@SmashFan: even if the file sizes were small enough, there's no way we'd see GC games on the VC, as they're already playable on the Wii, and Nintendo wants them to become mild collector's items where people have to hunt for the ones they want. also, Nintendo isn't going to put out a game that FORCES you to use a gamecube controller, since they no longer make them, and my gamecube games require the pressure sensitive shoulder buttons that the classic controller doesn't have.

I know Saturn is difficult to emulate but I coulda sworn that Sega CD was too, which is why they used the PC version of Sonic CD on the Sonic Gems Collection. I could be wrong though. I think it would be cool if we could get the 64DD games on the VC, I believe there are only 3 or 4.
Sega CD is easy to emulate. My low end laptop can do it with no lag at all.
Heck I am sure the Wii can do it with ease but the storage could be an issue.

I seem to recall Sega saying they will release Game Gear titles under the Master System label about a year ago back when SMS support was first announced (they also mentioned the Sega Mark III, the Master System's Japanese predecessor). Either one will probably be the next VC system.

Are you people talking about the next console's Virtual Console or the next system supported on the Virtual Console.
Actually Dreamcast seems to be a big possiblilty especially if you are trying to make codes for Data East Arcade Classics there was emu information about Dreamcast and Atari
Mega CD is easy to emulate - it used to be hard back in like 1998 because it was basically 2 consoles working together, but it's hardly taxing these days. My phone can emulate it so I'm pretty sure the Wii can.
The Saturn was a good system it would be great to see it on the VC, plus the Saturn version of Virtua Fighter 2 is much better then the Genesis version. Also like to see the Sega CD, but the only two Sega CD games I would download is Final Fight CD and Night Trap.
Much as I'd love to see Atari consoles or Intellivision on there, it seems clear that it's down to the rightholders to approach Nintendo, so I don't expect either of those to happen.
More likely would be MSX coming westward, but I think realistically that might only happen in Europe.
With regards to the comment about more systems not being desireable because the existing ones aren't well supported, I think you need to define what "well supported" means. All the Virtual Consoles have a decent number of games; just because they aren't getting weekly releases doesn't mean the games that have been released don't constitute good support!
Why should we talk about a new Virtual Console system as long as Nintendo isn't really supporting the old systems nowadays? It seems to me Nintendo is trying to bury Virtual Console silently.

The lack of releases in recent times of course has nothing to do with the fact that the supply of GOOD old games is finite and pretty much every AAA title is already out there and it's A NINTENDO CONSPIRACY TO DRIVE HARDCORE GAMERS AWAY IN FAVOUR OF TODDLERS WITH READY CASH TO SPEND.

There are still many great games out there which could be released on Virtual Console (first and third party): Super Mario World 2, Excitebike 64, Earthbound, Donkey Kong 64, Terranigma,... Considering that nine systems are supported nowadays one or two Virtual Console releases every week shouldn't be a big deal. Especially NES and SNES offer an enormous library of interesting releases for the next years.

I wouldn't call it a conspiracy but it's obvious that Nintendo changed their target audience. It's a great success for Nintendo of course but console sales don't change the fact that I have much more fun with the competitor's consoles nowadays (which wasn't the case in any console generation before). So I use my Wii only for Virtual Console and Nintendo's top first party franchises (Zelda, Metroid, Mario).
No future support of Virtual Console means more dust on my Wii. And WiiWare is by far not a decent substitute in my personal opinion.
The next Console "Virtual Console" will be the Gamecube, simply because I don't believe there will be any more systems added to the VC in the Wii's lifetime.
I think the next console will have a VC with the Gamecube, so that it will not have to be hardware backwards-compatible with the gamecube and only with the Wii. It's a way to decrease cost of making a new system.
But I fully expect a VC to be announced for the DSi (or DS2 if you believe the rumors), and it will have Gameboy, Gameboy Color right off the bat.
