Super Fantasy Zone is the last game in the Fantasy Zone series. It is quite similar to the original Fantasy Zone, which is also on VC, meaning you can fly both left and right, unlike most shoot 'em ups, there's a shop to buy upgrades, and, of course, the game is full of colourful graphics once again (This time of course even better because it's a 16-bit system). Strangely enough, the game was released in Europe originally, but the US never got it, so it'll run you 900 Wii Points instead of the usual 800 for a Genesis game.
The other import shooter today is fairly famous - Gley Lancer not only has a strange title (Which is obviously meant to be Grey Lancer) but is one of the most sought-after Mega Drive/Genesis games in existance, being released only in Japan and being very rare. It can reach high prices on eBay, but now you can download it for just 900 Wii Points. It is a relatively normal shooter, but it has a few unique traits which make it highly enjoyable to play.
We can only wonder what happened to the two TurboGrafx-16 games! There was another scheduled for July (Chase H.Q.), so maybe you'll get all three next week? Only time will tell!
On WiiWare, today you will be able to download Pirates: The Key of Dreams, released in Europe last Friday. I personally deemed it worthy of a rather mediocre 5/10, but of course it's always possible you will enjoy it more than me. Check out WiiWare World for more info.

I think I need to buy the PS3 or the Xbox 360 and try to switch over to being a Sony or Microsoft fan. Nintendo's releases for the Wii, VC, and Wiiware are all such poor and uninteresting games that I am losing interest in this company altogether. I bought this system so I could enjoy all the classics I remember when I was growing up. But when was the last time they released a nice SNES or N64 game? I sure can't remember.
I wonder how much I would be able to sell my Wii for..
I can't complain about the switch from tg-16 games being release to genesis games being release due to the fact I like to play shoot-em-ups.
This is a good week for people that like to play shoot-em-ups.
I hope this means North American gamers will getting more genesis games soon after Super Fantasy Zone and Gley Lancer.
Now lets see five games this week, NoE! Or maybe eight since you only gave us two games two weeks ago when we were expecting you to continue your new tradition of alternating VC/WiiWare weeks with five VC games on its weeks.
Yeah... I expect too much. Haha... It'll be two crappy games again.
Next monday I'll guess you get the other imports, and the week afterwards maybe too. and maybe both, NTSC/US and Pal regions get Earthbound and Super Mario RPG in the same week!
An green pigs fly over the rainbow and kill floating cats
not a bad week in my opinion, i've been waiting for a new genesis game, they just have a different vibe and i like it (possibly because i was a SNES owner)
Well, it's nice to see the Genesis get some lovin, plus both of these games are imports which is always nice. However, what happened to the TG-16 games? Maybe, we will get all 3 next week, or Hudson pushes those releases into August. They have done that before.
North99: That's entirely up to you but Nintendo first party releases have always been far apart. I'd rather wait a while for a top quality title that get a load of so-so games.
As for the VC, I'm still enjoying the games I downloaded a year ago. Why do people today play a game once and then discard it? More stuff will come for those systems, just be patient.
North99: Yeah, you should probably sell your console to someone who actually appreciates good games.
Still looks like I'm buying something today. I've been waiting to play Super Fantasy Zone for quite some time now.
Man, how many more shmups are even left out there anyway?
The you-are-the-ship shooter genre has been almost completely dead for a long time. I'm kind of surprised they're so prevalent on the VC--not that I'm complaining about that (I got quite a few myself).
Along with the three TG-16 titles, didn't Capcom say it was going to release Mega Man 1 and 2 July and August?
@Cally: Yes they did, in Japan
They are coming to the US but there's no planned time frame yet.
I Hate how Nintendo become , when was the last time they even release a SNES and a N64 game? no they rather release other consoles games that is not related to them.
Well, there went the hope that Nintendo would apologize to us after that press conference with one of their AAA titles on here. They don't sound bad, but I just got Gyrostarr, don't need another shooter.
North99, is, I have to say, not only overreacting, self-centered, juvenile, selfish, ungrateful, whiny, annoying, and completly and utterly wrong in every misinformed word of garbage he's spewn..... but he also just demonstrated that he can be offered something like, not only GOOD VC release's, but TWO of them, and still find the sheer ungratefulness and the gall to actually WHINE about being offered games for download.
Super Fantasy Zone and Gley Lancer are both great games. Wii may have some bad-third party games. But ignoring those, the Wii still has better overall original titles in far FAR greater numbers, and literally dozens and dozens of the greatest games ever made for all time already on the VC.
Just another selfish, whiny, incredibly immature person who cries like a complete baby whenever he doesn't get the one thing out of one million things that he wants right now, by pouting,sulking and throwing a hissy fit like a 2-year old in a grocery store that can't have his candy bar today.
Yes.. if he wants to throw away a great system with great games, by all means, at least he should do the right thing and sell it to someone who appreciates good games, and who doesn't whine like a 2 year old over nothing, and who also appreciates quality.
I'm sure he'll find MANY people willing to take the Wii off his hands, quickly without a second thought for at least 3 times the store value. It's completly his loss.
I would love to see someone capitalize and get themselves a Wii, by taking full advantage of North99's unbelievable ignorance.
Sounds to me, like it'd be similar to a neglected pet finding a better home then the one it currently has.
I have one already, obviously, but i'd be willing to buy his just out of spite for his foolishness. Just to make sure he doesn't have it anymore.
He clearly doesn't deserve to have it. I doubt he deserves a game system at all with this attitude, because it doesn't sound like he'll be happy with anything in the universe even if it was hand delivered to him by Jesus on a golden platter.
LunarX, you should be posting that every week.
@LunarX - Whilst I wouldn't articulate myself in quite the same way as you. I totally agree with your sentiments. All this whining when GOOD games are released is just plain stupid.
Sure shoot-em-up games might not be your cup of tea, but what is the point of whinging here about it? Just accept it and move on with your life.
Lets save the complaining for when some real turds get released. This is a decent week, cheer up people!!
Now this is what I'm talking about! Two Genesis games, Two shooters, Two imports, Two classics, and Two NOT NEO-GEO downloads. It may not be all our Christmas's at once but this is the way a VC Monday is supposed to be. This is NA's best Monday in recent memory.
I don't know why people complain about NEO GEO - give me King of Fighters '96, WindJammers and Waku Waku 7 in a single week and I'll be happy.
@ North99 comment #1 - Well the shop channel never disappointed me . Theres a whole selection of games many of them would be good many that nether you or i would really realise are really good.
None of the games i downloaded i played before which means all games i downloaded i never played before & the only 2 games available in the shop that i played before i still got the original's.
While you can sell Your Wii if you want to but i don't understand why. Even VC-Reviews posted an article about some possible reason the releases are as they are to some extent i understand it I even realised some of the problems myself.
@North99:
I can't really speak for a 360 since I don't really care for that system, despite owning 2 XBOX's back in the day, but as a PS3 and Wii owner I can at least tell you that you aren't missing much with regard to classic PlayStation games unless you already own them. Also, if you do want to own said PS1 classics, be prepared to spend an incredible amount of money for games. Popular franchises are often very expensive, and people liquidating their Playstation games know this all too well. Be prepared to spend money on par with what you may be spending now for current releases.
The PlayStation Store almost never gets updated with PS1 Classics. Right now the only game worth a purchase is Symphony of the Night. The PSStore always gets updated on Thursday's rather than Monday as you may or may not know, but it's mainly videos and other promotional content. As a result, there's almost no comparison to that of the Wii Shop Channel -- so many supported systems and there's always a weekly release for a very, very reasonable price.
Yes, not everyone is going to enjoy every single Wii Shop Channel release week, but there's really nothing to complain about. Only Nintendo is providing this kind of retro support, and you just need to be patient. Super Mario RPG being released in Japan should be some sort of indication as to what's around the corner.
Looks like a pretty good week. It's always nice to see a different system get some games. Though I'm not interested in these, I'm sure many are.
...This may be the day Nintendo is going to get a lot of calls from Customer Service!
Is next week the week we're going to get 3 VC games again?
Good releases this week though!
Awesome...
@PSWii60gamer, comment #13: The last SNES release in America was Super R-Type in March, and the last N64 one was Pokemon Puzzle League back in May. I can understand the frustration on wanting more SNES titles since there hasn't been any in four months, but doesn't a huge first-party title on the N64 mean any indication on how Nintendo manages their first party titles? Or is it because you hate Pokemon so much and would prefer to play Tetris Attack due to cosmetics alone?
