Topic: Rune Factory: Frontier Freezing Problem

I'm really sorry if there's already a RF:F thread somewhere, but I couldn't find one.

I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with the game freezing. Just this evening, my husband started playing and went out to check the mail. As soon as he tried to read a letter, the game froze and made kind of a high-pitched buzzing sound. He turned off the Wii, turned it back on and restarted the game, tried checking the mail and the same thing happened. The third time he started the game, he just avoided the mailbox and the game is fine and he's been playing for the last half hour or so - but obviously now he's not sure if he should check the mail anymore. Any thoughts? I tried Googling but didn't really find anything helpful - just some things about game freezes when checking menus. I actually haven't played Rune Factory yet myself, so I'm not really familiar with the game, but if the info is helpful, he's currently on day 1 of Winter in Year 1, and he's pretty sure he's made it this far in the game before and didn't have this issue.

Also, if it makes any difference, we've been playing our Wii a LOT more than usual. He's been racking up a lot of hours on Rune Factory, and since I'm on break I've been playing a ton of Magical Melody, so could it be something wrong with the Wii itself? We haven't had anything like this happen before, and I haven't tried any other games yet since my husband is so addicted to Rune Factory that he doesn't really want to stop to check, heh, but since I didn't find any info about game-specific bugs, I figured a problem with our console could be a possibility. Thanks in advance to anyone who has any ideas!

Try other games and see if you have the same problem, though I kinda doubt it's the Wii. Did you buy Rune Factory used? Maybe the disc is scratched and it's affecting that part of the game? Otherwise, it could be that the actual game itself is glitched. Natsume is the master of glitches, so I wouldn't put it past them to come out with a buggy game.

@feder: No, we bought the game brand new, although it has been played a lot, including recently being lent to my brother-in-law and his roommates. So as soon as I can force my husband to quit playing for the night, I'll look it over for scratches. But even though you're right that Natsume is awesome at making glitched games, I have yet to find any evidence that this particular game has a glitch...

Are you talking about the original RF:F? (as in #1 of the series?)

In that case, it's a problem your end - because I've never encountered a glitch with my copy.

I haven't had any problems with my copy yet.

I have about one week of my first Autumn to go, so if anything funky happens on day 1 of Winter i'll let you know.

pressing the minus button to quickly stroll through the menus almost always causes it to freeze for me, easy to avoid though just let each menu fully load before pressing - or + too quickly.

i just checked the mail on the first day of winter in the first year. it did take a second to load, and the wii made its loud churning loading noise, but it didn't freeze.

I am currently playing RF:F and have experienced no problems with freezing so far. I have noticed some slight skipping during the odd cutscene, but the drive on my Wii is effed so I expect that.

Have you tried a Lens Cleaner?

I have that problem all the time and it's not to do with a scratched disc or dirt... I live with the world's most meticulous computer geek in the world if there were scratches or dirt his spidey senses would have detected them hehe.

I get it randomly not in any particular area or act and it doesn't matter how long I've been playing it for whether 5 minutes or all day, in fact it happened about 5 minutes ago which is why I started looking to see if other people have this problem. My Wii freezes and makes a high pitch whistling noise and I have to either switch it off at the socket or hold down the power button. I also have a problem with the sound in my controller when playing RF:F as in it stops playing through the controller or crackles.

I'd love to know what it is because it's a brand new Wii and brand new game so to have it keep doing this is irritating, how am I supposed to manage my runeys... wink
