Only Bear Hugger and Aran Ryan made the cut from Super Punch-Out (apparently). Bear Hugger is an okay choice, but Aran Ryan is about as generic as they come. He had no personality whatsoever in SPO!
Which SPO character(s) do you wish you could fight in the new game? Personally I think Narciss Prince (or however it was spelled) would have been a better choice, if only because he has the more interesting flaw. (And how satisfying would it be to wipe that smug look off his cel-shaded face for good?)
Masked Muscle would have been another good choice, by my watch. I thought he was a great addition to the roster.
Who would you have carried over into Punch-Out Wii?
I would have preferred Masked Muscle or Dragon Chan, but I guess they weren't used because of Flamenco and Hondo (Honda). Bear Hugger was a no brainer because the developer is Canadian. They considered the Bruiser's but ultimately scrapped the idea for some reason...
Yeah, the cheating was a real issue. I can understand not wanting to use the old guy with the stick and stuff like that...or the dumb juggler clown.
Masked Muscle, though, I thought had the RIGHT kind of cheat. It was realistic that it would happen in a boxing ring. In theory, at least, he could spit in your eye and not be noticed by the judges. That's possible, and, if it happened, you'd just have to deal with it and keep fighting.
It's a lot less likely, though, that the judges would miss an entire 3 minutes of you being kicked in the neck by Dragon Chan...
I'm surpised that Aran Ryan made it simply because this game seems like more of a marriage between Arcade Punch Out!! / Arcade Super Punch Out!! and NES Punchout...given that they had Disco Kid (Kid Quick from SPO) and Bear Hugger, also from SPO. The fact that they kept Soda Popinski instead of ARC's Vodka Drunkinski is probably a nostalgia choice...still, surprised at Aran Ryan's inclusion. He was awesome though, and fun to fight on this game.

I agree that Aaran Ryan was an odd choice (although in the new on they play up his irishness a bit more). I would've liked Narssis Prince or Dragon Chan. Glad we got Bear Hugger, though.

Gabby Jay - It would be one more fight i could win, i have not been able to beat Dragon Chan on Super Punchout, but still like the game + will be getting Wii Punchout!! on release in Europe, but don't fancy my chances much of beating the game.
I just got to Aran. He's pretty tough. He zips across the screen throwing punches, and you can only hit him right before or after he throws one. You want to hit him before because that's the only way you can get more than one punch in. He'll also occasionally taunt, giving you a star if you hit him.
I always liked Bob Charlie. He didnt do have any cheat moves like Dragon Chans kicks or Maked Muscles head butts. The only thing he had was that ridiculous spinning whirlwind punch that was so easy to dodge. Wish they would have brought him back.