Nonetheless, I was about to go all out against the first comment but most of you beat me to the punch. Like shooters or not, this is a damn good week if I say so myself - two great games on offer, not on the Neo Geo for once, and I feel that there'll be plenty of people who'll find enjoyment with either or both of these. Nice
I would like to see Nintendo start to focus on the SNES and N64 sometime, though.
@Drake or other Staff
When I went to it, the page for Gley Lancer was on wiiware-world. Anyway, it looks good and I am considering getting it.
EDIT: well, the link from wiiware-world's update article goes to it but this one goes to the real one so...
@Andrew: Seconded. The space between now and Super R-Type's release in America is beyond ridiculous, and as cool as PPL was, the N64 library is very petite in comparison to the other consoles. It's not surprising considering they're generally the chunkiest releases on offer.
@ North 99
I understand your sentiments pretty well. I won't give my opinion of the WiiWare service so far since I write reviews for WiiWare World, but there are very few releases for the VC service every week. I'm sure there are many factors that go into that besides what Nintendo wants out of it, like sorting out copyright issues. As far as the retail software library is concerned, the Wii has been plagued with Gamecube ports, PS2 ports, PSP ports and sequels and next iterations to last years/generations' games that were sequels and next iterations to last years/generations' games. Lots of the "new generation" games have been things akin to standardized tests in schools which help as many people pass as possible while ignoring the talented students. Nintendo, to quite an extent, has a strategy that I see as the "No Gamer Left Behind Act". It's not that exciting for people who can appreciate new, exciting, and good games.
I don't know, I thought Sony was going from bad to worse for the exact same reasons. Not to mention that their idea of casual gaming was a session on Singstar or Buzz! or something like that.
Even if that's the case, I think the only fresh, original "actual game" that Nintendo provided during the GameCube era was Pikmin (and quote me if I'm wrong)* so I'd say that their strategy on "pumping out established names" has been consistently there. You are right with the disappointment on them now starting to provide more "non-games" than ever now, which is why some of us seem to be looking for some good third-party games alongside the usual first/second party stuff that we associate with the big N.
[EDIT: Ok, I was wrong - I forgot about Chibi-Robo, but you get the idea o_O]
@North 99: You're not going to get any more SNES and N64 games on those consoles.
Yeah, this is a great week - I've been waiting for both of these game. Only problem now is deciding which one to download first
(probably Gley Lancer - never played it before)
@Rexy: There was also Eternal Darkness, if you count that, and Donkey Konga was a relatively original take on the music genre using already established characters.
@Adamant: Thanks concerning Eternal Darkness; for some reason it didn't show up in my search for franchises established on the GameCube, so that was appreciated.
As for Donkey Konga, that was a great and fresh take on the musical genre but as you stated, Donkey Kong was already established so it can't really be taken into consideration.
There is one more completely original game Nintendo did, and that was Odama. I actually just picked that up recently. It's pretty cool so far, but I haven't played it much yet. Nintendo, like many other developers, does pump out big names, but big names are far and few between for the BigN. Sony and Microsoft have been very fortunate with their 3rd party relations this generation, and have several titles they can speak for on other developers' behalf. Nintendo's found a few niche games from 3rd parties, but 3rd party support has not seemed to be very successful so far despite Nintendo's popularity right now. I think that many of the new consumers, like many of Nintendo's big fans, haven't been comfortable branching out and supporting other developers.
Edit-I forgot about Chibi-Robo too.
Valid point concerning the developers - sometimes they can provide great produce, and sometimes they provide bad stuff. But I thought those that are just settling into games don't pay attention to the developers but rather the subject matter of what they want to get involved in. Funnily enough, when I started videogaming I was more obsessed with playing tennis and I just looked out for those that provided that playing experience rather than who made it. I thought that similar trend would continue with the newcomers today too.
This is off-topic, but are you the same Rexy from OCR?
I've always been a big defender of the Gamecube. Though it's third-party support was very lacking, the majority of the games were high quality titles. The Wii seems to be having the opposite fate. There are lots of third-party titles, but the majority of them are shovelware with gimmicky controls. I find it ironic that while Nintendo stresses gameplay over great graphics, many of their third-parties lack both.
@Ski Deuce: Quick and easy answer... YES!
@Andrew: This is the problem - most people tend to make fine investments on the "multiple-party-games-in-one" variety packages these days. I thought it would start to come to a stop since Wii Sports is just fine enough, but as long as people keep buying them, we're being shunted further back. When I stated third-party, stuff like Zack and Wiki seems to come to mind as a good example of how it can be done, as well as Red Steel, Elebits and the like: it's all down to genre preference.
This is ridiculous. This is what we get to look foward to every week? Where is Super Mario RPG? Majora's Mask? Shining Force II? Earthbound? We've gotten almost nothing but arcade fighters and side-scrolling shooters for the past couple months. I have over 2000 Wii points that I've been sitting on since my birthday which was a month and a half ago. VC is becoming a uniform black-hole of crap. Regardless of whether or not these two titles are good, we need something REALLY good to make up for the past couple of months.
Yes, Thank you G-D(and Nintendo)! I've been waiting forever for Super Fantasy Zone, and Grey Lancer doesn't look too bad either. I just hope I can get this one soon, I may too much on my plate already
@ Rexy
Awesome. Just Awesome.
@MrDziekuje: Get ready to defend yourself, good sir.
Eh. Not for me. Plus, I don't like the idea of paying extra for imports. Prices on the Virtual Console should be set.
@Andrew: Thanks for your advice, but I've unleashed my rant and will now take my leave.
huh, the last time i remember the wii was a nintendo console. now we should be seeing NES, SNES and N64 games more than NEO GEO, TORBOGRAPIX 16, and GENNISIS games. dont get me wrong those games can be great too, but i want to see those nintendo classics. how 'bout you.
ps: yes i know i spelled torbograpix and gennisis wrong, sue me!
@Rexy
There's Geist too. You know, the rated M game by nintendo that let you played as a ghost.
I don't play many M-rated titles, so I didn't know. So many obscure Nintendo-published 'Cube titles have been brought in this thread already and I can clearly say this in regards to original titles: I stand corrected. Cheers, all!
Before everyone starts complaining about the Virtual Console, I think you should know that Nintendo is not listening. The state of the Virtual Console is a symptom of a greater problem with the Wii. My advice to everyone: Buy normal video games for the Wii and avoid the casual garbage. I think we all need to promise that we won't buy Wii Music. Who's with me?
I personally love the Gamecube, and it's still my favorite system.
Personally, I look forward to see VC's continued support of the Sega Genesis, the Turbografix-16, and other non-Nintendo Systems. These were systems I never even heard of before VC(with the exception of the Genesis, since I owned it), and now I get to rediscover the lost masterpieces that otherwise would've remained forgotten. Besides, if Ninty started pumping out great games week after week, I'd be losing my hair, since there are already more great games available on the VC than I have the time or money to play. I don't even know what I should get to accompany Super Fantasy Zone: Breath of Fire II, Shining Force, Grey Lancer, or one or two Turbografix games.
Edit: wait, it's 900 points? Well that throws a wrench in my plans, now doesn't it?
@firebrand: I'm totally with you there. There is no way I would ever buy Wii Music. There are a few Wii games still on my wishlist: Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, Medal of Honor: Heroes 2, and maybe Excitetruck.
Dont forget Battalion Wars!
If you want to count that anyway...I guess it IS part of the Wars series but it started its own subseries or something I guess.
Buy normal video games for the Wii and avoid the casual garbage. I think we all need to promise that we won't buy Wii Music. Who's with me?
No way! I want WiiMusic really badly! Its really fun watching my dad get into videogames the way he is with the Wii. Im always excited to see a new entry in the Wii Series. I swear, I must be one of the like 9 Wii core gamers who doesnt seem to have a problem with all the casual games...
Super Fantasy Zone and Glay Lancer are pretty good games, but I just suck at shooter games, so I'll wait until next week to see what VC gaming goodness is coming out.
EDIT: @Firebrand- I will buy Wii Music for the sole fact that it has F-Zero music.
@ Firebrand
No can do, it's the only time I'll be able to play the freakin' flute good(the Green Ranger made it look so easy)! Plus, it just looks fun, and it may be the only thing that'll turn my hatred of music around. That can't be a bad thing right, and neither's having fun, so you can not get it, but when I'm playing Mozart with nothing but a Wii remote and a Nunchuck, you're gonna be jealous.
As far as Wii Music is concerned, I will wait for the real music game: Elite Beat Agents 2!!!
@WarioFan63
No, I'm with ya. Wii Sports is one of my favorite Wii games, and me and my Mom really got into Wii Play. She's tried to play videogames with us before, but I think that was the only time she actually ever enjoyed it.
