While a number of 3DS fans in North America are waiting for the smaller New Nintendo 3DS model to arrive, those eyeing up the New XL may soon have an extra choice in stores.
At launch North America had the metallic red unit - which was only in NA - and the black equivalent, but it seems like the region will soon have the metallic blue system which has previously been available in PAL territories and Japan.
This is according to Play-Asia - hat tip to Nintendo Tweet - which is listing an NTSC version to be released in August. The import site is giving the option to save the listing for later once pre-orders go live.
Are any of you in North America tempted by this?

I wish this color blue was released for the original 3DS lol but since I have the Majora's Mask new 3DS, all I can do is look at this one and say pretty. Seriously, that "cosmic blue" from before wasn't blue at all! This one is much prettier.
I wanted this color, but it didn't look like it was coming to the US so I bought the red one. Big mistake for me since I love the color blue!
They can produce more colors, but can't make a non XL model for NA? Pa-lease.
And I bought my red one less than a week ago...
That would be my preferred color of it wasn't for the monster Hunter system.
Eh. Just got the black one a few days ago.
if that's happen i hope the other countries get the red new 3ds xl but i got the black new 3ds few week ago so there is no need for me to buy a new 3ds xl anyway
Would've waited for this one if I wasn't able to get the Majora's Mask LE.
Where's the standard model, sigh.
I'm fine with either Red even though blue's my favorite color. After all, Red used to be the color logo for Nintendo and now its more of a grey.....which looks like Nintendo is ageing......which makes me sad so I wanted to feel happy by getting red.
I loved the Metallic Blue DSi, so this is great news if it's coming to America because I still haven't bought a new 3DS yet.
I wish you could pay a reasonable fee to have your system sent to Nintendo to get the color changed
That way I could keep my games and data, and have my favorite color
This is the one I have. (I'm in PAL)
About time!
Looks nice. I might get this color when I buy a New 3DS.
I like my famicom red better
@Jake_homs @iphys Agreed. Good for the consumers who want the N3DSXL, but I want the standard-sized one (hopefully the white-colored one will come to the US). I'll be sticking to my original Aqua Blue 3DS for the time being.
This is all Muricans will eeeevverr get from NoA. Because they are being so gracious to release a new SKU here, they want allll Nintendo fans to buy em all and pledge their eteeernal allegiance to themmmm.
...I'm been playing Re;Birth3 a little too much....
@Jake_homs
Reggie only said to look forward to new SKUs, which could just mean new colors or LEs.
This is most likely what he meant.
I was really annoyed that they didn't come out with this one in the USA. I eventually got my hands on the Majora's Mask LE which I probably like best, but for the longest time I was annoyed that I couldn't find one and couldn't settle for the blue one either instead. It's such a nice blue color, reminds me of my electric blue original DS but toned down to be easier on the eyes.
Mine is the silver MH4U one. I have no regrets.
Are there any N3DS limited editions coming out in the US? If not, I'm going to buy a red one, but I don't-a want-a buyer's re-amorse. Yaknowhatimsayin?
This is the color I really wanted, so if I ever decide to upgrade, I'll get this. I still don't think I'm going to upgrade though, I'm perfectly happy with my XL!
Even though most of the excitement for me has passed I'd still be interested in the smaller size New 3ds.
I like the white one better
This really upsets me if this is true. Yes I probably shouldn't complain because I was able to get the MM n3ds xl but in truth this blue color was the color that I really wanted and I'm really pissed that they couldn't release it in the US sooner;(
Looks like the time has come to buy a New 3ds!
I love the color. However, none of the exclusive N3DS games interest me. I'll save my money for upcoming games.
@iphys @Jake_homs @StephenYap3
Ditto to all that. Hope it gets announced sometime in the next few months--especially the white one, as you said, Stephen.
