraft you have to be doing pretty well.
If COD outsells SMM in Japan that just isn't good for Mario. It probably won't, but I think it bares watching.
I'm not a fan of BO III at all, but hell if it doesn't make me happy to see Disney get slapped!
i really hope that we get disney's magical world 2. I really love my Disney games and I loved the first one
The fact that there IS a Frozen world sapped all the interest I had with the game.
@Mogster which zelda game
@Oubie I thought I read somewhere that it was coming west but no date had been announced. However don't quote me on that. I will poke around and see if I can find that article. I think Nintendo published the first game for the west and I would assume that if it does come west the same would probably need to happen. I loved the first game and I'm a 50 year old man. It had something for all ages in it. It would be a damn shame if this version didn't make it.
I love seeing how low the numbers are in comparison to NA. #20 only gets about 4000 sales, that's like one game in the entire city I live in here...
Another crap rehash still running on a modified Quake 3 engine from 1999? Welcome to the next gen.
I hope those numbers don't make them hesitant about localizing disney magical world 2. I'm really looking forward to it.
To be fair, I don't think the general audience in Disney Magical World are so into Day 1 buys, since they're mostly children without jobs.
@Kyloctopus
Not exactly. They are mostly nagging children without jobs!!
This pic of Olaf is really freaking me out. I mean, he looks so stretched. My cousin really looked forward to the first one, so I bought it for her as a christmas gift last year. She hasn't mentioned it since then. I assume she isn't very fond of it.
@faint Tri-force heroes, of course!
Did they lead the advertising with that screenshot? If not they should...because Frozen can sell paper bags.
Namco most be a really huge deal in Japan. They seem to get the licenses to almost all the anime games there.
