Just read the revw in the latest ONM mag I recieved through the post early. It recieved a rip-roaring 96% score and is confirmed as being a brand new game and not an enhanced version of the DS game which was good to read.

Before you suggest it ONM tend NOT to be that biased toward Nintendo games as we've found in the case of Mario Party 8 and Super Paper Mario reviews

Wow, it confirmed what we already knew from the game's initial announcement? I'm so excited.

Why did you ever think it was a DS remake? All the levels shown have been brand new, not to mention the whole four-player thing.

I can't imagine an "Official" Nintendo Magazine being hard on a Mario platformerer, Nintendo's trademark game. The other games they've supposedly been hard on are spin-offs, so that's not quite as shocking. But I'm not familiar with the magazine, so I don't really know. Just my thoughts.

Some people had their doubts about this game

I see that, but the question was why. There was absolutely no reason to doubt as it's been obvious from the start that it was a brand new game. You'd only have to look at one of a bazillion gillion videos to see otherwise. Just curious.

Super Mario World = Super Mario Bros. 4
New Super Mario Bros. = Super Mario Bros. 5
New Super Mario Bros. Wii = Super Mario Bros. 6
that's how I see it anyway =P
(cuz 64, Sunshine and Galaxy are not 2P Bros. games)

It's a me, Luigi!

Some people just like to jump to conclusions when they first see games like this. Plus it has "New Super Mario Bros." in the title. I thought it was crazy myself, but what can we do?

Interesting. Any juicy details to emerge in review? Like is it best played single or multi? Are you limited to the two bros. and those stupid Toads for multiplay? Etc., ...

Agreed. It's not so important what game it is as long as the levels are different.

Nah, ONM tend to be pretty fair on review scores, I've been reading it since 2004 (admittedly it changed hands to a new team and style a couple of years ago, but it remains fair). There scores are comparable with other gaming mags too - I tend to read the unofficial NGamer mag a lot too and the scores mostly match, there abouts.

76 stages
Koopa Kids have kidnapped Peach
Lot of Super Mario Bros 3 vibes (eg. map screens, enemies etc)
Spin jump move and Yoshi (Super Mario World nod)
Power up and 1 up noises in the remote
Spinning flowers
Peguin suit = SMBros 3 frog suit
Amazing attention to detail. Looks & sounds increadible
Fair amount of Yoshi, but not quite as much as as they/we would have liked
Four player multiplayer
Fourth player is just another Toad
Players bump into eachother not pass through eachother
Can pause and add or remove players at anytime
Free play, coin battle, main adventure modes
Co-op
Starts easy ends hard as nails
One player play is not diminised by multiplayer element to game.
Logs how many times you continue
Getting all three star coins in each level gives you more of a decent surprise than the ds game (not revealed in revw)
You don't need multiplayer to play to get all three star coins. You can get them as a single player.
Super guide mode after you die 8 times in a stage. Hint movies as well. Luigi helps you. Optional.
Plenty of replay value
Should appeal to hardcore and casual
All time great, essentil purchase.
96% ONM Gold Award.

Well mate, I wouldn't subscribe to them if that were the case. If anything, they want MORE polish out of Ninty games and are slightly more sympathetic to the less popular or smaller developers.

True but you forget that Super Mario Bros: The lost Levels in my opinion counts as 5 and 2 in Japan while our Super Mario Bros 2 (a.k.a Doki Doki panic/ Super Mario Bros U.S.A (Jap version) counts as 5 in that country which we count as 2

So with that being said New Super Mario Bros = Super Mario Bros 6
And new Super Mario Bros Wii = New Super Mario Bros 2 = Super Mario Bros 7

Yeah I've actually found them to be pretty harsh, actually. But that's a great score; not that a bad score would've deterred me from buying the game.

Here's how I see it:
Super Mario World= SMB4
Super Mario 64 = Super Mario World 3
Super Mario Sunshine = Super Mario 64 2
Super Mario Galaxy = Super Mario 64 3
Super Mario Galaxy 2 = Super Mario 64 4
Paper Mario = Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars 2
Paper Mario: Thous. Year Door = Super Mario RPG: " " " 3

Mario and Luigi is a separate, unrelated RPG series; and Super Paper Mario is a separate spin-off of the Paper Mario series, and not part of the SMRPG series. Finally, I consider New SMB the SMB series's equivalent of Metroid: Zero Mission or Donkey Kong '94, and naturally, NSMB Wii is NSMB 2.

How about keeping the titles the same? That's even less confusing!

SMRPG is no more connected to PM than M&L are to either. It's unfair to group two great games with a poor one, based on nothing.

Which means...nothing?

Really? You thought it was a remake? Why the heck would they make a remake so soon? It's brand new.
