Topic: No more Adventure Island games for VC?

The original Adventure Island is out on the VC but 2, 3, and Super aren't out yet and it has been quite a while since 1 was released. Do you think more Adventure Island games will eventually be released for the VC?

Hudson said they were disappointed with VC sales, so no, it's almost certain not to happen, as much as I wish it otherwise. The dinosaur mounts were great. New Adventure Island is the best one anyway, so at least we got that.

If that's true, then what a shame because the sequels are vast improvements. To be thinking sales of the original correlates with sales of the sequels, well, that's just fail on their part.

Hudson would rather waste time with Calling and Rooms anyway, which we all know are much better games.

I've been wondering where they are as well. For that matter, where's the original Contra?!

Are they still making Bonk for WiiWare? I really wanna see some of their N64 and arcade games...

All Adventure Island games are brilliant, I don't know why people don't buy them. Maybe because they are underrated by the critics for being to basic or something like that. Anyway I would love more VC releases and another new one, if possible.

Is that the reason Hudson stopped putting them out, Luigi? Because the ones they released weren't selling well enough?

Yeah, it sucks that the original is the only one on there right now. IMO it's the weakest of the series. The other games really added some much-needed gameplay elements the first game was lacking in.

Also, I'd rather Super Adventure Island II than just about anything. Excellent -- and highly underrated and overlooked -- game.

I think given long enough, companies will eventually be giving us most of their games. Retro games are limited after all.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

The reason people aren't buying the games is because everyone remembers AI 2 & 3. When I first saw the review of the original on this site, I thought I'd confused it with another game. I thought, maybe it was Joe and Mac or something that I was thinking of. But no, it's just that, like nearly everyone else other than big fans of the whole series, my memories are all with the games with the dinosaurs. Without the dinosaurs, as good as the game is, it's just a platformer with a skateboard. Hard for people who don't know the series well to get excited about that.

@TwilightV...Bonk for Wiiware is still being made...according to Nintendo Power.

I agree. I didn't buy Adventure Island because I bought Wonder Boy. And I think AI 2, 3 and Super 2 were much better games regardless.
(I hadn't played the Japan-only AI4, though it seem it might be worth playing if there's not much of a language barrier. It seems like it went for more of a Metroid-style game, like SAI2. Super 1 was definitely a step backwards, considering it was released the same year as AI3.)

SAI 2 is good, it just really isn't a Super Adventure Island game. It's very different. I'm a big fan of the first Super Adventure Island just for the soundtrack. Great music through out. Oh well, I guess all we can do is keep our fingers crossed and hope Hudson eventually puts them out.

The weird thing about SAI2 is that it follows more in the vein of the Monster World series, which is kind of a "sister" series to Adventure Island, and in fact what AI originated from. I did like the gameplay, and I'm surprised how rarely it's brought up. I mean, they did a remake of the first NES game on WiiWare, but...I still want 2 and 3.

Super Adventure Island 2 is a metroidvania, just like the Japan-only Adventure Island 4. They are both very good.

Yes, more Adventure Island games for the VC!

Europe is getting Super Adventure Island II this week.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

Cool, I'll get that one whenever it finally shows up in NA. I never quite finished and I'd like to.