I have been wanting a Wii for quite some time. Finally I am going to make the plunge. I read everyones comments and agree with many. There are a ton of whiners. I would like to see VC get a few more NES, SNES, and N64 games though:
Rygar (NES)
Tiger Heli (NES)
Legendary Wings (NES)
Killer Instinct (N64)
Perfect Dark (N64)
Secret of Mana (SNES)
Also I cannot wait for Forgotten Worlds to come out. That was by far the most fun arcade games when I younger.
Well, this conversation got derailed, but both these games have already been reviewed, and it's pretty safe to say that both these games are pretty good.
Wasn't Perfect Dark a Rare game? Also, Secret of Mana will probably be remade, since it's so popular. I already understand it's been remade once already, though it wasn't very good.
These 2 look like good games, and I suppose that its good that we finally have them, considering they are import titles and everyone else has had them on the VC for some time now, which brings me to my next point: WHERE THE FRACK IS VECTORMAN!?!?!?!?!?!?
Yeah, I don't think we will ever see Perfect Dark on the VC. (or Goldeneye, for that matter...)
@MrPoo6321
You do understand that there are already two different Collections that have that, right? Just get the Sega Genesis Collection or the Sonic Gems Collection, you'll get Vectorman 2 as well.
to the first comment you should be grateful that even though we are getting crappy releases if that what some or most people think that we should be glad there is no taxs being charge for vc games unlike they do with playstation store content on the ps3. but nintendo may possibly lose a buck or two from me when i turn 18 february 12 2009 so i can set up my own account for psn and online and get a prepaid credit card. i own ds, wii, ps3 and soon to get psp but sure glad bout no tax for vc and wiiware games though. beside theres tons of great wii games coming soon
As far as Wii Music is concerned, I will wait for the real music game: Elite Beat Agents 2!!!
If the game can reference K.K. Slider Ive been holding out that they can reference EBA. Somehow. Somehow....
I would like to see Michael Jordan vs. Larry Bird 1 on 1 Basketball
...but that's just me
@Rexy
What about Donkey Kong Jungle Beat? Yes, it has Donkey Kong, but can you honestly say you've ever played a game controlled with a pair of Bongos?
Or Eternal Darkness? I haven't played that one since the Gamestop guys take that whole 'M-rated' thing seriously, but I heard it was pretty damn unique.
Somebody already beat me to Battalion Wars, I love that game!
Edit: Nevermind, I'm reading the posts in a wierd order, and I see someone already mentioned ED.
Edit again: and you said DK don't count. I'll still always count it, but what the hell...
@Blackfira
There's tax on the points to purchase VC and Wiiware games, so technically, there's tax with VC. Sure there isn't tax with the indidual games parse, but it's not like you're saving a buck or two with the Shop Channel. Just pointing that out.
@Mickeymac
Nope, Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 2) has never been remade. The original Seiken Densetsu (Released in the US as Final Fantasy Adventure because Square likes to release garbage under popular titles) was remade for the GBA as 'Sword of Mana'. It was pretty alright, actually. It didn't set the world on fire but it was a great time waster. Secret of Mana and its sequel Seiken Densetsu 3 are extremely popular and have, for some reason, been left virtually untouched. There's hope they'll be ported to the DS, though.
@el cabarto
Or lets hope it comes to VC, so it only costs us 8 or 9 bucks.
Ha NOA was showing off wii music before the Wii even released! Wow there must be soo much depth to that game being that we waited 2 years.
@North99 wow, fanboys/girls flamed U hard... Trade or sell your Wii if you are not happy with it... I ain't mad at cha. I traded at EBgames which I really hate cuz they ripuoff but I still got 350 for system, two contoller setups and a few games. and am very satisfied with my NDS (w/Elink) and PS2 now. Theres nothin wrong with not liking what everybody else likes (fanboys). Don't believe "you should be grateful even though we are getting crappy releases" . Fortunately I have never owned even a PS2 so I have the advantage of buying one for cheap and playing an expansive library of games like GodOfWar, SilentHill Collection, RE collection, FatalFrame collection, MGS collection, FinalFantasy as well as Rock band and any Wii games that are released are almost certainly from PS2 ports. I am very Greatful...
Just remember... If someone laughed you and your Wii how would you feel?
Oh ya, Fantasy Zone is alright but I have it already... @UKnowIt Good luck finding any Rare games unless its DK U R SOL. =)
@ Mickeymac: I don't know where you get your Wii Points from, but where I get them from, which is Gamestop, they actually charge me $19.99!
About these games, even though they are really good, they don't really interest me. Though they are better than the game we got from Wii Ware, which isn't a bad game either.
@Mickeymac
Hope springs eternal but then reality sets in. The modern day Square-Enix is even worse than Nintendo about going back to the well for full priced re-releases. They'll compress the games, tack on one completely irrelevant dungeon, and sell it for $5 more than average for a DS title. Modern day Square kinda makes me sick. Still if they showed up on the VC I'd invite you all over for a party. 3 player Secret of Mana without having to get a clunky SNES 3rd player adapter to work? Pure awesome.
@will: If you are so glad that you sold off your Wii, then why do still feel the need to post on a Nintendo-related site?
@Will
You used too much computer speak for me to fully understand you, but from what I gathered, you are adressing North99 without insult, and you purchased a PS2 and you're enjoying all of the great games available on the system. Good to hear!
@conral
I just checked the Playstation store, they have Crash Bandicoot: Warped and Ray Man, at this rate, they'll catch up to Microsoft and Nintendo in terms of Classic releases by the end of the Century! Can't wait! My store opens up to Japan automatically, and I gotta say, they get a dozen titles a month!
@Classicmike
I get my points with a Credit card, or from Wal-Mart or Target, and they charge me tax every time.
@el cabarto
I'll bring the chips and salsa, as well as one or more clowns, should there come for the need of such a party.
@ will: Andrew is right, stop posting on a Nintendo site if you are talking about much you are glad you sold it off. In fact, I think you are pissed off at yourself because you sold your Wii and you want other people to do what you did so you aren't mad at yourself for making a huge mistake on selling your Wii.
Also it is called a 360, not a 350.
@ Mickeymac: Well, I guess you should start buying your Wii Points card at Gamestop so you don't have to pay tax anymore.
Where in the hell is STAR PARODIER!? Damn you, Nintendo!
edit: @Mickeymac. Can we have something other than clowns? Clowns give me the creeps.
@Mr. Cheez
Yeah, I thought that was supposed to be here too, but I suppose we'll have to wait tll next week or something. Or at least I will. If it's not there, then I'll get Super Fantasy Zone and something, and if I don't have money when it does come out, then I'm out of luck.
@North99
I suggest you get a Super Nintendo, my friend. Sure it would be a lot more expensive and time-consuming to purchase it, along with the games you want, but if you're seriously that impatient, then it's you're only option.
@Mickeymac, comment #64: Same reasons as Donkey Konga concerning fresh material for the GameCube, really. Though, there's something about what I've read about the concept that makes it sound fun to play
And I'm with most - as much as I appreciate the rhythm genre, I'm not going to get involved with Wii Music, that's for sure. I'd rather break my bank shelling out on Guitar Hero 3 over making a move on something that quaint Just remember that "true" casual gaming just means playing games for the sake of having fun, not "non-games" like the Wii series and the like.
@ Mr.Cheez...I was pumped and fully ready to buy Star Parodier today, looks so good, so i'm alittle dissapointed in that aspect. I am however glad that Super Fantasy Zone has come our way, even though I havn't beat the original, I find it very hard. Maybe next week we'll get Star Parodier and some other goodness!
I just remembered something incredibly funny.
I talked to the manager of an EB Games a while back who said he thought that Nintendo was about to release some hundreds of VC titles all at once. That would be cruel--people would pass out after growing so accustomed to the drip-drop routine.
@Cally
What did you do to him that would make him tell you something like that?
@LunarX: Wow, name-calling much? I feel like I'm in middle school again.
@North99: If you want to enjoy the classics from when you were growing up, but the Wii's not doing it for you, I don't suggest the PS3 or Xbox360. You will not be getting your classics there. Try buying a second-hand SNES or N64.
@OP: It's good to be seeing all these imports. :] I was hoping we'd get a lot of these, back in the day.
Ha! im laughing at your wii... see what happens ya just proved my point. Nah don't get me wrong I just sold my wii and couldnt be happier but I still play VC on my Elink (winks) this will be one of my last weeks posting.
@Mickeymac. Sorry bout the tech talk I must just be old... but you are spot on.
