Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer is arriving in Europe on 2nd October, and the region's subsidiary has now confirmed release details of various bundles and packs that'll give all 3DS owners a chance to get hold of the game and some amiibo cards.
The cards themselves are detailed a little, too. There'll be 'special amiibo cards' to unlock character's house that otherwise can't be designed in the game, and other cards with characters that can otherwise eventually be encountered. In terms of separate card packs, aside from bundles, each pack will have three cards - one will be a 'special' and the other two will be standard.
A range of bundles will be coming to Europe, and these are fundamentally the same as those coming to Japan this week. Details are below, and include options for the NFC reader / writer (which will also be sold separately) that supports amiibo on original 3DS systems.
- New Nintendo 3DS + Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Pack: a white New Nintendo 3DS system with a digital copy of Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, a unique set of cover plates and one special amiibo card
- New Nintendo 3DS XL Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Edition: a white New Nintendo 3DS XL system with a unique, game-themed cover design, a digital copy of Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and one special amiibo card
- Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer + NFC Reader/Writer Pack: a physical copy of the Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer game, one special amiibo card and the NFC Reader/Writer accessory
- Standalone NFC Reader/ Writer accessory
- New Nintendo 3DS cover plates No. 5 (featuring K.K. Slider), 6 (featuring Isabelle) and 27 (featuring a variety of animals from the series).
- Series 1 Animal Crossing amiibo cards Pack: each pack contains 1 special amiibo card and 2 regular amiibo cards)
In addition, "a limited number" of physical game copies sold in stores at launch will also include one special amiibo card.
We're hopeful that stock of the cards and non-hardware bundles will be reasonable, not to mention the NFC accessory for those that aren't on the New Nintendo 3DS train.
Are you tempted by any of these options?

I think they may be banking a little too much on this title.
less cards and over priced in the UK, I bet
I do like that New XL but i'd rather have a physical copy of HHD.
Wondering how much the cards and NFC accessory will cost in Europe... Also, get ready for the shortage of cards in 3, 2, 1...
Gotta sell all them accessories and collectibles though.
Wow, those amiibo cards look similar to the e-reader cards. Oh well, bring on the NX. Nintendo has failed to make use of the Wii U hardware to make a real animal crossing game.
I am 31 years old and play animal crossing from time to time.... I also have an aeronautical engineering degree :/
The only thing that puts me off this game is the random card aspects. It's ridiculous.
@Varathius ...okay...what does your degree have to do with the games you play?! Are you saying you're too smart to play AC?
I don't have an engineering degree so maybe i'm missing something here?
Don't do that, Nintendo. Packing special cards as part of the bundles is one hell of a jerk move, at least if these cards are actually unique ones.
Usually NA follows after Europr so I hope they confirm this for NA soon!
Not wild about blind packs myself but kids like the trading experience and you only get that with blind packs and duplicates. So, as much a cash grab this sales tactic is, it's noteworthy that there is a segment of fans that actually prefers it this way. I just like to collect what I want and know what I'm getting, myself.
Wow, that's a lot of coverage and variety for what I've read can hardly even be consider to be "a game". SSB for 3DS came out last year w/ no NFC reader and no cards. I guess the Japanese market will eat this up, meanwhile in the US no use for the daceplates.
Maybe Nintendo will release new 3DS in the US this year same time as this game? Or at least a new 2DS w/ NCF support? They've been on a good roll for a few days now so it's possible.
I don't have kids or a degree but I will be playing this game 😃
The cards will NOT be £19.99 when they are released. They come in a three pack and there 100 to collect. Nintendo would be vilified if the priced them at this much. I expect them to be no more than £3.
I have grown kids, grandkids, a degree and absolutely no interest in this cash-grab abomination.
I won't be buying any of this crap, unless it's priced reasonably. Although seeing as this is Nintendo we're talking about...
@k8sMum I bet you'd LOVE this game if you had a degree in engineering though!
@smikey Doesn't Argos sells stuff like that in bundles, though? I swear they used to.
Oh dear God, you have to buy the bundle to get special edition cards? So are these gonna be mass produced game bundles because if not, they're gonna get scalped within minutes.
No. Just a greedy cash grab. Bring us a real animal crossing game instead to the Wii U!
I really wanted the New 3DS XL, but I never liked the colors. If that one comes to NA I will snag it as fast as I can.
I have no desire to play this game....but go get 'em Animal Crossing fans!
You do not need the cards. You do not need the cards. You do not need the cards........ You know what, I'm getting the cards.....
Never can I remember not wanting a Nintendo game so much! Glad others are looking forward to it though
I'm a tad confused.
So each pack is 3 blind bagged cards. 2 of those cards will be standard villagers. 1 will be a 'special' card which is basically a character like Tom Nook or KK Slider, let's call that a 'character' card for now.
I got that bit.
The game will not need to cards to play, but if you scan a card you can get that animal straight away instead of waiting for them to randomly pop in? A nice way to play with your favourites I guess.
Except if you want to design a house for the likes of Nook and Slider, you do in fact need a card of that character?
And some games come bundled with a 'special' card. Now is that just a 'character' card as described before or is that a special card unique to that bundle?
Basically what I want to know is; can I get all the cards without having to buy the game?
Damn...Nintendo is promoting this game harder than they promoted Pokémon or Smash Bros. All those bundles are going to sell a good number of New 3DSs and New 3DS XLs (and NFC readers and amiibo cards and faceplates) upon release. I presume that all the non-standard New 3DS bundles will make its way to North America.
I'm soooo looking forward to these cards. I'm really iffy about the game but for some reason Nintendo doesn't have it on the Gamescom show floor... :/
@hopfolla You don't have to buy the cards to play the game, it's already a good standalone title as it is.
Only Japan and North America got the Animal Crossing: New Leaf limited edition XL back in 2013. Then again, that bundle didn't come with possible exclusive collectables...
@Fernink But there's a lot of content locked behind amiibo cards but unlike Splatoon where you can just buy specific amiibo you obtain 3 random cards which I expect will be like Pokémon where some cards are common, some are uncommon and some are rare.
@datamonkey Have you not seen Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival? At least this has some kind of gameplay. That, however, is an even more shameless cash-in on the popularity of amiibo - dev even said they only made it to get the amiibo produced. That's the game that gets the title of "least wanted" in my book.
Meanwhile in America...
@Kaegi Europe got it too. I bought one.
@Sakura Yeah, but the "game" itself is "free". So you only need one amiibo to unlock it really,
@ROBLOGNICK Yes, it is free (an indication of quality!) and I don't even mind that the game is lacklustre because it did get us the amiibo. However, you will need one amiibo per player, so £20 minimum for this "free" offering. I think it's a missed opportunity in terms of gameplay, but not bothered as there's so much else worth playing.
Please, oh please be released in NA. My old Animal Crossing XL is on it's last leg and this would be the perfect replacement. DON'T DENY ME, NINTENDO.
@Sakura Ah yes I forgot about AC Festival! Count me in on that one too... Or should I say count me out!? lol
I will get the game, the covers are nice for my new 3ds too But I'm not going to obsess about these plastic stuff of Amiibo, figures look nice and stuff, but cards? Nope.
I think I will just stick with Happy Home Designer and if I do want to play Amiibo Festival I will simply buy one of these card packs or one of the Amiibo that will be made available.
I love how everyone is saying, that this is just cash grab, but when we go back to pokémon cards, it was the same thing, so why did you love that, but you hate this?
I liked how Animal Crossing was straight forward: you buy the game and play the game and enjoy the hell out of the game. This money-grab from compulsive collectors is a bit much.
@Pixelorez I didn't love that. I've never played Pokemon.
