For the VC. Yay or nay? At least it's more practical of happening than the Gamecube, and I know it's probably not going to happen even so. It was a console that lasted a short lifespan, started off in bad timing sandwiched between N64/PSX & GC/PS2/X-Box gens.

What games you'd like to see for it? I loved Shenmue. The Dreamcast had a sequel for it, other than X-Box later on, but the Dreamcast version never made it to NA in which Europe got. So anyway, how about it?

I never had a chance to play the Dreamcast, so if it came to the VC I'd certainly be pleased. I'd love to be able to play Virtua Tennis and Skies of Arcadia.

I'd love to play Power Stone or Jet Set Radio on the Wii, but doubt it will happen.

Would never happen. A DC game is way to big for Nintendo's download size limit. I agree Shenmue was a great game. I played that probably 200,000 hours. I have the XBOX Shenmue 2. Now I miss my long dead Dreamcast. Oh well the memories will never fade..............

Shenmue II was released in the US.

I just picked up a Dreamcast actually and have been having a blast with it. I highly doubt it'll make it to Virtual Console since the games are way too large, but hey, Chu Chu Rocket should be available on every platform ever methinks.

Yes, on X-Box. I mean the Dreamcast version that wasn't (now edited):

Due to exclusivity rights obtained by Microsoft[citation needed], the North American Dreamcast version was cancelled. Because of this, no English dub was recorded for the Dreamcast version of Shenmue II, so the European release instead featured the original Japanese audio with English, French and Spanish subtitles (although a hacked version using the English dialog lifted from the American Xbox version is available on the internet). Shenmue II incorporates three chapters of the Shenmue saga.

I remember how Ticked off I was it was not releasing on the DC in the states to be sold in store. That was the main reason I bought an XBOX so I could play 2.

Any chance we'd see the Sega Saturn on the VC?

It'll never happen. I'd be all for it (why would anyone be against it?), but until then I have the DC I got when it launched.

A new VC system would be great, but it would probably end up neglected like too many others... the Neo Geo, SMS, C64, and arcade VC libraries get less attractive every Monday.

I thought I saw a Shenmu 2 game in some store (Coconuts?) for dreamcast awhile back.

That may be true, but consider that there are more Sega Genesis games than there are for the SNES. It's not surprising if the Dreamcast as you say would be neglected of getting many, like the N64 (being a 3D console) only having 17 after all.

Sega Saturn does sound more plausible, and Sega CD.

I'd wager anything disc-based will have a hard time making it to VC. I can maybe see Sega CD make the leap down the line, but it's unlikely IMO.

A slight exaggeration on my part

I wonder what's the farthest game year anyone got to in Shenmue for the lulz.

Oh god I was too because, for what seemed like an eternity, they wouldn't confirm if it was cancelled for Europe or not. Obviously we all assumed it would be because games companies rarely translate anything into English just for here and not the US - especially a game as epic as Shenmue.

I'd seriously be gutted about this if I lived in the states. Whilst it was available for XBOX, the beauty of the Dreamcast version is you can continue your saved game into the sequel. Plus I love the first game too - it's a shame that didn't come packed on XBOX.

Anyway, yeah, there's no way we'll see Shenmue on the VC but I'd bet there's a good chance we'll see it get a disc release. So many Dreamcast games seem to be getting the Wii re-release treatment (House of the Dead 2, Sega Bass Fishing, Samba Amigo) so I wouldn't rule it out.

Other than the size issue, SEGA would go for the route that would earn more money: a disc-based port and/or remake.

Madgear is on the right track. SEGA may have some other Dreamcast ports/remakes planned. SEGA loves cashing in on old games, so we can be sure that some will come, eventually.

Yeah although many Dreamcast games were quite shallow (seeing as most of them were just arcade ports) it had a lot of high quality games. The shallowness is one of the reasons I don't play it all that much anymore though. I do find my gameplay goes through phases. Sometimes I want quick action, other times I want more epic games. The Dreamcast was definitely lacking the latter though there were a few. Overall though I can't think of another system with such a high ratio of good games. I think it's actually harder to randomly pick a bad game for Dreamcast.

It's too bad Nintendo didn't pick up SEGA at the Dreamcasts demise because despite the Dreamcast being a failure SEGA managed to carry that system with a lot of quality titles. Nintendo seems to have it in reverse. They have excellent business sense but can't seem to crank out games fast enough for the demand.

Games that would be great on VC
Powerstone
Crazy Taxi (of course)
Armada
ANY of the overhead shooters
Jet Grind Radio
Chu Chu Rocket
Toy Commander
Some of the more obscure ones I can't remember.

Obviously they wouldn't be able to emulate them but I doubt it would be that difficult to port them.
