How do I get both controllers to work, and stay working, when I play a two-person shooter game? I get both controllers working, then when the game starts, controller 2 flashes all blue. Wtf
Thanks

@DonBroder I don't know if this helps. I can describe a similar issue with the Switch. And maybe the Wii and Switch share similar system design.

On the Switch, you can sync two controllers while on the Switch home screen. But then, when you boot up a game, the game has no idea you just synced two controllers before booting up. I always, or often, have to boot up the game first, then select multiplayer in the game, and then sync player 2 controller at that stage.

If you want to keep the controllers permanently synced to the Wii, open the flap on the front of the console to find the 'Sync' button and press it. Then press the 'Sync' button on the Wii Remote - it's a little red button that will either be under the battery cover or poking through a hole in the battery cover, depending on how new your controller is. Then just wait for the controller to connect. Once you've done that for both controllers you should be able to connect them to the console just by pressing any button at any time.
