Square Enix has announced a press conference on Monday to reveal a new entry in the Dragon Quest franchise.
While we know that the company is developing Dragon Quest for 3DS, it's more likely the show will bring us our first look at the much anticipated Dragon Quest X on Nintendo Wii, a game that's been in development for years.
Later this month sees the launch of a Dragon Quest collection for Wii, containing a clip of DQX, so even if Square Enix's conference isn't Wii-related we'll still see the long-awaited game before the month is out.
You can watch the conference live via Square Enix's UStream channel. The fun kicks off at 14:00 Japan time — around 6am UK time, 1am Eastern or 10pm Pacific time.

Interesting, maybe this is my chance to get into the DQ franchise. I've never tried it before.
Awesome.
Kinda of a short notice for a press confrence but cool, :3
Ooooooh.
I assumed after all this time with no news of the game they had just been switching DQX over to 3DS instead of Wii.
Can't wait for it!
I wish they would bring that DQ Battle Road game to the states.
Looking forward to the announcement. Want both the DQ collection and X for Wii when they come out.
I never really got into this series.Is it just me, or what?
@pntjr You're not alone, boi.
YES!!!!!
Hope more info is shared on the 3DS DQ too. I'm real excited for DQX and cannot wait to see where they take it. Hope it doesn't take too long to localize but it seems like it might be the case
It might make it to the states in 2013 by that time....
I am psyced! I just hope they don't announce another crappy spin-off such as another misinturpreted Wii Dragon Quest game...DQ Swords comes to mind...
@XCWarrior
Unless you're talking about the Japanese version of the collection, you're going to be waiting a long time. Doesn't seem too likely that it'll ever be released in English.
It's out on the 15th in Japan though and contains something about DQX on the disc, so the new announcement has to be a proper announcement for it, rather than some new spin-off game as some fear. Wouldn't be surprised if the announced 3DS game IS DQX though, considering the popularity of IX on the handheld.
They're going to announceDragon Quest XI for the 3DS without any screens/videos and wait for next year when DQX comes out an include a trailer on that.
Keen for this. Swords was not great.... Hopefully DQX will just add even more awesome that is the Wii's last year
Although a 3DS DQ would be welcome, I don't see them making XI for it, just because (so far) it hasn't got the massive user base that the DS (or the Wii, I suppose) has. Then again, that seems to be changing, so who knows?
3DS DQ was already announced as another Slime game wasn't it?
I mean, that E3 list from way back then just meant Dragon Quest as a general franchise is coming to 3DS I thought and not some main entry.
3DS Dragon Quest >
I don't care for the series but the 3DS Dragon quest is probably Dragon quest rocket slime 3D which was announced earlier on in the year.
No. The Dragon Quest announced for 3DS last year was not specifically that rocket Slime spin-off. It was simply refering to the Dragon Quest series as a whole coming to 3DS (if you look very closely, it even says Dragon Quest series, and to the left, Final Fantasy series). And 3DS is pretty much getting two games from the Final Fantasy series- a rumored 4 Warriors of Light sequel that was in line with MHTriG and that rhythem game from Sega- the latter which came true.
I would hope that Dragon Quest X moves to the 3DS, after all the bells and tags on the DS a move back to consoles would be a step backwards.
Localization for a DQ game usualy takes about one year, it did for DQ8 and DQ9 but they were both worth the wait, i remember prepaying for both those gams months before NA launch and i played the hell out of both i really want DQX on wii and a compilation for the 3DS would make my year, i'm not too much into DQ spinoffs i want an original DQ game even if it is a remake (hint: DQ7 or DQ8 on 3DS OMG PLEASE)
Playing Dragon Quest X on the big screen will be truly awesome (I hope), every time a new, main DQ game comes out I always try to give it a chance but I never seem to get into it, what with the battles being really simple but the largeness of the DQ games always interests me...
I hope we get the Dragon Quest Collection because I haven't played many titles in the series.
@ brandonbwii The games on the Dragon Quest Collection are DQ I, II, & III both Famicom and Super Famicom versions. Though we never got to play the Super Famicom remakes, the Famicom ones were release in NA as Dragon Warrior I, II, & III along with Dragon Warrior IV. A third remakes of DQI, II, & III were also released for the Game Boy and Game Boy Color also under the Dragon Warrior label.
is the dragonquest collection coming stateside?
Dragonquest will probably be the Wii's last major title, with Skyward Sword being the Wii's last major title from Nintendo before the release of the Wii U. I'm surprised how long it's been since this game was announced and we haven't seen anything. It's going to be a massive hit in Japan.
If Dragon Quest X still makes it to the Wii (I beleive that development will shift to the Wii U), the Wii has a great send off in Europe. Xenoblade has juse been released and we've still got Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Skyward Sword, Pandora's Tower, The Last Story and Dragon Quest X to come.
i'm excited about a dragon quest game for the 3DS. i love that series. Dragon Quest IX rocks
Probably the 3ds will be some Dragon Quest Monster spin off... I love my Wii but i hope Dragon Quest X (or XI?) will come to 3ds.
The only DQ game I played was 8 and I liked it alot. This announcement will probably be that DQX is moving to the WiiU. Either way it probably won't be coming out in the states (sorry still bitter).
Awesome news
I don't think they'll move it on Wii u. Wii games and accessories are backwards compatible in a way that people will be buying ordinary Wii games in their new U long after the Wii is gone.
@rjejr
Considering the popularity of IX, X will definitely be released in English, there shouldn't be any doubt about that.
The Collection only seems unlikely because they're very old games that would have to be completely re-translated. I'd love to see them released (at least in Europe ) but I don't see it happening.
3 more hours!
Please be DrangonQuest X, I want it!
3 more hours!
i hope they announce DQX has moved to the 3DS (i know it's a long shot but DQIX worked so well it's the best DS game)
