Mewtwo amiibo Spotted In The Wild

Looks pretty nice! Since it's Pokemon though, it's probably compatible with nothing, much like the others. Seems like the type of one solely for displaying. Not a bad thing though; since this looks terrific.

So badass!

No way will the final version look that good, but if it does I'd definitely buy one.

So out of the characters that are currently in Smash Bros, we only need to see Lucas, Roy and Ryu in Amiibo form (assuming "Costume Characters" like The Koopa Kids and Alph won't get Amiibo as they are more costumes than full characters)! Wonder if Mewtwo will be coming before the year is over or if we will get him early next year.

@Plainsville There's always that fighting game if it even comes to consoles soon. Plus whatever Game Freak's working on next (XY sequel, 3rd version, whatever.) they could add Amiibo support to that. It be cool if you scan Mewtwo in and you got a free Mewtwo in the game...

This thing looks BEAUTIFUL. I really hope it won't be too hard to find, because I would love to have a couple (one for me, one for bro). I have a feeling it will though, since it is a DLC character and I have a feeling DLC amiibo will be impossible to find, especially if retail-exclusive. Or maybe that isn't how they're distributing it, maybe they're distributing it along with the other DLC amiibo through some sort of special means (hopefully not ). Who knows, maybe they'll be available to the public and come with a download code for that fighter. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

He would be nice to get, but there are other characters coming out I want more badly, like R.O.B. and Mr. Game & Watch

Makes me wonder if using a DLC character amiibo will unlock said character in-game if you don't already own them. It would suck if someone bought a Mewtwo for their kid (assuming all of the planets align on a full moon and the average consumer could walk in and buy one from a retailer) and then found out they have to shill out another 4 bucks just to use the thing.

Since you don't actually get to play as the character when using amiibo, you most likely could use Mewtwo, even if you don't have the DLC yourself.

Mewtwo and Mew are are must haves for me, even tho I've avoided the rest of the Pokemens.

I can already tell that there won't be enough stock, and it'll be impossible to find.

@Grumblevolcano Ditto, and that's probably a good thing. My local TRU had +150 Greninjas at launch. Sure they sold out but its a far cry better than EB/Gamestops pathetic half dozen units.

Second, I know a comment section is for opinions, and as I said, I respect yours. However, just scroll over the comments on here and look at how many come from you and NintendoFan64. I don't think that the comment section of an article about Mewtwo is meant for a discussion about Game & Watch. It's fine you give your opinion, but there's no need for you to get into an argument that takes up over half of the comment section, because that only makes it harder for other readers to find other opinions, exactly what the comment section is meant for, as you said. @Jazzer94 I don't see anything that wouldn't be possible via mass producing unlike some Amiibos from the first wave prototypes.

What I have to wonder is how they'll handle distribution. I mean, these are figures for DLC, so how would they work. Let's say I don't have the DLC installed, when I scan the Amiibo, will it tell me to buy it?
All I can imagine is some little kid who doesn't even know what DLC is really wanting a Mewtwo Amiibo (most kids aren't gonna know who Lucas and Roy.) and getting it only to find out that he can't use it.

@Zelda64L Considering can't play as Amiibo characters and updates contain the characters maybe you can use it without buying the DLC.
But I dn't know if there would be any people who use Amiibo fighters and would think the Mewtwo Amiibo would unlock the DLC - if they don't have the DLC maybe they would be more likely to think it was like the Splatoon figures which obviously don't do anything in Smash Bros.

Not a fan of Pokemon, but I'll hand it to them, the Mewtwo character is one of the better designed Pokemon characters besides their poster child Pikachu. I would buy it if I sae it on a store rack, but IMO not going out of my way to procure one. It can stay of eBay...

4/6 for pokemon amiibo atm, if I can get zard and this then i'll have 6/6