@classicmike, just who is the angry one?? trust me im good, I just hate to see ppl get flamed for having an opinion. If you are so happy with your wii then comments like mine and North99 should not bother U. Peace!
As disappointed as I am with the lack of SP, and I'm obviously not the only one, at least the games we got today are good, and NOT from the NEO-GEO. I've been wanting SFZ, might get Gley Lancer.
As for all the forgotten, mediocre 1st party Gamecube games people keep bringing up on this page, let me throw another one on there: Odama.
@Mickeymac, #72. It's teh in3rnet People uz crpy gramar and also bad sp3ling all teh time!
edit: Nah. I think I'll skip GL
I am glad to see 2 games a week. I am glad to see Sega Genesis games again. Welcome back Genesis! Don't be such a stranger and bring your friend Vectorman next time.
Since we're in the Shooter mindset today, everyone should get their hands on IKARUGA for the gamecube, awesome shooter!
@Tony. Yeah, and his other friend Sonic & Knuckles would be welcome too. At one time I thought we had Vectorman, since it somehow showed up on Nintendo Power's VC section last may . apparently not. Yes, it's on several collections (one of which I own.), but it's rediculous how It's STILL not on the service.
@Mr. Cheez
I saw that at the store during my little shopping spree a few weeks ago, but I went to another store to see if they had it cheaper, and got distracted by a bunch of other games. I even went back to that store, and yet I still forgot about it until it was checkout time. I'll make sure to get it next time, I always heard it was a great game.
Also, what?
@Lylvia
I can't seem to find it for a cheap price, except on the 360, and I plan on getting it on a Dreamcast since I plan on getting one, if I'd just get a freakin' job! It does seem like an awesome shooter though.
@will
What's Elinks, I looked it up, and got a million matches, and most of them had nothing to do with video games. Is it anything like Gametap orConsole Classix?
@ fireband #47
Concerning Wii Music i'll pass, I never liked the whole music genre after learning to play several instruments (quite well), games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band seemed fake and scripted like a DVD-game. It's even more so with Wii Music because as long as you keep waggling your Wiimote you pass the song. And honestly if somebody wants to listen to an awesome Nintendo soundtrack just listen to Brawl's.
@North99 - Ok bud, go ahead and buy them Xbox 360 or PS3 but I am warning you the Xbox 360 and PS3 speaks out like this:
Xbox 360: Hi I am the Xbox 360, I have a pretty cheap price and comes with nice graphics. Most of my good games are FPS and will be enjoyed but, if you want to play online, there is going to have a fee of a membership. Playing with more enjoyment will also plee out to you to buy more accessories. Sometimes but, rarely, i'll give you guys the RED RING of Death and will have to make you refund me or repair me. Buy me cause you will have fun and I will have money!!!! (if you buy a Xbox Live © membership)(there is much more but I am trying to make this short)
PS3: Hi I am the PS3, I am much cheaper now ($399 to be perceise) and now you can buy me because I have BLUE-RAY© ! You have to buy me just because I have BLUE-RAY© because it is a steal of a deal! I have around 4-5 great games I can name and some of them are also for the XBox 360.Sometimes if you buy me, put your ear near my face and hear the addicting noise! VMMNNNNNN... Also if you liked the wii, you can have some of the motion sensor powers that the wii had! Buy me and you will not only get the best graphics, you will get the best BLUE-RAY© combo.
Well we have to hear what the wii says.
Wii: Hi I am the Wii. Like the Xbox 360, I am cheap. Sure my grpahics aren't as superior as the PS3 or XBox 360, it is still better then the previous console. MY gameplay though, is unique cause motion based actions on the wii makes some games on the wii fun for the family and for yourself. Don't want to use motion sensing though? Some games offer stand still, hard core gaming aspects like the SSBB and Mario Kart Wii.I have a lot of great games and guess what? Its a variety! And so some of you may ask, how about my storage space? Well it sucks but later, it will have solution. I am the Wii and buy me if you want to have the 'True Happiness'.
NOTE** I did not use the services like arcade, vc and PS Store.
@north 99- Just wait for a while eh? In other words the key thing in all things is paitence.
I'll agree with other people and say this is one of the better VC Mondays NA has received in quite a while. Sure they may be shmups but both are pretty good. I might get Super Fantasy Zone to try it out.
Unfortunately the only disppointment is still having to wait until Star Parodier to be released. I was really pysch on playing that game today.
It's people like North99 that justify the rest of the other countries' sentiment on this site towards us North American gamers. Are we never happy people? I think this is a good week... I personally am not interested in either game, but seriously... At least NoA varied the systems. And why are you guys whining about the TG16 games? Three weeks ago you were whining about how that's all we were gonna get!
@Firebrand. I'm not going to buy Wii Music either. I love Wii Sports, but that seems like nothing more than a (kinda cool) tech demo. If I want a music game for Wii, I'll get Guitar Hero or Major Minor's MM. And if I want good Nintendo music, I, like Phantom, will just listen to Brawl's.
Geez, and I thought the first poster was usually the lucky one. Tone it down people. We don't want anybody to die of guilt.
As for the releases, they're good, but I must admit I was hoping for Star Parodier like a bunch of you. I know this week's releases are good for shmups, but I'd rather spend my money on SP. Well, I'll keep my fingers crossed for next week.
And for random responses: I, personally, will not be getting Wii Music. While I dislike the tax they put on Wii Points Cards, I somehow came upon one that was marked 20% off (needless to say I pounced on it). Sonic Gems Collection is excellent for those who want to play games like Vectorman. And finally, I think the third party support for the Wii is getting substantially better. With games like the Conduit, de Blob, Fatal Frame, and Mad World, things are looking up.
Those are some nice couple of Megadrive games.
Sadly, we still don't have Axelay in Europe...
@North99 - Are you having a bad day? I know Ninty has slightly departed from core gaming, but chill! The Wii's lifespan is far from over! Those SNES games will be out eventually!
@Anyone that knows... Does anyone know why Pikmin 2 (used or not) seems to cost so much on ebay? It's often above $70! I just bought a used copy for $50, and it seems a little outrageous.
@#88
Hell yeah! We need IKARAGA for Wiiware! It was available on XBLA so they could do it! That would eb awesome as I was never able to snaga copy on GCN, a system I still enjoy a lot. Even more than PS2, even though PS2 had more titles.
@Clayfrd Is Pikmin2 really worth a lot? Awesome! I'm gonna sell mine!! I never liked it that much compared to #1.
I bet Mega man shows up in the next 2 months. Also I can't see any reason to sell a Wii if you have downloaded lots of games. You would lose out on so much money. Just pick up another system if you want, but I would not get rid of a Wii that has a lot of downloads.
Just remember every Zelda game can be played on the Wii. That is a system seller right there( And Majoras mask will show up one day too)
I don't see why Pikmin 2 costs so much; it was a Player's Choice title. Heck, and I love Pikmin 2! I don't see why people say it isn't as good as the first.
Edit: Almost forgot to do my usual annoying update. Last year's updates were Shining Force, that one Kirby golf game (who's name I just forgot spontaneously, darn), and Devil's Crush. I almost thought this week's releases would be better than last year's, but gosh, it doesn't seem that way now.
Somebody already beat me to Battalion Wars, I love that game!
Hell yeah! It has such a colorful cast of characters, I was so dissapointed the only reference to them in Brawl was in the Chronicle! I wouldve settled with some infantry and tank stickers even! A Trophy Herman wouldve helped...
Are we never happy people? I think this is a good week... I personally am not interested in either game, but seriously... At least NoA varied the systems.
Yeah I know exactly what youre talking about. A majority of the internet isnt even giving these games any chance simply because theyre not SMRPG or Earthbound or because their not Nintendo games. I think now that we have an awesome super quality week with (far too many) people thinking that its a steaming pile of crap, its just proof that a majority of The Internet doesnt know what it wants. Or something like that.
@Virus
Besides the whole Wii Music thing, I don't think I could agree more with your post.
@Objection_blaster
Sadly, that is not possible, but at the very least, we can hope for Radient Silvergun, and other Saturn classics.
@WarioFan63, the majority of the internet either just like to complain, or use their anonymity to act without thinking, resulting in useless complaining.
@Virus
It's Kirby's Dream Course, or something like that.
Anybody know what I should get with Super Fantasy Zone? I only get 2000 points and I don't like leftovers, and I fully open to your suggestions.
Super Fantasy Zone is a lot of fun. It's a nice change of pace from some of the more serious shooters on the VC. It's also what I consider to be the finest Fantasy Zone title ever made, and one that sadly never made it to the US the first time around.
