Topic: The end of “mature” games on Wii… a good thing?

Either is "okay." I'm not offended by either in theory, but their application in games are almost never well done. I was joking about nudity. I've never played a game with nudity before and don't even know of any games with it.

It's not a joke if it doesn't have Mr Tongueface after it, forum rules.

Anyway, unless you ave played the whole of NMH, I wouldn't judge it. It isn't Shakespeare, it's not supposed to be. In fact many people, myself included, love it's style and use of unnecessary vulgarity. F***head!

Maybe you wouldn't judge it, but I do. I played enough of it to know that I did not want to play more of it. Can't expect people to play every game to completion just for the sake of being able to comment on it, pooface.

Whatever, Snot4brains!!

EDIT: Woah, he's morphed into a fish.

Back on topic: No More Heroes is probably the best example, with the jump to other platforms no doubt prompted by modest sales. If NMH2 doesn't sell well, I'm really doubtful the Wii will see any further sequels. Not good!

Whilst I'm surprised by the number of 15+ titles on my shelves (8) I don't seek out games due to an age rating, so to be honest I wouldn't be bothered if there were no more shooting games on the Wii (other than Ju-On and Tenchu that's what they are) since I've got enough to scratch that itch.

I will buy quality games on the Wii when they are published, if that stops happening then I'll play what I have. If all 3rd parties dropped support tomorrow (which isn't going to happen) outside of downloads, that's cool with me.

I can appreciate why some people might be concerned, but seriously what is it that you think you'd be missing out on? A 3rd No More Heroes game? A port of a sequel of a game from another platform? Wake me up when someone pulls the plug on a title that was going to come to Wii, but now won't be because they feel there's insufficient support for that endeavour. If High Voltage said they weren't publishing The Grinder for the Wii next year, that's about the only thing I can think of that would be a big disappointment to me.

No it is not a good limiting any type of game coming out on your console can never be a good thing, if there where no 'mature' games we would not of had the great mad world and the fantastic HOTD Overkill - Variety the spice of life etc etc.

I agree with that we definitely need a little bit of everything and gaming isn't without its good real-mature games e.g. Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Bio Shock, House of the Dead, God of War etc etc BUT if you notice the title of this thread I was highlighting the fake "mature" games on the Wii, the titles publishers are pumping full of blood and gore unnecessarily just because they think that's what Wii gamers want or are missing out on, in reality they aren't that mature and I and many others will be glad when companies realise they won't make any money with them and instead focus on real mature games that are actually fun. Madworld was a good game but the game play was flawed and it wasn't long or varied enough, I really liked the concept (even though I don't really like blood and gore in my games) but was disappointed that the game didn't reach its full potential.

As it seems I misread your question I now think you make a fair point.

Well I'm looking forward to Silent Hill shattered memories. I love horror movies and just I don't like many modern pg-13 horror movies I think Teen horror games wouldn't appeal to me nearly as much as something with an M rating.

Just because violence is over the top doesn't make it childish. Funny how some of you guys are calling out violent or profane games on being childish while many look at a lot of other wii games as being childish.

Also, many of the M rated games on wii are actually pretty well done for what they are. They may be somewhat niche experiences but that doesn't mean they are poorly made games with some blood and profanity thrown in. Madworld andhouse of the dead overkill are among those games that are actually well done.

The point they're trying to make is that the games are trying too hard to be adult, like a teenager who decides to drink, smoke, do drugs, swear, and use a fake ID to get into a strip club to show how adult they are. A truly adult experience is intelligently and thoughtfully crafted (which it sounds like Silent Hill Shattered Memories is, BTW), and fully embraces any adult content that is appropriate to the experience. An immature approach just adds gratuitous swearing and sexual innuendo for no real purpose necessary to the game.

If you find yourself spiritually drifting (as I was for far too many years), remember that Jesus can and will walk across the water to reach you and bring you back to shore.

That's a requisite coming of age experience. Nothing wrong with that.

Nintendo is for families, and should focus on E, E10, and T games instead of the artistic interactive movies that are the M games.

odd you should say that. Currently here the kids finishing school are going nuts (as they always do) with getting f***ed up on the beach and such. There was a story on the news about some kids deciding that it wasn't such a good idea and instead were going to New Guinea to do some charity work. Instantly people turned their nose up at these kids....

It reminded me of when I finished High School and decided, with a small group of friends, that getting f***ed up on the beach was a waste of money. So instead we stayed at home and played games and watched crap movies until 1AM for a few days and then later went to see Australia vs Pakistan at the WACA with huge hats. At the time we missed out on our "right of passage" but screw that. Maturity isn't getting f***ed up on the beach just like a mature game or movie isn't just gratuitous amounts of violence, sex and drugs. Screw rights of passage

Variety is always nice. Not everything needs to be squeaky clean and not everything has to be perverse. People all want different things. I myself always want different things. Sometimes I feel like watching movies that push the boundaries of good taste and sometimes I'd prefer something more innocent. Same thing with video games. I agree that just throwing blood in there doesn't make a bad game good however it goes along with a game like no more heroes perfect. I wouldn't mind losing big budget and well made though uncreative games like say modern warfare 2 however stuff like no more heroes or madworld I'd like to see more of on the wii.

I like creativity in any form. I don't want any limits on that creativity. Maturity is learning that there is room for a lot of different things in the world and you are not any better for preferring one to another.

this

Maturity is also about having the guts to ignore ridicule for liking what you like. Its also about being secure enough about your own identity that you don't need to follow others and "pretend" to like something that you don't. By that definition Halo isn't very mature but Pokemon probably is....

Maturity doesn't always go hand in hand with age. I know I am more mature than I was when I was 17 but I also I know 80 year olds that aren't very mature. Having said all that, this tangent might be interesting but its still a tangent. Back to the OP we go!
