Topic: Do Wii fitness games provide real exercise results?

I want to exercise more but a lot of times I find it really hard for me to get out of my home and drive to the gym. Do the Wii fitness games provide exercises where you can potentially get the similar type of results from real exercises?

I'd try EA Sports active 2, it comes w/a heart monitor, but its around 80 dollars thogh but you can find it at sams club for 77 dollars. Wii Fit Plus ftw!!!

I'm lazy, and it motivated me to exercise in a way I can handle (ie, not going to the gym). It's great for just stretching out with Yoga, but can also be quite grueling if you go h-core on the Muscle exercises. Minigames are fun too (chicken-flapping is my fave).

My sister in law has EA active, and if you ask me it's a bit too intensive for someone who is just looking for a lil help in getting up off of the sofa.

I really like Golds Gym Cardio Boxing. I used it regularly for a month and lost weight... but, I also used some portion control and ate less processed foods. A game isn't going to do it all, but it is a good way to help motivate.

They're.....O.K. Many of them aren't going to give you a gym style workout, but any exercise is good exercise. As others have said, you may want to go for EA Sports Active. I have serious problems getting my heart rate up with Wii Fit, but I hear the EA title does a better job.

Yeah i agree as others have said its a good starter workout, but as time goes on for an exercise program i would move on to something else or add something else to the routine.

I had EA Sports Active but just wasn't motivated to play it. I wasn't really having fun and thus saved my unfun working out for the gym. But if you're willing to put in the time and effort, it is a very good fitness tool.

Wii Fit Plus is definetely not as intense but is a lot more fun IMO. Also, though it's technically not a workout game, I got Just Dance 2 recently and it's a blast! It certainly won't give you a gym level workout but it gets you up and moving and some of the stuff can be pretty crazy, lol.

the first wii active game is a good start.. it is cheaper compared to the second one 50 dollars... me and my wife used it when were badly out of shape and it actually improved our fitness.. very good product...

Feel free to add

As much as any exercise is good exercise, you really should be doing more than playing video games. Even going for walks is good. Walk to your gym and back. Then run, then sign up.

Wii Fit is not Hardcord for me, but it dose help those who need it.
But it always fun to beat The Trainner at 100 Push-ups

But really, if you want to lose some weight, running and sit ups helps alot.
And also, Drink alot of Water

I'll second Wii Fit Plus. I do about 30min. every weekday morning before work: 20 press-ups, followed by crunches, leg lifts and toe touches and free weights and then a 15-min. Wii Fit yoga routine. I don't think Wii Fit is keeping me trim, but I do think it's helping with my posture, flexibilty and balance and that's good enough for me.

I also like the chicken fitness game.

I got pretty good results with the first EA Sports Active. The activities are a little less strenuous than later titles in the series and therefore easier to use consistently. More Workouts is also good (and even cheaper these days) but more strenuous overall. I've had a harder time staying motivated with More Workouts.

I haven't tried EA Sports Active 2 yet and probably won't because of the cost. I don't have Wii Fit Plus for the same reason.

I use Wii Fit (since the release date, believe it or not) and EA Sports Active and they (combined) really works. I guess I will pick up the EA Active 2. I mean they work together if you want to loose some weight and do some healthy cardio. If you want to define your muscles go to a GYM but they are actually a good complement.

Playing about an hour+ of Red Steel 2 is a pretty good workout as well - surprised they don't pop-up an advisory to take a break every 30min. like Flingsmash!

It helps maintain health IMHO yes. I play wii fit plus nearly daily and I do feel it when I am unable to do the software due to illness for example.

EA Sports Active is a decent piece of software as well. However, its exactly the kind of unnecessarily intense sort of exercise that the majority of ppl will not keep up with. Wii Fit Plus is a lot better for a daily, long term exercise regimen.

Mario&Sonic, EA Grand Slam Tennis are good work outs as well.