Maybe Nintendo just used those 1 game a week releases to make us appreciate the weekly 2 we seem to be getting now. I do have to say, even though I'm only mildly interested in these titles, I'm just thrilled that it's not just a single Neo Geo game. Very odd we didn't get either of the Turbografx 16 games, though. Keep it up Nintendo, and Virtual Console should be just fine.
@Cooldued59
Can you STFU and stop being a fanboy please, its really annoying. I dont see why the hell you are complaining about having to buy specific periphals to play 360 games when the wii has about a billion more. Here is a list
Wii zapper
Wii fit board
Nunchuck
Wii wheel
Classic controller
And wii speak and the wii keyboard soon. And lets not forget the millions of unofficial dumb 3rd party periphals. By the time you buy all the periphals (and the right amount), you might as bought yourself a 360/PS3
Wii Keyboard? If there is one, its third party. I dont believe Nintendo's bothering with a first party keyboard seeing as how any USB Keyboard works with Wii.
@ ttplayer92
I find it easier just to ignore those kind of people. Most of those things are non-essential anyways, excluding the Nunchuck and classic controller, and probably I'll end up with that WiiSpeak sooner or later. You do have a good point though, that is a lot of crap you "gotta" buy for the Wii.
Wow, these threads sure get a lot longer over here than they do over at Wiiware World, huh? Sure they tend to get a little off topic; I have absolutely no idea what peripherals and Console wars have to do with Grey Lancer and Super Fantasy Zone, but it sure does make things more interesting.
Speaking of Grey Lancer, in my honest opinion, I don't think it's worth it for the import price. Sure, it's a lot cheaper than back then, and it does look pretty cool and all, but since I have a need to reduce my Wii point balance to zero every time I purchase more points, it's just not quite worth the hastle especially since it came out simultaneously with Super Fantasy Zone, another import title, one of which I had been waiting for for quite a while, plus, I haven't even purchased Alien Soldier yet, so in terms of priority, Grey Lencer is far too low to warrant an immediate purchase. I suppose if I have some spare points someday, and I'm really in the mood for a shooter, I'll get it, but definately not now.
Meh, it's all good. This gives me time to set up the old playstation, and play metal gear.
Nothing for me this week, shmups just aren't my cup of tea.
Nice. Hopefully this is the start of more Europe-only VC shmups coming to NA. Cho Aniki, Gradius II, I'm looking at you.
@North99 [+ ttplayer92]
entirely justified! [though, the EU/US classics could b more abundant]
nintendo doesn't seem very interested... their focus should b on good gameplay + service, but VC is kind of..umm..."
some Wiiware is interesting, though 1 would imagine they would not only take more 'risk'(whatever that means), but also 'nurture' dialog w/ Develpers/ect!
there's obviously NO shortage of 'value' around.. Wii shouldn't b its graveyard! lol unfortunately, they'll probly never 'get it' .
I just saw The Dark Knight and I want BATMAN for the NES...it is truly an awsome platformer that is complete
@Walleywhat. Gradius II would be nice, but NA can do without Cho Aniki.
I really wanted Star Parodier to come out today. How can they switch the 2 TG-16 for 2 Genesis games?
@North99. Since everyone else here seems to be criticizing you, I'm gonna take a shot! How can you generalize a system like that? So you find absolutely NOTHING of interest on the wii? Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Toki Tori, Zelda, Metroid Prime 3, Super Metroid, ect.? None of those interested you?
Hold on. My rant isn't done yet, in fact it's just beginning. Let me switch over to my computer. Damn wii browser.
OK I'm back. Much easier to type long comments on a computer Keyboard. So as I was saying, none of those games I mentioned, as well as many others, Don't pique your interest at all? I also love how you say "I want to play the games I played growing up", yet you still say you can't find anything. So you didn't play Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Castlevania, Sonic, or any of those games? For god sakes what DID you play man, Bubsy the Bobcat? You can't expect Nintendo to release a 5-star game EVERY week now do you? Cuz it don't work that way. Oh, and by the way, we did get an N64 game in May. does POKEMON PUZZLE LEAGUE Ring a bell? Most of the games you probably would remember are on that service already. God, there's no pleasing some people. Rant off. I could try and think of more, but I think I got my popint across.
It was smart of that guy post only that comment, not so smart to post it at the start of a Weekly Release article. Did he even know the kind of Sh&t he'd be in for. I wonder if he said that just to piss us all off and take up more server space?
Last week I posted:
"I'm guesstimating that Shining Force 2 will come out July 28 or August 4. My theory is that Shining Force 2 will be released a year after Shining Force was released. Also, I noticed that the European, U.S. and Japanese releases of Shining Force were about the same time. Considering that Shining Force 2 is coming out in Japan this July, then, maybe we will see an almost simultaneous release of Shining Force 2. Anyone think this theory is sound?"
I reposted it here because I think I posted it late enough last time that probably only a few people saw it and I have a question related to my theory. Has Shining Force 2 hit Japan's VC yet? I know it will hit this July, but I'd like to know the date because I think we will get SF 2 a week or 2 after Japan gets it. Also, what day of the week does the Japan VC update?
Yes, Japan got Shining Force II a while ago. There was an article on it here, but it was taken off to make room for new ones. I don't know exactly when it came out, but I think they got it 2 weeks ago. As for the day Japan gets new VC games, that's Friday. I think.
@Wariofan: "People aren't even giving these games a chance simply because they aren't SMRPG or Earthbound, or a Nintendo game".
I might not've repeated that comment correctly, but whatever. I put "nintendo game" in boldface to show my point. We got a Nintendo game last week, (Donkey Kong 3) and some people still complained about it. Then someone Mentioned E3, and then everyone got into tirades about how "Nintendo has jumped the shark" or "I hate Nintendo and refuse to be their fan anymore" and "Nintendo's working on some other triple A game, don't you worry", and so on and so forth. Just face it, People are always gonna find something to complain about in these articles, no matter what.
Japan gets games around 5-6 AM GMT on Tuesday. They got Shining Force II last week (With Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 and Darius Plus).
OK my info was completely wrong. Sue me.
This week was the best VC week that North America has had in awhile, I hope that we get F-zero 2 in another import week
Hmmm, with all these imports, is it possible that we may recieve the expansion packs for games like F-Zero X that only came out in Japan?
@Mr. Cheez
I only complained last week because somebody in the Chatroom at the forums said that Super Fantasy Zone had come out that day. I had been waiting quite a while for that game, so my heart lept when I heard the news. Once I saw that that information was actually wrong, I couldn't help but feel dissappointed. Thankfully, that was made up for by Ninty today, seeing as SFZ is out today, even if I was expecting Star Parodier due to more misinformation(no offense). Hopefully that disappointment next week as it was this week, but even if it isn't, I'll still be getting SFZ tomorrow(as stated, I'll be unable to purchase it this week anyways), so there's absolutely no way for me to be disappointed next week. Just thought I'd mention that.
@PHANTOM93
There was an F-Zero 2? Man, I don't even got F-Zero 1 nor X, and now there's a 2?! Good G-D I'll be busy all summer!!
@Virus
I hope so too.
@ Mickeymac
Yes, there was an F-zero 2, it is for the SNES and was only released in Japan.
How can they switch the 2 TG-16 for 2 Genesis games?
Its possible Hudson got their intel wrong somehow. Perhaps they heard Nintendo was releasing two import games this Monday so they assumed it was theirs. Hopefully this opens up the 28th for Triplegrafx Day.
@ Mr. Cheez
I think I see what youre getting at. I think people are just so desperate for getting something on NES, SNES, or N64 right now though....its a shame the majority refuses to believe theres anything worth purchasing for everything else out there....
Alsoooooo....wasn't the F-Zero 2 thing for the Sattleview? I dont think theres anything from there on Japan's service yet so...
LunarX: Whoa nelly .. slow down .. i think you are putting a litttttle too much emphesis on the importance of games and people's simple opinions of them. Maybe you need to find a life outside of nintendo games so you won't be so highly offended by such a petty comment? I'd say that your drawn-out namecalling was rather unnecessary and obnoxious; something better left for children still in grade school.
Cooldued59 - Your comments cracked me up. I like your sense of humor
Conral: Honestly? I don't have any 'attachment' to any 'classic' PS games. And there are actually very few Xbox games that interest me either. The only reason I'd really buy one would be for the Blu-Ray on the PS3. And I need to purchase a new DVD player anyhow.
