3DS eShop free-to-play title Steel Diver: Sub Wars has a major update on the way, which was originally planned for release in May. To be called version 2.0, it'll include the following new features and adjustments.
- Bonuses for consecutive victories online
- More subs available to unlock for Premium owners
- More subs available to buy in the eShop
- Point deductions for those that attack allies online
- A new multiplayer stage
- Fine-tuned submarine stats and more
The project's director, Takaya Imamura, has now posted a fresh update on Miiverse confirming what was becoming increasingly obvious — the update won't quite make it this month. Imamura-san explains that it's now targeting an early June release.
Hello, this is Takaya Imamura, the Director of Steel Diver: Sub Wars. As always, thank you so much for playing. I would like to take a moment to update you on Version 2.0, which we announced recently.
We had been aiming to release Version 2.0 in May. However, we'd now like to ask you for a little more time, in order to ensure that the finished update is as polished as possible. The current plan is to release the update in early June.
I apologise to those who have been looking forward to this release, and thank you for your patience.
Are you still enjoying Steel Diver: Sub Wars, and are you looking forward to the free update in the coming weeks?

Please understand.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eh, I kind of want to buy the full version now.
Nice update which'll come soon. I haven't played this in a while cause I keep getting my butt kicked online and keep getting mismatch teams I'll come back to this someday. I'll be paying full price for this soon, if something......friendly.....comes along.
I will only be interested into this game if I could just play with my friends online.
I kind of wish Nintendo would ditch the "Free-to-Play" games. Both this and Rusty were very underwhelming imo. They will be the first games to get deleted when I start to run out of space on my SD card.
I haven't gotten the premium version, so I guess I will wait until this update hits. I want to support these small, new IPs. Rusty got all my money as well.
Lol, I knew it.
GREAT NEWS… First I heard of another update, so an early June date is good for me. Not played for a while and kind of left this game alone after reaching level 99 and un-locking all the extra`s.
It`s kind of a shame they are giving a point deduction for shooting you`re own team member. I actually enjoyed taking out all the clan members, whatever team they were on.
I`m all for more fair game play on-line, so hope people will stop relying on team clans and start playing this game as it should be played.
What I would really like to see is some leader boards with the on-line stats.
Overall the up-date sounds like a really valid and it will sure to get me playing again once it arrives.
I've completely missed that Steel Diver would have an update so I can't say I'm disappointed.
I really wish that they would just remove friendly fire from the game or make it damage the one doing it. I'm interested in seeing the new subs and the new multiplayer stage. I'd like to know what level I'd be on if it went over Lv 99.
I have been waiting for this update but understand how delays can happen. A couple more weeks won't matter because i've got Mario Kart 8 to keep me happy
@cookiex You took the words right out of my keyboard.
@Zach777 whatever
@Zach777 dang, beat me to the punch!
Why are they refusing to allow friend matches? Isn't that the glaringly obvious omission here? What gives, Imamura?
At least they're working on an update!
@WYLD-WOO What's your name in the game? I assume you mostly play Regional?
I second everything @Noonch said. Making friendly fire damage your own sub would instantly remove the team-killing issue. Also, removing the Level 99 cap would be nice. And of course, friend matches/communities. Such a no-brainer addition.
I can only hope the update was delayed to add some of the suggestions people gave after the initial update announcement was made.
@Klimbatize
He's English, friends with Pete. We won't see him in regional
How about something that fixes connection problems? It takes forever to find a stable game, and when I do, the next game is likely to be unstable.
First I see of it, so a delay isn't bad, and it should get me back in the game. I enjoyed it, but have so much to play still...
I second everything Klimbatize said, and third everything Noonch said. What I would really like to see is more than one new multiplayer arena. I'm glad they're taking time they need to get the update out instead of rushing.
Still waiting for a sale on premium version... don't play it that much to justify full price. It's nice they deduct points for friendly fire, but as nearly everyone said they should remove it altogether. And I'd love to see more MP arenas, especially larger ones, maybe with caves or deepholes. I hate the pool and the fishtank ones, lol
Oh my goodness! Will the new ships be better than my old trusty Lv41 ship? I can't wait!!
@Klimbatize
My game tag and Mii name is WYLD-WOO for all games as is my Nintendo network ID. @Noonch is correct that I`m English. However, I do play Worldwide quite a bit. After around 10pm the regional players are too few and enjoying a competitive game can`t really be had.
Doom and gloom, the end is nigh. I hate to be so dramatic, but the Update 2.0 two play coin requirement for internet multiplayer (non-premium) could fall on its face. In other words, they are really turning the thumb screws for people to buy the game, but I guess Nintendo really researched the market and said, "Damn the torpedoes..."
We shall see...
I dont think the play coin feature is that dramatic, I for find it an interesting one. To few games use play coins. In the end this should suffice for casual play, those that are heavy into the game should buy it. The game is worth it.
