Just gonna walk into BB on release day but woo, I am looking forward to it!
LOL preorders... Wait for a sale, folks. Always wait for a sale.
Pre-ordered it the moment pre-orders went live. Super hyped for this, can't wait, less than a month to go!
This game looks greats but I think I'll just wait for a sale.
Disappointed there is no special edition for NA. Will any of these retailers ship to the US?
It looks like playasia is going to offer the special edition as an import, but the link isn't up yet.
I finally decided to get a Switch OLED but they are so hard to find it might be a while. So, I am playing my account on my daughter's Switch Lite. I do love the look of this game but I really want to play in on that OLED screen so I may wait a bit.
Since there's no special edition in the U.S., I'm waiting till there is a sale. I am eagerly looking forward to playing it but money is tight.
So glad I got out of that limited edition neediness. Standard editions are just fine for me.
I'll grab this eventually, maybe during a summer lull if there is one. Pokémon will be taking up the majority of my time this month, as I'll be completing the dex and doing shiny hunting as per usual. If I wanna move on, I still have like half of Shin Megami Tensei V to finish. Not completely sure if I'll have the time to properly fit this in between now and when Kirby drops, and Kirby absolutely takes precedence.
Not sure if I need a guide for buying a game, using Google is quite easy.
@aznable ...or at least wait for the reviews! The more they push the pre-orders, the less they want you to see reviews.
I want to make sure there's no NFT nonsense in this Square Enix effort before I go anywhere near it.
I had fun with the battles in the demo, but holy cow were there also stretches of seemingly unending dialogue boxes. I'll probably wait for a sale to pick this one up.
I get the feeling there's not gonna be much need to pre-order. I move in some pretty Nintendo heavy circles and haven't seen any hype for it
@aznable Nope, no thanks on waiting. Been stoked to play this since it got revealed months ago. Gonna be great to enjoy this on release day and all weekend
I finished "Pokemon Legends: Arceus" main story and post-game so I'll be ready for this. Day One purchase.
Already got my copy pre-ordered, for now just wrapping things up with the demo.
Preordered digitally and have a collector edition import locked in from the UK.
Can't believe they aren't offering the collector edition in NA. Just like Astral Chain, Daemon X Machina, and so on. Thankfully, Switch is region free, and I imported the collector edition for all those games. Too good to pass up.
Plus I already have Bravely Default, Bravely Second and Octopath Traveler collector editions on the shelf so this will match nicely.
@Medic_Alert Hahaha omg damn autocorrect on the phone, I'll just edit that real quick... 🤣
@aznable Strange as it may seem some of us wanna play a game when it comes out and not wait 6-12 months to save $30
@HeeHo My schedule allows me maybe 30-60 minutes of gaming a day, if I’m still awake enough to do so when I’m done with my work/family obligations. I understand if you’re looking to fill a weekend with something to do and you’re willing to pay full price to do so. I’ve learned to accept that the game will still be there later, and if I can save $20 to buy maybe 2 games instead of just one, I’ll do that. My back log includes some 100+ hour epics, so I’m booked until autumn quite frankly. I’m keen on picking this game up, but hey, it’ll be around later too.
Also preordering is a bad idea, as a customer. I did it once, with one game, and was let down. Getting my money back was possible, fortunately, but that’s often not the case. A little patience pays off.
Though who am I to say? Just some muppet faced internet guy.
@BreathingMiit damn right. I played the demo like a bunch of people, but that wasn’t enough to tell me if I wanted to pick the game up. I’ve barely played OPT, and picked that up on sale only due to the hype and a brief demo... kind of a waste of money for me.
I like the Demo so much!
@aznable Sure, don't preorder.. But how do you go about getting limited run editions because they pre-sell out before release day?
@BeefSanta "Seemingly unending dialogue boxes"? In a narrative-based JRPG? So.. You mean.. Like every other JRPG? Of course there's a ton of dialogue. That's entirely the point.
@MJA24 are you positing that there can never be "too much" dialogue? FF Tactics is in my top 3 all-time faves, and it has a fair bit of text--but it never feels particularly excessive. I found the Triangle demo excessive to the point of tedium.
If the average, wordy JRPG wants to be War and Peace, Triangle Strategy is shaping up to be Artamene ou le Grand Cyrus. (hyperbolically metaphorically speaking, natch)
@BeefSanta Cool, a detailed narrative to experience! It knows what it’s doing. It’s deep, complex world-building. I’m all for it! I genuinely can’t stand today’s generation of gamers who just rush on through everything and then complain that “it’s too short”.
I’ll take my attention-to-detail narratives, thanks. ;D
@MJA24 I don't care about limited run editions? The point is moo. Like a cow's opinion. Nobody cares. The point is moo.
@aznable I mean clearly people do care because Limited Editions sell quite quickly and collectors like collecting. Just because you don’t care, doesn’t mean everyone has the same view.
Saying “Nobody cares” is rather self-entitled, tbh. But ok. 🙃
@MJA24 I guess I don't care generally, then? ¯(ツ)/¯
@MJA24 I notice you dodged my question. I never said long, detailed narratives are bad (Xenogears is another fave of mine, for example) — what I said, very clearly I might add, is that TS has indulged the dialogue to the point of excess. You know the meaning of the word excess, right?
@BeefSanta And that’s your subjective opinion. Not objective fact. You seem to enjoy cherry-picking.
Your “excess” is not everyone’s. The entire POINT of Triangle Strategy is its dialogue and the weight of the decisions/views that characters make, which you as the player character (Serenoa) try to lean in your favour. That’s the entire point of the game.