I'm actually not a hardcore 20hr-a-day gamer. I am extremely casual. And I enjoy the 'collecting' aspect of the Wii as much as I enjoy playing the games. I work 10-12hr days and I fight to get a full day off. So I rarely touch my gaming systems, and if I do, I only have the memory-span to play any game for about a half an hour before I switch to doing something more productive. As far as my resources go, I have far more money than I do free time. Realistically, I would never sell my Wii - I download the games almost every week whether I like them or not, just to have them, just to hoard them. And I do have a SNES as well as a N64, although I need to buy the connector to my TV again because it has "disappeared." It is just a personal preference of course, but I have never cared much for shooters or fighters. I like platformers, puzzlers, RPGs, etc. For me, the steady release of the fighters and shooters is a disappointment. I'd love a good SNES platformer or RPG instead, and the VC has not been very generous in releasing those types of games for people like me.
Thanks to the other folks who responded to me who I didn't respond back to directly; I'd address you all one-on-one but I am dead tired and just do not have the energy to keep scrolling up and down to pull the names. Yes, I'm really that tired. My job is crazier than you could imagine.
I still hope to see a game I have an 'attachment' to released sometime this year maybe .... Yoshi's Island, Earthbound, Mario RPG, Wetrix, Earthworm Jim, Captain Chaos, Pocky and Rocky, Diddy Kong Racing, Pilot Wings 64... and I sure would love to see a break in this shooter/fighter pattern that we have been seeing for so long.
at least you guys are taking this weeks releases well, The users on IGN are pretty pissed about it. It's not liked Gley Lancer and SFZ are going to force themselves onto their Wii menus and take up precious space they reserve for games they want. They just sit on a virtual self in a virtual store; awaiting some one to buy them. Nothing more, nothing Less.
"Geez, and I thought the first poster was usually the lucky one. Tone it down people. We don't want anybody to die of guilt"
"If you are so happy with your wii then comments like mine and North99 should not bother U. Peace!"
I don't especially see North99's brooding as particularly rational either. Was he really trying to be? We'll probably never know . . .
. . . because he made ONE magic post that managed to fire up the half of the thread. Now that's impressive, folks.
I think pdrydia said it best. If someone is interested in imports and saving money on quite a few games that have run up quite a price on ebay (Harvest Moon comes to mind) then the VC is still definitely worthwhile.
I'm happy to (at least) see that some people are enjoying this weeks releases.
EDIT: North99 responded after all, before I refreshed the page. Sorry.
I think it is a pretty good week. Two good shooters. I really do not understand why all the fuss. We can download more than 200 classic games already. I have downloaded a lot of them, but there are a lot that have been released and that I haven´t (of course I´m wainting for some games too). Maybe the naysayers and the guys who are going to burn their wiis because only 2 good shooters were released have downloaded all the good games.
@MaxPlastic
Actually he is Canadian, not American. Every American has claimed this has been a good week including myself, so don't let other countries bash America this week, because North99 is from Canada.
@ WarioFan63
Yeah F-zero 2 was for the Stellaview (but I count it as a SNES game). Realistically I don't see it coming to the VC anytime soon (if at all) but it would still be awesome to have.
@North99
I didn't think we'd ever hear from you man. Sadly, the only advice I can give you is stop buying things you don't need, and start taking up Pokemon, or MMOs, since I don't think you're going to be satisfied with those methods. Don't worry, they'll come someday, you just need to learn to control your wanting, or at least satisfy it with something else.
@Kidpit: I took a look at the IGN thread... wow. That's worse than here and GameFAQs combined.
I downloaded Gley Lancer - it's amazing. The extremely cusomizable weapon system is one of the best I've seen in the genre, though it does have an irritatingly high learning curve. There are so many nice little touches here (you can manually change your speed between four levels as you play to accomodate for different situations, as an example). Definitly take this game under consideration. It's one of the best shumps I've played.
Wonder why it got rated for "Mild Suggestive Themes", though.
Ha--I've been hoping for a certain import TG16 shooter for a while (Star Parodier) and a certain Genesis game for a while (Shining Force II), but instead this week met me at the halfway point. Two import Genesis shooters for North America which individually I didn't want nearly as much as SP or SFII--but together they do make for a pretty good week, and so I'm happy for the first time since April. _ Gley Lancer and Super Fantasy Zone are both pretty good, though I definitely love Super Star Soldier, Soldier Blade, and Lords of Thunder quite a bit more than either one. SFZ does win some bonus points sheerly for its fantastic use of color, though; definitely haven't seen that anywhere else on VC as far as shooters go.
Now to just hope that Star Parodier makes next Monday. It's honestly a bit worrisome to think about how it could possibly be that they didn't know the release date for their own game... :/ Did Nintendo change its mind at the last minute, or did Nintendo spread misinformation to Hudson, or did Hudson spread misinformation through its website, or--well, you see my point. No matter what the explanation is, it probably doesn't bode well.
@ttplayer92 - Hey man! Do you really think I was being serious? I mean, I was getting the sarcastic way of each response. And you know what? I am not even close to a fan boy... I just have a gifted mind and I only spend on my game system and computer (COMBINED) for about 10 Hours a week, sometimes even 10h per 2 weeks. Also to top it off, CAN YOU TAKE A JOKE?!?!?!?! Like seriously, have you ever heard the word before? And comparing the acessories for the Xbox 360 and the Wii, you would have to be thinking something else to even compare them. The wii uses the majority of accessories to make the wii better ( I admit that they do have a lot but if you want the full experience, you need them). The Xbox 360 uses their accessories to make them stronger (they do have some experience changing accessories but the majority but about 15 of them are the make me stronger accessories and they just make things easier not a different experience). For an example of the Xbox 360: YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR A WIRELESS ADAPTER!?!?!?!
@North99 : I guess you are like me, pretty casual. But please, I say please don't try to do this again because there are a lot of people here that are sensitve and they don't like these kind of things. Sure, it wasn't even that big but about 80% of the posts are connected to you. But for the games that will never come to the wii, I would try to find another way..... AND the key ingredient to everthing as I said before is paitence. Oh yea, thanks for realizing my previous post. Ummm and to replaced sensitive, an easier chance to get flamed.
Also, there is a good looking FPS game coming out called Conduit. I hope It comes out good.
And the VC? I am satisfied cause I have a life and it is fun which makes time go really fast, which makes game releases come sooner.
Great week. Both good games.
I just hope we see something next week that isn't a SHMUP or a fighter.
But the best game on the Wii is coming out next week.
Being MLB Power Pros. 08 of course.
So I might not even care about next week.
I also think it was a good week, Genesis games before 2 or 3 long months, finally no Neo Geo and not fighting games, and once again a Monday with both games being 'import', and also its worth noting Sunsoft getting into vc (and hoping to see more gamas form them) one of the best vc Monday of this year if you ask me, along with the other import weeks, Double Dragon and Alex Kidd for MS week. But sadly not compared to the last year releases that in first place were of 3 games.
However its not all happiness, one thing I hate and I learned not to do by a REALLY hard way is lying, specially breaking promises, and I am really sad that Nintendo is doing this. First they promised us at least 10 vc games per month, promise broken, next they promise MSX games which were releases almost after a whole year, then they promise a storage sollution and a 'Big name game', both which we all know that isnt even being discussed, they let us know this by the greatest LET DOWN from Nintendo at E3 (They just tell their people to say 'We are working on it' without further detail to keep us waiting for them to throw us the bone).
AND TODAY... they even lied to their licensees (HUDSON) to the point that an officially confirmation of games were turned into a total lie without further explanation, taking down with it HUDSON's reliability and confidence even when they had nothing to do. (Nintendo setteles launch dates on vc, licensees as HUDSON just communicate what they were told, NOT before 3 days from that release, as Nintendo with its stupidity of keeping their releases in secret forced them to do so as part of the deal). YOU THINK THIS IS FUNNY NINTENDO? NO, ITS THE SADDEST LET DOWN I HAVE RECIEVED EVER !!! (and also many other guys)
I know some Neo Geo games are great classics we all love but the biggest majority including me was getting sick of this lack of variety just because Nintendo is rushing with NeoGeo titles in order to release the 16+ games collection disc that was scheduled for June, but that wont stop delaying only after enough dumbs have downloaded the vc single versions.
Anyone who post saying I am wrong must be a man working at Nintendo, who is not as honorable as I thought ...
Yeah, Nintendo is a business - sticking to a promise that is going to lose them money is stupid for them. Ten VC games a month - perhaps they realised they were using up too many games they had available to them at that current moment or some outside factor like being unable to secure a particular game or whatever. Nintendo's games may be family friendly, cute and fun - however Nintendo's business practices are anything but - cold, ruthless, placing their own profits before their customers wants even if they have to lie and go back on their word. Thats typical Nintendo.
