Have you downloaded a VC game, didn't like it, and then months later tried it again and had a completely different opinion of the game? That has happened to me. A few years ago I downloaded City Connection for the NES. At that time I really didn't like it. I thought the controls were too hard to get used to and the game just wasn't very fun. Well, the other night I decided to give the game another chance. And I have to say, I'm not sure what I was thinking the first time, because I really enjoy it now. Yeah, the controls do take some getting used to (ok, a lot of getting used to), but once you do you're left with a really addicting game. I'm glad I decided to give it another shot.I'd say the review on this site is a little unfair, I would give it a 6-7, rather than a 4. So have you guys changed your opinion over a VC game?
EDIT: Ok, I will extend this thread to any game. VC, WiiWare, or anything else.
I know you asked about a VC game but kinda had that happen with Bit Trip Runner on the WiiWare. I never downloaded it but never understood what people saw in it and never thought I would like it only to try the demo and fall in love with it. I know kinda different then what you were asking but made me think of it so...
Zelda 1 and Zelda 2. Zelda 1 was too hard, and too basic at first. Once I got used to it, and learned the tricks, I really enjoyed it. Zelda 2 was a similar experience, though it never stopped being hard, I just got used to dying a lot.
Also, not a VC game, but I had an experience like that with Metroid Prime, Final Fantasy II, III, Chrono Trigger, and Mega Man 2.
Metroid Prime - It was way too scary and confusing at first. A few months later, I went back to it and really got into it. Now it's one of my favorite games ever. Then a few years later, I just can't get into it.
Final Fantasy II - First time I played it, it was boring and the main character was too whiny. Then I played it again and it was great I loved it and made a lot of progress. Then I went back to it later and found it very boring. Then I got it on the VC and loved it again.
Final Fantasy III - My opinion of this game changes every day. It's simultaneously horrible and amazing at the same time.
Chrono Trigger - The first time I played it, it was great. The second time it was Terrible, boring, easy, grindy, blah, blah, blah. The third time and from then on it was the greatest thing ever.
Mega Man 2 - At first I didn't like it. It was too hard, and too different from Mega Man 64. Then, after a few years, I gave it another go, and I loved it.
I could keep going on. My opinions of games change frequently, which is partly why I never finish them.
Battle Lode Runner. Got bored with it after 5 minutes, a few months later played for a long while and only stopped because I got stuck on an almost certainly unfair level.

No VC game takes me back to my childhood like The Legend of Zelda. I have beat it a million times but it just doesn't get old.
Well, only Ridge Racer 3D comes to my mind for now. I got a bit tired of this game and thought it would only go downhill when i last played it a week ago. I even did only play it on weekends for a while. Came back to it this weekend and am now having more fun with it than ever before. Can't remember having such an experience with any other game before.
The only game that comes to mind is... Contra 3. At first I thought yeah sure it's a pretty awesome game. A year later I sat down and actually got into it, beat it, and loved it ever since. Definitely in my top 20 favorite SNES games.

Okami - I just didn't get where I was supposed to go or what to do, plus all the sidequests. It was very daunting. Picked it up again several months later and couldn't put it down. Now I love the complexity and the immense content. It's my second-favorite game (next to PM: TTYD).
Hell yes, Super Metroid. It jumped from being a meh platformer to my favorite game ever.
Fixed and agreed. I mostly hated it just because I couldn't figure out how to morphball, though. XD
Secret of Mana was another occurrence where I hated it at first, but really grew to enjoy it.

Mega Turrican. Played it....hated it....second time....I still hated it....third time, my god why did I buy this from the recommendations from NLife?
I think I may have changed my opinion on a few VC games though...I just can't recall them....but Mega Turrican is one game I seem to hate playing but I thought it was a well regarded series (from the C64), but I guess I can't get past the locked on shooting direction and the bad platforming in the game to actually progress...
Oh, I have one...Wind Waker, I don't understand the love for LoZ, and will probably never will BUT I did like Wind Waker enough to make me think it may have its charm after all...despite never completing it.
Sega's Sonic Spinball... not really hated it , but never spent the time to really play it.. Till a few weeks ago and just trying to improve your high score it can keep you coming back for more... just an awesome game from the 16-bit era
Stark- Throw on some hot rod red...
Jarvis- Yes, that will help you keep a low profile...
