The 3DS has a lot of great games, both at retail and on the eShop, but it can always do with a few more additions. It seems the world of mid-tier retail releases hasn't finished yet - it was dominant in the DS era - with publisher Ravenscourt bringing some recognisable IPs to the portable in Europe.
Both set to cost €29.99 and arrive in mainland Europe on 19th June, we have Garfield Kart and Paddington: Abenteuer (Adventure) in London. Targeting a young audience, these could either be fun kids games or shameless cash-ins - we won't pass judgement yet.
Both of these are currently listed as physical retail releases on Amazon Germany - download games are far less prevalent in the country - but may pop up elsewhere as eShop-only games.
We like a bit of Garfield, in particular, but if anyone says the retail scene's looking quiet on the 3DS, you know what to use as a riposte.
Thanks to Kenneth for the heads up.
Update:
We dug up a trailer for the PC / smart device version released last year - prepare yourselves...

What have they done to you old friend?
Garfield Kart? takes a deep sniff of air
I SMELL SHOVELWARE!
All joking aside, I loved Garfield as a kid, and the box art is cute, but at that price? No thanks xD

Might be great for the kids.

GOTY 2015
Good to know I wasn't the only one with multiple posts lol.
Paddington Bear? Now that's old school.
I love Garfield. Garfield's Nightmare on the DS was a pretty good game. But this doesn't look good.
Why are these random shovelware titles newsworthy?
doesn't look that bad
Well, I see no reason to play it myself, but it looks like a decent enough kids game, no?
Also, "funiest"?
Garfield Kart doesn't look half bad, actually.
Why play Garfield Kart if you can get MK7, a cheaper and better game?
@Ayronom Well, it's probably for people (likely kids) who are Garfield fans, or who want a game that may be easier/simpler than Mario Kart.
@Krambo42 Possibly, but I'm not sure if this game will be a masterpiece.
What a low rent Mario Kart knockoff.
This is going to give Splatoon a run for its money...
@Moon - The movie just came out in January w/ a similar story so it's probably a tie in.

Garfield Kart doesn't look any worse than all the other licensed Kart games like Shrek and Madagascar. And the x-platform play was intriguing, though I'm guessing the 3DS version will only work w/ other 3DS players.
And that's 1 more game than the Wii U is getting in the US in June. (Lego Jurassic Park barely makes it June 30, but that's all I can find.)
I think that Garfield even looks better than other kart games for the 3DS (third party, and I'm looking at you Face Riders).
I've been looking for some basic karts for my daughter as mario Kart is a bit daunting for her. Already ordered Kitty and friends 3D racing...
hope it does well, but man i dont see that happening. its going to be part of a double back with a barbie game
Garfield, what have they done to you?
Cross-platform?! A must buy!
if garfield kart is in the us i might buy it if its cheap
And here I was lamenting the lack of 3rd party support for the 3DS. I was so wrong. Truly, this is it's golden age.
I miss Garfield.
...could be worse.
Glaring spelling mistake in that trailer.
Slow news day?😜
Honestly this looks like a really hilarious piece of software. I'm totally putting it on my list. It doesn't look as bad as Nintendolife is seeming to make it out. I hold high hope for games that come out in the later in a system's life - that's where the gems show.
I loved Garfield as a kid, but now I can't stand the franchise. His books hasn't been funny for years IMO.
I don't really understand the appeal in Garfield as a gaming IP. It's not like Naruto or Spider-man or anyone who can really fit in the element, this stinks of a half-baked cashgrab.
Garfield is pretty mediocre comic strip in my opinion, so i'm not even going to bother with this.
Plus, even if i did want it, i could easily get the game on my phone for free.
@Donjwolf
This is way funnier now:

Edit: Changed to a better one. They're hilariously depressing.
Maybe it is just me but I didn't think it looked all that bad. It helps that I like Garfield though.
lol are they are seriously selling tablet games for 29.99 when they cost much much less?
Let's go and play some Nascarfield, everyone.
The one you will see in multiplayer always........ALWAYS!
garfield kart?
@DiscoDriver43 : The Wii U version of Angry Birds: Star Wars is AU$69.95 in the Australian eShop. Believe it. The 3DS version, which is identical in virtually every way except for the machine that it's compatible with, is $39.95. An obscene rip-off either way.
Well, I'll have Garfield Kart when it drops to $20, and will probably have Paddington for the same price. They'll be fun for my wife and kids to play, and I liked the Garfield games on the DS (Nightmare and Tale Of Two Kitties). Hopefully it's not as bad as the Garfield game they made for Wii. Some games to actually add to the lack of 3DS games coming out for right now.
What's a riposte?
It actually looks ok.
@Spoony_Tech Mario Kart is great for kids.
I may download this on my phone, looks pretty fun
Well that Garfield game came from absolutely nowhere, but Paddington makes a modicum of sense due to the movie that came out recently. I just wish this was Pony Kart instead on 3DS, I'd pre-order that right now... Like, leave work and just go... and buy some Pringles too...Any MLP:FiM game would do... Sorry, Season 5 just started and I'm still reeling from it this morning.
When you see the obscene amount of Garfield merchandise, you realize he has always been a cash cow. Nothing new here.
That Jon looks like a monkey though.
I have mixed feelings about this
Sleeper hit. Just wait and see.
The music is just too good.