And I must congratulate you on what an awesome life you lead if two VC games being changed to another pair unnannouned has been "THE BIGGEST LET DOWN YOU HAVE RECIEVED EVER!!!" For me, it doesn't even come close. A change like this would barely warrant a shrug if such a thing happened to us.
Oh, and since the 30th of June, America actually HAS recieved ten downloadable games - okay some of these are WiiWare games too but I don't think Nintendo seperates them like that, as far as they are concerned they've given you ten downloadable games since that date - in the month of June America has actually gotten fourteen downloadable games spread across Virtual Console and WiiWare.
shoot em ups aint my bag ladies but nevermind, would like to see some SNES or N64 games but hey i'd like to moonwalk so that aint gonna happen soon. Just a wee note on the Eu psn.. i thought nintendo let us wii owners down sometimes but sony dropped a clanger with the full movie downloads only being available in America. The EU will recive the service NEXT YEAR not good!!! So really all this bitching about nintendo is a bit unfair.
(i realise that i have been guilty of this crime in the past) just keep em coming ninty!
Let's face it, people are going to complain about any system that has games release for more than two weeks in a row. I didn't really mind seeing a steady stream of NeoGeos, but we know many others think otherwise.
I won't be buying either of this week's offerings, but it did point me in the direction of a few other possible titles. (like Lords of Thunder)
Well I think this is a rather good week. Not an excellent one by any mean, but it certainly feels like a breath of fresh air after the last few weeks. I won't download any of these (in fact I haven't downloaded since WiiWare's release week with both FF and LostWinds), but it's nice to see other consoles thant Neo Geo get some much needed attention.
In any way, these kind of weeks (OMG WTF NO SMRPG NTDO!?!? and that kind of crap) might be a good time to get back to some previous downloads and actualy finish them. Or maybe try some actual Wii games. There are those too. I for one am getting through Shining Force, then on to Phantasy Star II. All while enjoying Chocobo's Dungeon
For a few weeks I felt like Wii was becoming a letdown, but I think it'll pounce in a while. Developping games takes time, and WiiWare has only been there for a few weeks. VC is hit-and-miss, but in the span of a month or so, I think most people can get something worth their wait. Forget the "must get all those" weeks, it's a thing of the past and that's ok. I think getting a few games a week is kind of becoming engrossing, you wait and wait and when something you REALLY wanted gets released, it'll almost feel like the release day of a Wii game you were waiting for!
We'll see what next week brings. Like SuperMario, I'm hoping for anything but smhmups/fighters (please). I'm not very demanding
@Supermario & Kultist- I have a feeling we will get at least one shooter next week - Star Parodier...maybe...If Marcel is correct in his assumptions in the article and we get those three TG-16 games next week.
Mickeymac: Take up Pokemon, eh? heh .. well, I did buy the Wii Pokemon game - but I don't like the DS games you need to play to really 'collect' 'em. I want to get more 'into' Age of Conan but I need to update (ie: buy a new) my PC. I am in the process of getting that done.
Cooldued59: Fellow Canadian!! Calling some of these folks "sensitive" really seems like a gross understatement, eh? I do find it rather amusing that so many posts are connected to mine PLUS I got in post number 1. Woohoo for me I sure wasn't expecting to read so many replies when I came home... in fact I pretty much forgot altogether that I had even posted.
Well, time to head back to the grind (the real life one) -- take care and have fun gaming
I say bring shmups every week. In fact, forget all other genres and just bring shooters to the Virtual Console from now on.
yeah people should just get games on the vc and wiiware they have not gotten that they want instead of complaining about furture releases. There are tons of great wii games coming if i have to name a few
@Corbie
Um, no thanks!
Well, I've downloaded some games that recieved good ratings here that I had never played before yet I wasn't too impressed by them - Bomberman '93, Neutopia 2 and Bonk 3. Its understandable that people are wary of downloading games they never played before - although they may have been great games at the time of their releases, in many cases if you never played them before then there's no nostalgia factor.
@Cooldued59
Couldn't tell that you were sarcastic (or any other emotion) from your text (unless you say it) because I am not god.
@ Bass X0 :
Yup, that is exactly why VC is getting so much complaining lately. Because a game was great in 1986 does absolutely not mean it withheld time and that it is still great nowadays. On the other hand, true classics (those games people are asking for) pretty much did stand the test of time (go see if SMB3 is still great for instance). So while I understand some people getting annoyed with whining all over for 1 or 2 games, this is easy to understand : why would someone spend a few bucks on a game he never played before unless it is a true classic that still holds strong even today when the only thing that drives VC sales is nostalgia?
Don't get me wrong I'm sure some people might disagree, but I believe this is what is lacking to make VC what it should be : classics. Releasing 243 sub-par games in a week won't make VC better. If a game received mixed reviews or simply went under the radar when it was first released (or if it was not even released in a given region), I doubt it is worth anything more today. Quite the contrary.
One immutable fact jumps to mind here. People are never satisfied. But then again, what fun would it be if they were?
@Corbie
I with ya on that one, at least until Star Parodier and Final Soldier reach our shores.
@Bass X0
Did you read the review or watch the video along with looking at the score? Just asking.
@North99
Well, you found something at least. And I forgot to mention, thanks for explaining yourself, I thought you weren't going to show up again, and then the anger would've never ceased.
@Cooldued59
I new you were tryimg to be funny but, I didn't realize you were being sarcastic.
@Kultist
I have a feeling you're going to regret those words...
@ BlackFira
Considering most of the old games I played are either in a collection, still in my collection, or are probably never going to be released, that pretty much all I can do.
@alxtlvra
I crown thee, King of Complainers!
@Cooldued59 again
Yes, that does suck that MS makes you pay for a stupid wireless adapter, though that's probably because it was the first of the new generation, sort of like how you had to pay for a broadband adapter for the PS2. Just felt like mentioning that.
@Maxplastic
I think people realized that there are actually good games on the TG-16. Now if they'd just realize how good the Neo Geo was, people would stop complaining.
@Adamant
Nice to hear someone's enjoying that game. If I had'nt already bought a game just like it, I'd be all for it, but sadly, that's not the case.
Boy you people wrote a lot while I was gone! I thought everybody was done here!
Edit: and people are still posting...
@Kultist(again)
I'd agree with you, If I were't just playing the legend of Zelda right now. Plus, I actually didn't like SMB3, I preferred Super Mario World(nostalgia talking, I played SMW first, and I keep expecting Yoshi to come out of the blocks).
@Corbie(again!)
You're right on the money.
I think there should be a limit on the number of people you're allowed to respond to at one time.
Wow Mickeymac, you really set the record straight there!
@Dazza
I can't tell, is that an insult or a compliment?
Does it matter?
@mickeymac well, if you waited for the PS2 slim, you can get broadband free. Also it was kind of sarcastic but mostly trying to show North99 the possible solutions without getting him mad.
Here's some games I want on VC that I haven't heard people complain about: Megaman 64 and Star Fox/ Star Wing (SNES). Whatcha think?
I actually don't mind the recent state of the VC. I've gone through 13 VC games and am quite satisfied. Right now I'm looking into more GameCube games, and will use those to wait out for an Wii, Wiiware or VC games.
Forget the VC.
Next week we're getting MLB Power pros. 08!!
@timp29
Well, if I was insulted, I'd at least like to know about it.
@Objection_Blaster
Well, I was waiting for those ones too, I just don't like to complain when the things I want aren't there(usually).
@x.Supermario.x. Wow. Usually you're one of the first people to post on these articles. What took ya?
@Mickeymac. "Also, what?"
Exactly. And is there anyone else here you want to respond to? Also, you don't like SMB3 AT ALL? If so, you have no soul.
@Mike. I concur. I'm good w/o an all shooter Virtual Console. We got plenty of shooters as it is.
@Objection_Blaster. I think the reason why no one requested SF is because they are all content w/ SF 64. And the reason why no one requested Mega Man 64 is probably because no one knew it existed. I didn't anyway.
@Alxtvra. Why'd you have to mention E3, Nintendo's broken promises and all that? Now this threads gonna go on for another 100 comments. T_T
@North99. I thought that first comment would've been your first and last, after the outrage you caused (me being part of it, sorta), but you finally did respond, and It's nice to hear that you don't have a preference for any console. So you work 10-12 hours a day? ouch. No wonder you're not much of a gamer. I didn't really mean what I said, I was just being a jerk!
