Has anyone bought Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (Wii version)?

If so, was it what you expected?

I've not got it.... but it doesn't look too hot.

Remember, multiplat games on Wii usually suffer. No, scratch that, they always suffer.

No animals were harmed in the making of this post.

Aha! I was gonna post this exact question. I nearly bought it today but managed to restrain myself. All of the NFS' have sucked on Wii, except for the one that was built specifically for it (Nitro, which was awesome). I need impressions please!!

@NL: Is this gonna be reviewed by your fine selves?

@Machu My fine American colleague Mr Jon Wahlgren is working on a review even as we speak.

"What we expected?" You mean garbage? Can't say, but have about as much faith in it as I do UbiSoft's "core" Wii titles at this point. I looked at the back of the box and I believe it does have exclusive split-screen and Nitro-esque power-ups. However since the Wii has turned out not to be as profitable as EA once thought, EA has mostly churned out trash for the system with zero resources behind them.

It is worth noting though, that the Wii version is developed by Exient, the same developer that created most of the quality sports and racing titles for EA on the DS. This is likely their first Wii game.

EDIT: Just watched video and it definitely LOOKS like a DS game. It seems to have found a real ugly middle ground between realism and NFS: Nitro visual style.

@brandonbwii: Exient did NFS: Undercover for the Wii previously and I don't think they've been doing the DS versions for a year or two now... Nitro DS was made by Firebrand IIRC.

That doesn't look good. Hoped it would be good because I love Hot Pursuit. Maybe I should just buy the Hot Pursuit for the GameCube.

The GC versions of NFS Hot Pursuit 2 and NFS Most Wanted are both quite good if you want some cop-evading action. They're quite cheap now as well.

I think I will do that. I just can't understand how bad it looks. Take a look at the following video. That's of the GameCube version of Hot Pursuit 2.

How could they this up? And the movement of the car in the new game is terrible and looks very unrealistic.

I'm normally an easy going kind of chap, but this game is making me angry. I'm surprised how much it has affected me.

It's upset me for two reasons:

1. The Trades Description Act?

EA has led us to believe that the Wii game would be similar to the HD versions. Of course, I'm not foolish enough to think that it would be exactly the same - but I thought (in the absence of any contadictorary information from EA) that it would be similar in the way that the COD titles on the Wii are similar to the HD versions - ie reduced graphics and missing a few minor bits of content.)

The HD versions and the Wii version share the same name and box art. Is it unreasonable to assume that they would at least be similar? (Last year the HD games and the Wii versions were very different but were marketed and named differently , "Shift" and "Nitro".

I thought at the very least that the Wii version would have the following in common with the HD versions:

Online play
Autolog system
Set in Seacrest County
A cop career option

These are the major selling points of the game and have been promoted by EA and major retailers as being part of the Wii version. None of them are present in the Wii game. The Wii game is entirely different. Go to Amazon.com and read the description for yourself. Compare it to the description on Amazon UK or any UK retailer's site.

At the time of writing, all the retailers in the UK (Amazon, Game, Play, Asda, HMV, etc) are still putting details of the HD versions on the page describing the Wii version. I contacted Amazon UK about five days ago and told them that the game was totally different and that the US site (Amazon.com) had the correct details for the Wii game. They replied:

"Generally all the information we have about the items offered on our website is displayed on the product information pages, or is accessible from these pages....The information currently displayed on the product's information page is all that has passed on to us from the manufacturer."

At the time of writing, Amazon UK is still displaying a description of the HD game on the Wii page - even though the US site has the correct information.

We have been lied to by the publisher and the retailers.

2. The Freedom of the Press?

The press has not picked this up and warned us. Why have sites like Nintendolife, Gonintendo, etc, who usually like to bombard us with all the latest trivia they can get their hands on, not warned potential buyers of this game that the Wii version is not the one they they have been told about?

I accept that the press and online media can only publish the information it has, In this case, they were initially (in my opinion) misled by EA. However, as soon as other information comes to light, the press has a responsibilty to investigate and report that information if it is accurate.

I contacted Nintendolife earlier in the week (with links to both the Amazon UK and Amazon US pages) and was told that they were working on a review. That review still (as of writing) has not been published - fair enough, these things take time to do properly - but there has been no post warning us of the differences in the Wii version.

Just a couple of lines would have sufficed, Something like "A reader points out that the Wii version of NFS:HP may not be what we were expecting. Check out Amazon.com - or better still wait for our review, due any day now."

I am not quibbling about the quality of the Wii version. It's not an inferior version of the HD game. That I could have understood and forgiven. I'm angry that it's a totally different game - and no-one has told us. It could be a great game - I don't know, I haven't played it - but it isn't what was promised. (Actually, according to some youtube vids and the one review on metacritic, it's not good, but that's not the point.)

Did you buy the game based on the retailer's information, the advertising, or because you trusted your favourite website? (In it's favour, Nintendolife seem to have removed the erroneous information it previously posted and replaced it with screenshots of the Wii version and a promise that a "Description will appear here shortly...".

My respect for EA, Amazon UK, Nintendolife (and a whole bunch of retailers and Wii-centric websites) has plummeted.

OK - it's only a game. In the great scheme of life, it's hardly important. But I don't like being lied to, misinformed and ignored.

Perhaps it's just me!

Well I think the 3/10 review of NintendoLife is all the info you needed to stay away from the game .

I agree, Sneaker13, that the review is enough to warn people about the game, but the point of my post was that EA and the retailers misled us about the game, and the press didn't pick up on this and warn us in good time.

The review didn't appear until after the release date of the game (which is normal) so many people could have bought the game on release day or pre-ordered it based on false information.

I told Nintendolife about the problem several days before the release date. If Nintendolife had passed that information on to its readership, readers who had pre-ordered the game, or planned to buy it on the release date, would have been forewarned.

It's a good review - but it's too little, too late.

For the record - Amazon UK still has the wrong details on its Wii page. I can't be bothered to check any other retailers' sites because the whole thing depresses me.

I would also point out that I did warn people about this issue in these forums as soon as I found out (on Saturday 13th November).