Clearly it means it’s just not for you. Doesn’t mean it’s “excess” at all.
@MJA24 um, of course it's my opinion... that's how comment sections work: people post their opinions. yes, "i think" (there, i included that for you) this particular game's dialogue to gameplay ratio is excessively weighted toward wading through text boxes, as plenty other games somehow manage to accomplish as much character development, world-building, and exposition with less (see: FF Tactics).
i never said i dislike story and dialogue, i never said you aren't welcome to feel differently. in fact, all i did was ask a question--that you continue to ignore--and make a pretty decent literary joke.
I really hate that NoA doesn't give us fun editions like Europe gets. Between this and FE Warriors, I'm very disappointed
I’m on a buying freeze as I attempt to chip away at my backlog and play games more casually. I do plan on picking the game up sometime later this year given it reviews well as it looks like a lot of fun.
I'm actually impressed that they hold on to that name, I thought they would change it hehe.
Might just have to put this one on hold for a bit until I clear up the ol backlog. Too much to play at the moment.
Having played two demos of this game, I am still on the fence on it. I like turn based strategy games, having beaten most of the FE series but this seems to be more finicky with gobs more text and story to wade through. Its been rough to get through FE 3 houses because of all the school activity stuff. I am really itching for faster story/combat I guess. Which reminds me... Advance Wars 1 + 2 is coming sometime.
Some playing cards, some dice, a steelbook and a poster.... for £90. Yeh, hardpass from me. Will pick up the game at some point for sure, but those special edition extras are weak.
This game is great! Also the map music is stuck in my head after the demo, can't wait to play Friday! I do have a 4 day weekend to play this and Xenoblade Chronicles 1 lol.
Given that Canada got absolutely no bonuses for preordering, I'm just going to grab this game digitally off the eShop during one of many Square Enix sales that usually happen. I'm not in a rush to pick this up, especially at full price with none of the special edition collectible goodies available to anyone outside Europe yet again.
Hoping this is as good or better than Ogre Tactics on the psp! Got my copy preordered on Base.com for £42.
I'm not gonna pre-order but I will buy it if it turn out to be good.
I like the look of this, but I think waiting a week or two tactically might save me a bit on this tactical RPG.
Like 90% of all games these days.
@MrGawain - I normally do the same but this is Nintendo published. Therefore it will be a while before the price drops… this will be the first game I’ve bought new since BOTW.
@Ryu_Niiyama Yeah, back in the day preorders were almost a necessity if you wanted a copy on release day. Not the case anymore.
@tseliot preorders are still required if you buy amiibo! Lol, sigh.
Have they reduced the amount of text screens since the earlier demo? It felt a bit tiresome to read all the back stories for the secondary, tertiary and whatevary characters before making a move.
If I want to learn about the lore, scatter some signs or letters or memos around the world map a la Resident Evil and I might go and tap A to read them.
Since we're in the tactical department, how does Advance Wars compare to this? I'm much more interested in the latter.
@echoplex this game is basically ff tactics or tactics ogre. Advanced wars is only like itself. Maybe it's like fire emblem crossed with some systems from real time games like warcraft in terms of unit creation and base capture. If you want a story, advance wars is not for you. It's much more arcadey and the value comes from trying to get the highest rank and maybe creating maps and that sort of stuff while the value in so.ething like triangle strategy is the story and the replay value would be the different routes to see a different story. They're not really alike at all except being different types of strategy games.
@BeefSanta Triangle strategy is definitely light on the strategy for a strategy game. The focus is definitely the story. Having just played fata morgana I learned that I really don't mind just reading as a game, but other people don't like that as much. This game is more visual novel with a different artstyle interrupted every hour by a battle than a strategy game like fire emblem or ff tactics where there is a heavy focus on story, but because of random encounters there are ways to have more game than story and the story sections themselves are much more brief. Approaching this game as a visual novel kinda helps reframe things where the heavy text isn't as bothersome
Loving the bite in the comments section here.
Personally, I need to cut back on spending, so while I was preparing for the possibility of considering the LE for Triangle Strategy, the UK price doesn't seem worth it to me for what's in the box. I'm sure like most other niche RPGs I'll kick myself in the future for not getting involved, but I'm gonna just try holding out for a £30 price tag on the standard edition
Removed - unconstructive
@Xansies thanks for clearing that out. Advance Wars seems much more my kind of thing then!
@Xansies I don’t get what’s wrong with that a lot of ps1 titles were like that as well. Vandal hearts being one of my favorite examples.
Just pre ordered the tacticians edition since it’s shipping to the states. This is going to be a great collectors edition in a few years(not that I would sell)
Perfect timing! I'm watching the review on Nintendo Life right now and planning where to get the Tactician's Limited Edition. Shame it's not available in Australia despite Nintendo Australia usually falling into the European launch strategies.
The Tactician's Edition dropped in my mailbox today so I'm a very happy camper at the moment.
@BeefSanta: Do you complain about too much violence in an action movie too? Or perhaps you're one of those who complains about there being humour in a comedy? Get a grip on yourself.
Got my UK CE and NA standard with card Preorder.
@Mok lmao, if you read my other comments you know that's a nutso assumption as I name check several other dialogue-heavy games (that I say, again, manage to not get excessive with it). But, you know... you're right, if you like a game, that means it's automatically immune to any criticism, so please, just go enjoy the game.
Tried the demo yesterday but couldn’t get into it, not for me. Don’t like those blurry graphics and too much dialogue for my liking. Hope it does well though for those who like that kind of stuff.
Pre-ordered digitally. Looking forward to it