But next time, think about what you say, and where and when you say it.
edit: @mickeymac. Guess you did have more. God, posting on the wii browser takes FOREVER. I HAD to post on it though, since my sis took the computer.
I hate typing long messeges on this thing.
@Mr. Cheez
I dont think SMB3 was that good. The fact that you had to restart the entire world because you ran out of lives is the most dumb thing ever.
oh. You must be referring to the original game. I played it as Super Mario Advance 4, where that problem was fixed. If that world-restart issue pisses you off, just get SMA4. It's a bit more easy-going.
Edit: Wait, actually I do remember MM 64, come to think of it. It was basically Legends for the PSone, right?
@ Mr. Cheez #162
I do ALL of my posting on the Wii Browser (which is the only reason that I don't have an Avatar yet.)
@ Mr. Cheez-
I had a long night, so I slept in Monday.
Don't worry, I'll be sure to wake up bright and early next Monday.
But that's only so I can go pick up my pre-order of MLB Power pros. 08!!
@objection_blaster
megaman64 was garbage
Mickeymac: LOL .. I don't get on the PC very much most days so it takes a while to respond to things You're welcome
Mr. Cheez: Realistically? The super-non-stressful 'debates' I can stir up with a single comment is probably the most relaxing and entertaining thing I read all day. I almost feel like I should be paying some of these posters some sort of fee for the favour. It is almost midnight now, and I have not yet showered today nor turned on the TV, let alone had any time to look at a console controller. I love reading the posts here. It is great fun for me to be a part of it. A huge contrast to the life and death issues I deal with for so many hours in a day at work. I WISH I could get worked up about a gaming system or a forum comment - I truly do. But I can't - so I'll just read things from other people who can and keep dreamin
I bought Chocobo Dungeon the other day. It looks adorable and I sure wish I had time to play it. But I have to wake up for work again in six hours.... dangit .. maybe next time :/ One or two of you should game doubletime - once extra for me - then tell me how much fun you had and I'll try to visualize what that must be like
All of these smiley faces that appear automatically are pretty cute. They look like they are having a lot of fun.
@ttplayer92, comment #163; annoying as it was, you didn't have to do every single level in that entire world. Once you beat a fortress level, the castle would get blown up and you'd get a shortcut to the next section of the map should you face a game over later on - you wouldn't need to do any of the early levels all over again.
But I tell you what was annoying though - the numerous attempts to plow through World 8 on an initial playthrough, especially the numerous fleets there. I don't know if it should be labelled "challenging" or "tedious", lol.
NICE, I got flagged off once again for proving a point...
oh well...
This is my last post but the following still remains FACT:
NES- 700+ / NEOGEO- 150+ / SNES- 100+ / N64- 300+ / SEGA GENESIS- 100+ / TURBOGRPHX- 100+
So that's like 1500 games. If by miracle Nintendo decided to release JUST 2 games from any sytem every week until all games were released that would be.... like 15 years. Sounds like a long wait.... NOW let's take away all the great titles from companies Nintendo is not going to work with (RARE). I only have one thing to say and that is " Where's Conker!!" "Perfrct Dark!!" games will wii never see... =)
Nintendo has been out for 2yrs so that means we have 208 great games to choose from right?? SWEET!!!! only 13 more years to go. =(
NOA RESPONSE WAS:
Please keep in mind that there are various factors involved with releasing older game titles on the Wii's Virtual Console. We average about 10 new Virtual Console titles per month, which means that some months will see more than 10 new releases and others less than 10 new releases. I will, however, be sure to share your feedback regarding this issue to the appropriate personnel for further review.
Sincerely,
Nintendo of America Inc.
Megan Rubin
I would not be surprised if I get FLAGGED for abuse... again... but I tried... Truly, best of luck to all on owning all those classics. 'elink' is still better. =) The truth IS out there...
@ Bass XO:
THE SADDEST LET DOWN I HAVE RECIEVED EVER !!! (and also many other guys). is not because the E3 or that games, in fact I didnt even planned on buying them.
This is because the facts I already mentioned make me see Nintendo is not the worthy, reliable and honorable being I believed. Besides I personally learned not to lie in a REALLY hard way losing really worthy things for me, I am a professional enterprise mannager and for me (and many more) the values on any business are a MAJOR factor from which the enviroment (R&D), the image (MKT), and therefore the profits (PRIME OBJECTIVE) of an enterprise primarly depends. And for me, seeing Nintendo, who I really admired since I was 3 doing this, is indeed ... THE SADDEST LET DOWN I HAVE RECIEVED EVER !!!
So, in anyway you see it, Nintendo is doing WAAAY wrong.
Well, it was lovely to hear from you again Will. Tah-tah!
I was going to say something a little more constructive, but I can't remember it anymore, so I'll just have to do random responses again:
@Cooldued59
Thank you for telling me that! Battlefront 2 was my favorite PS2 game offline, but it's now 10 times better online! Now when I randomly shoot my own teammates, they shoot back! Unless I'm playing assault, then they use flamethrowers
@Mr.Cheez
Thanks for mentioning the GBA version, I'll make sure to get it as soon as I can, since the whole "restart the world when you get a game over" was what kept me from really enjoying the game(I got over the lack of Yoshi).
@AtTheDriveIn92
Even so, it was my first Mega Man game, and it's one of the few games I played back in the days that I don't still own, nor on the VC already, so it has some nostalgic value with it that guarantees a purchase from me.
@Rexy
I always thought that SMB3 was the easiest of all NES/SNES Mario games.
@AtTheDriveIn92
Megaman 64 was awesome.
I thought SMB2 was easier than that, even though it shouldn't really be counted due to us getting Doki Doki Panic with Mario's mug plastered all over it. But each to our own, I guess ^^;
Keen! Megaman 64 / Legends was an absolute stroke of genius. I HATE 3D games and even I loved 64 / Legends. Anybody who says anything bad about it probably never even played the game and should get right out of town!
@ Rexy
Yeah, SMB2 (Doki Doki) was hands down the easiest Mario game in the bunch. Although it did take me quite a while to figure out that you didn't need to jump on the veggies to catch them during the Wart fight.
@Mike. Are you kidding!? SMB3 is the toughest of the original mario games IMO (followed closely by Super Mario World). SMB2 is leagues easier.
@Kultist. Nostalgia isn't the only thing that sells VC games (though it does pay a big part in it.) People also buy VC games because there are classic titles they may have missed out on back in the day. After all, how many people here do you think played such overlooked classics as Sin & Punishment, Bonk, and Actraiser? Not many. And given that I was born in '91, and played hardly anything but Game Boy and the occaisional Playstation until I decided to get a Gamecube in 2001, I missed out on a LOT of classic games.
@Supermario. MLB power pros does look fun. Baseball games always seem like a perfect fit for the Wii.
@ Mr. Cheez
I always found myself after going threw SMB3 that I hardly broke a sweat. The original and Mario World are much tougher. I agree with Rexy that Mario 2 is pretty easy. By the way, I love the 3 Bonk games!
Was I the only one who had trouble with Super Mario Bros. 2?
@ Mike
I said North Americans... Not just Americans. Canada is part of North America
I have read some of these comments and it needs to be said: while the potential of the Wii is unquestionable from a downloadable standpoint, it is falling short due to the lack of solid third party publisher support. That takes away some of the titles we love right off the bat. Nintendo made classics all by themselves, and will eventually release them, but until then they are requiring us to have patience, which I don't have.
I really love my Wii, and appreciate the VC, and I will continue to wait each week to see what gets released, but until I get a MegaMan or a Super Mario RPG or (God forbid) a title as jaw dropping as CronoTrigger, I will keep playing my XBOX 360.
That being said you can't even compare the Wii to any other console. You really need a Wii and a 360/PS3 to get the full gaming experience. I just hope Nintendo doesn't use that as an excuse to not give gamers what they want.
No good games tonight please, Nintendo. I really can't afford them.
...just watch it be a great night just to annoy me.
alxtlvra, the way I see it is that things happen behind the scenes in Nintendo's offices that we never get to hear of. there's probably a good reason for games being delayed like this but because we're not nintendo employees, we get angry at nintendo because we don't understand whats going on.
Nintendo makes mistakes and sometimes they have to go back on their word (which probably wouldn't have been set in stone in the first place) because of circumstances that arose since they said whatever it was they said.
In terms of these replacement games, I'd imagine that the slots had been double-booked, that they felt like it wasn't as profitable releasing such games at that time or maybe sega forced nintendo's hand to put these games up instead of Hudson's.
We'll never know. An interview with the people who are in charge of deciding what games go up and when would be interesting.
