Unless you've been living under a rock you'll know that the DS Lite has finally been launched in the UK, whilst the console didn't sell out Nintendo have announced today that the portable device still sold over 200,000 units. This has pushed the entire DS sales over the 5,000,000 mark.
"The successful launch of Nintendo DS Lite and the huge success of Nintendo’s range of Touch! Generations games has secured Nintendo’s lead in the handheld market, with total sales of Nintendo DS now over 5 million in Europe."
Good news for Nintendo, although I'm a little surprised they didn't push the console harder, I don't recall seeing any TV commercials or anything, perhaps the World Cup was too much of a distraction for its marketing team
"With many more Touch! Generations games launching this year, including the just launched Big Brain Academy, Nintendo DS will continue to be the main driving force behind the expansion of the video game market this year."
Nintendo remain confident that the DS Lite will sell through out the rest of the year, look out for more colours as well.

This is very good news. I remember before the DS and PSP came out, loads of people were saying the PSP was going to anihilate the DS in sales.
Nintendo have managed to change the flow... again
"Sure the PSP was beautiful, shining, pretty and posh, whereas the DS was definitely the ugly sister. But hey, the ugly sister is better in the sack."
Was the best quote I've heard recently
the psp has nothing good coming out on it in the next 6 months and most people are coming back over to the light side now that the DS lite has hit it big time over here