@AVahne
Possible. However, two things to note: 1) The comment was part of a reply to an inquiry as to the standard New 3DS's North American fate. In addition, he prefaced the SKU line with the phrase, "Not going to make any promises but..." I would find that preliminary phrase kind of silly if he was merely talking about releasing new colors for the XL. As in, 'Not going to make any promises, but... maybe, just MAYBE, we'll do the thing that we always do with every handheld system that you're already expecting--release additional colors.' See what I mean? It would be kind of ridiculous to speak of such a prospect like it was some shocking, unexpected notion. But more importantly, 2) There was a second interview with Reggie from E3 that was published, and in it he stated:
"Our focus is over the current six- to nine-months. In our handheld space, we’ve just launched the new Nintendo 3DS XL. So from that standpoint, there is no new hardware coming over the next six- to nine-month period. There might be some new variants. The thing about the handheld space, consumers love new designs, new colors. And we’ll continue to offer those types of experiences."
(I inserted the bold.) Source: http://www.gonintendo.com/stories/237366-reggie-teases-colors-variants-for-new-3ds-xl-nx-development-ami
So, speaking of the next 6 to 9 months, he said that while there of course won't be any all-new (next gen) handheld system, they will continue to offer new variants--new colors AND new designs. Nothing is ever official until announced, of course, and maybe it won't come. But after this interview and the other one, I've become much more optimistic regarding the standard's release here. Either way, we'll have to wait and see.
I'm happy for those who wanted the Metallic Blue XL. I actually think that one looks the nicest of the XL colors. I can only hope the standard size comes soon too.
It's cool but I would rather get the standard new Nintendo 3ds with cover plates!
@ThomasBW84
Dear Mr. Whitehead
If Play Asia are listing the console without any announcements from Nintendo of America, then this NA Metallic Blue New Nintendo 3DS XL is not likely to be officially released in the actual Americas. Similarly to the Nintendo 3DS XL Mario White Edition from a while back which was never seen in any North American stores, the console is likely exclusively distributed by Active Boeki specifically for Southeast Asian and the Middle Eastern markets. The circular emblem on the console's packaging as shown below actually proves it. It is just unfortunate the distributor does not have their own proper PR department.
Ice, Ice, baby...
Wait the sd card goes in the bottom and has no door to block out dust? Freakin gross man guess I'll stick with my 3DS classic for a while longer.
Great. Now bring the smaller one please.
Looks nice. Just waiting for a juicy enough bundle, before I consider making the "New" jump.
This one... I don't own a 3ds and now I'm throwing money at the screen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Waiting on the smaller New Nintendo 3DS
@Priceless_Spork I don't think you know what the term "bricked" means. Saying something is bricked implies that it ceases to function at all. Sure, 3DS support will dry up slowly leading into the launch of its successor, but your system will continue to function.
Got the black one but honestly its an ugly shade of blue so its whatever to me.
I wanted a red one but I'm not a fan of the 'wine colored' red that is on offer for N3DS. The bright red of my regular XL is much more appealing, and one of the reasons I haven't upgraded.
@sonicmeerkat No, that's where the game card goes now. The new 3ds uses a micro sd card, which you can only access by removing the back panel. Yes, I know that sucks.
@popro5 Well that's better than what I thought, although I'd like the game cart slot and power button on the upper edge.
Pikachu model or BUST BIG N. OOOORRRR BUSSSSSSSTTTTT!
PIKACHU! PIKACHU! PIKACHU!
That is all.
I'd accept a standard size N3DS in almost any color with any deal. Sell it with a bundle! Use it to increase sales of almost any game!
whimper
The blue one looks nice but I still want the standard 3DS. I have had more than 3 XLs and all they have done when dropped is break the screen. The smaller one all that broke on it was the hinge. I want to be able to change the cover plates damnit. The only way I will get the New XL is if they release that Happy Home Design version that Japan got.
YES I've been holding out for this color!
Yay! Blue is the best. Now, if only we had a good "new" bundle. That might make me; jus' saiyan.
i will get this if the regular sized non "xl" edition is not out by the holidays
@sonicmeerkat No that's the Game Card slot. The MicroSD goes inside the unit by taking off the back cover and inserting it inside the system.
