Monster Hunter

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate has finally been knocked from first place in the Japanese charts in the wake of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Sony must be fairly pleased with their success this week, but we wouldn't be at all surprised to see Monster Hunter right back up at the top next week once the hype has died down.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker makes a respectable first week of sales, pushing 30,000 physical copies which has had an effect on the Wii U console sales as well. Other titles such as Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, Yokai Watch 2, and Mario Kart 8 still manage to hold their own despite their age.

Hardware sales this week saw continued domination by the New 3DS LL (XL in the West) as well as a spike in Wii U sales that can most likely be linked to the release of Captain Toad's first fully-fledged outing. We can hope that Wii U sales will continue to rise in the coming weeks with the ever-impending Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Japanese gaming seems to have more of a focus on portability these days, but we can always hope for an exception to the rule.
