Hey there,

since I'm all new to the Wii world - getting a Wii after Christmas - I was wondering about the Club Nintendo. As far as I saw it there are different rewards in different countries. The rewards in Germany for example suck .. the ones on club.nintendo.com are awesome! There are also huge price differences. A Wiimote holder sets you back 2500 coins in the German store, but only 300 in the US store while the only obvious reason is a Mario head on the German one. I really want the NSMBW Straps .. any chance I can get those? The Wii is bought in the UK and used in Germany and Austria .. if it should depend on the location (via online connection or serial number .. dunno?!)

As a rather unrelated question to that I was wondering about updates for the Wii software. Is it simply done from the Wii menu? What about games? Are there updates for games? If so, how do you install those? A little introduction into that topic would be nice

Thanks in advance!

You can't get any items from the North American club nintendo site, nor can you register your games on the NA site. There is a UK club nintendo though, check into that.

There are no updates for games, but there are updates for the wii console, you'll usually be notified when there is a an update, or you can always manually update in the wii system settings menu.

I'm sorry, but I don't think you can get those sweet wrist straps unless you own a North American Wii Console. As for system updates, they are done from the Wii menu. Nintendo will remind you when a new update is available, so don't worry. As for games, I don't recall any updates for disk games. Updates happen all the time with certain Virtual Console and WiiWare titles, though. I hope this information comes in handy. Have fun!

I'm back (for the moment)!

Thanks to both of you. Well the stuff on the Uk store is the same as the Ger ... so I guess its a European store as opposed to a North American store .. unless some idiot puts those straps up on ebay I am out of luck :/

As for the updates: okay, sounds easy enough but I also read that there are additional maps (for example) for Black Ops .. how are those fitted into the game? Or is that only on PS3 and Xbox?

I'm not sure I can help you there, saible, but I'll try. There might be a mode for purchasing additional content in the game's main menu. Go into there and follow the on-screen instructions. After downloading, go into the mode with the content. It should be there. If you have any more questions, refer to the game's manual. This is very generic information, though, so don't accuse me for being a noob if it is bad.

Glad I could help out for what I could, though.

I'm pretty sure I did see the wrist straps from the Japanese Club Nintendo a couple times on eBay before and the NA ones look the same as those, so you can probably get them if you keep an eye out.

saible

Hey, thanks! On which ebay did you see them?

saible

saible

yeah me neither and I don't know any Japanese and Google translates sucks at Japanes

Anyone know a American forum?!

@saible
As for game updates, Black Ops just had an update that comes up when you try to connect to the internet/ play online, and there will also be updates in the future for new maps.

@Saible - the reason for the price differences is because of the coins garnered from each region's promotions. The US codes reward far less coins overall compared to the European games, hence the prices in the shop are a lot less.

As I own a US Wii and import 99% of my Nintendo games full stop, then I run a US Club Nintendo account to cash them in. A long time female friend over there provides the physical address for things to be sent to heh...

thanks everyone. Okay that explains the price difference but unless I find someone willing to sell the straps I'm out of luck so far right?

Ebay is gonna be your best chance at getting the sweet NA Club Nintendo swag.

The prices are not directly comparable. To get 2500 coins from games (though they'll also send you post-play surveys that can be answered for 10 coins), you'd need to buy 50 Wii games (50 coins each), 84 DS games (30 coins each) or 250 Wii Shop games (10 coins each). Even then, it's games released October 2008 and a limited selection of older games. So I'm not sure if it's even possible to buy that many.
I'm not sure how much 2500 stars is worth (EU Club), but I asked before and I think someone game me 8 Wii games as an approximate figure.

saible

Hmm .. I don't get your answer?! Is it 50 or 8 games? How much is one EU game worth in coins?

I think an EU Wii game tends to be 250 coins. The US equivalent is normally 50 coins.

I've wanted to do it sometimes, but my mom won't let me.

Have any of you noticed that this item was removed from the shop?

Yes I have. I would rather have the Japanese DS game holder though since it holds 18 cartridges where that one only holds 9. I picked that one and 2 of the other ones and now I have way too many games to fit in them.
