Dying Light, an open-world title in which you take on a lot of zombies, is a recent arrival on platforms such as the PS4 and Xbox One. The critical reception to Techland's game has been relatively mixed, but it's still one of 2015's first major releases; now, an awesome Easter Egg has been spotted to show that a current-day release skipping Wii U still has a touch of Nintendo to it.
As you can see below, the developers have inserted a mini-level that recreates world 1-1 from NES classic Super Mario Bros., with small zombies in place of Goombas and a pretty accurate first-person recreation of the iconic stage.
This isn't the first current-gen PS4 / Xbox One title to have Nintendo references, of course, with another notable example being multiple Easter Eggs in PS4 exclusive inFAMOUS: Second Son.
This year represents the 30th anniversary of the landmark NES platformer, and this seems like a nice way for third-party appreciation to kick off.
Thanks to @GeriatricGamer for the heads up.

cool
Heh, that's awesome.
Nice to see non-Nintendo devs display some Mario love!
Another 3d view
Not the most original thing in the world. And Dying Light is such a bore.
@MussakkuLaden To each their own. I find it better than most zombie games
Dying Light is that odd title that is getting a lot of bad press from the critics, but most players are finding it a flawed but enjoyable experince.
I pretty much agree, have yet to beat it, up its a low 8 for me.
Well that's a nice little secret.
Dying Light probably sucks and I get the feeling Nintendolife just wants an excuse to get in on the hypetrain.
.....But I wanna play Dying Light. Halp!
It would have been a better Mario tribute if they'd put the game on the Wii U too.
@CaPPa yeah, I mean I'm fine with some console exclusives to differentiate the consoles, but it gets tiresome seeing games made for every console, but the Nintendo one. Which has been happening sense like the SNES days... (I can kinda understand the case with some like the Wii, sense it was kinda underpowered, but that happened even with the GameCube & WiiU, and they're supposedly nearly as powerful as the competition's consoles. Still, when they make a "watered-down" 3DS version, but not a WiiU version makes it even more confusing.)
Frankly, I'm mad at Sega for not bringing the NiGHTS HD remake to WiiU. (Guess the Wii sequel didn't sell well enough...)
Plus, with so many third-party games for both X-Box One, and PS4, both of those consoles are starting to look like the same console now, and if I was given the choice between them, I wouldn't know what to get.
Yay! Thanks for the mention.
Great. They're mocking us for not releasing Dying Light on Wii U! D:<
Should have at least adding some kind if music to give it some flair. It just looks like utter nonsense (which is never a bad thing)
if they liked nintendo enough to put a mario level in the game, they could have released the game on WiiU too
Has been waiting for the "Dying Light can't run on the Wii U!" but has been disappointed so far
Come on...Where's all the PS4 fanboys and PC Master Race to gloat over us? Don't make me do it myself... I don't even have a PS4 or play PC games! It would hardly be authentic.
It's a nice Easter egg but the game itself was meh at best. It's basically a DayZ clone.
Looks awful on the so-called next gen, PS4.
@JaniN83 lol are you for real?
Very cool. Nice to see you cal Ps4/Xbone current gen but I am sure PushSquare writers will continue to annoy calling it 'next gen'.
@Snugglebutt What are you talking about? ...
That's cute. Kinda boring, though, but at least they tried.
@S-Miyahon Ignorance is believing a 30 fps first person game, with PS3 level graphics is 'next gen'.
Nice!
Nice.
@S-Miyahon
Not so much that they don't matter as it is that Nintendo games tend to look visually more appealing than a lot of PS4 games while running on a less powerful system, and run much smoother on top of that.
I don't have an issue with the next gen systems though, so I don't see the need to bash it the way yuwarite did. If I had a PS4, I'd definitely play it.
@S-Miyahon My comments represent myself, not the Nintendo community, and I've bashed my fellow Nintendo fans for getting excited over Nintendo's antiquated practices in the past as well. Nintendo's first party titles (what I buy their systems for) look great on the Wii U and many even run at 60 fps (3DWorld, MK8, Smash, Splatoon), so I'm content with the Wii U's specs.
@OnionOverlord 1080p and 60 fps was the assumed standard for 'next gen', yet almost all major 3rd party titles fail to concurrently achieve both on PS4. When you contrast playing the same 3rd party games on PC but at 60 fps, it's objectively a lesser experience, thus a disappointment.
Living room PC's are on the horizon; early reviews of the Alienware Alpha are decent. Going forward, these PC's will only get better, so much so they'll make PS4/Bone seem redundant when it comes to playing 3rd party titles on.
