An enduring legacy of the DS, 3DS and Wii U in future may well be the use of their resistive touch screens for impressive drawing apps. The Art Academy franchise is front and centre in this respect, giving gamers the tools to express themselves through art or to take tentative first steps in learning how. It's a refreshingly creative way to spend time on our Nintendo systems.
The Art Academy Events community on Miiverse is used to run regular contests in which Wii U owners are invited to submit themed artworks using Art Academy: SketchPad. The results are often impressive, and the most recent competition was themed on Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, one of the cutest and most charming games on the home console.
The winners simply earn posterity, but we thought we'd share the latest batch to brighten our day. The winners range from being genuinely impressive to others that get full marks for effort, though the image of Toad smiling as he appears to drown in a stew is - to us - slightly alarming. In addition, game Director Shinya Hiratake's Mii appears to be puckering his lips to kiss the winners in his category, which is a tad bizarre.
Anyway, the full set of 20 winners is below. Enjoy!
Gold Award Winner

Silver Award Winners

Bronze Award Winners

Aw, I love Oscar's, Yatsuhashi's and Omayu's drawings. They're really good
That one with the soup is really disturbing, and the man toad.
The comic strip style one is my favourite.
How did that 2nd piece (by Marina ironically my wife's name) get a silver where there are plenty of pictures that, in a technical sense, look leaps and bounds over it? I appreciate the creativity in it. I just think some of the others were better. Nonetheless, everybody did their thing and the pics look great.
Funny thing is, I can draw in real life...but I can't draw on the game pad.
Yeah, KIRU's bronze piece is much nicer than Marina's. I also like a lot of the MariChan choice awards, though I have no idea who she is.
All great!
Of course, the missing pink mail Toad was Mummy-Me all along! I shoulda known! The majority of these are really nice to look at, along with Oscar's art, that storybook one in the Director's Choice Awards is my favourite. Wonder if Wingo will ever make another appearance again?
Those are really nice o.o
I'd hang several of these on the wall
There are some talented people out there on Miiverse! Infinitely better than anything I could do lol. I've a six year old daughter who really enjoys drawing and we all love Nintendo in my house, anyone users of Art Academy advise or recommend this for her or give me some information? I have a Wii U which she has her own NNID linked to & she has her own 2DS
Sweet stuff, all of them. I personally like Kiru's and that comic.
Those are good, wish I could draw that good
Lovely. I really like the Gold one, so cute and funny. That last Bronze picture, though.... is that Toad soup?
@MJKOP They're all great. Drawing on the Gamepad is more comfortable than on a 3DS, but the Wii U version doesn't have lessons (yet), so it depends on what you think she'll enjoy most. On the 3DS, there's New Art Academy, which is basically a complete art course, and Pokémon Art Academy, which is mostly targeted at younger children.
@Waann thank you for the reply!
All of those drawings are really impressive!
Very cool drawings. My favorites were the gold winner, first of silver, and the first MariChan Choice Award picture is really creative!
Wow, these are really good! My favorites would have to be the Comic Drawing, The 3rd from MariChan Choice Awards, and the 2nd from Bronze Award Winners . Zia's Drawing is kinda creepy though, but still kinda nice.
I think I might get a Wii U...
Dice bone and the gold ones are really good. An odd drawing for the first bronze one.
Really like the first and second one. Excellent Captain Toad inspiration.
Is it just me that is outraged that the first prize went to a piece that shows Toad jumping? HOW INACCURATE!!
Nice drawings!
