Topic: Best turn-based strategy game

Owning the PS2, I'm a big fan of a number of turn-based strategy games. Ring of Red, Dynasty Tactics, Future Tactics, Civilization 2, they're all games I've enjoyed immensely. Now the satisfied owner of a Wii, I'm finding that my choices are somewhat limited. I almost pulled the trigger on Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, but didn't want to drop $40+ on a game which stinks. Especially if there are better options out there. What do people consider the best Wii turn-based strategy game? I'd even go for a WiiWare game for a great gaming experience.

Thanks for any replies.

There really aren't many other options that I know of. I think Little King's Story is real-time, right?

Radiant Dawn certainly doesn't stink. It's super hard (for me), but fun regardless if you're willing to spend hours playing a game you may well not finish, even on easy. Of course, having played many more than me, you would probably do well. I've only played three FE games, Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Ogre, and Disgaea 3. I really need to play more, but that will have to wait for when I get a PSP Go. The system seems to be full of strategy games.

I didn't really like Radiant Dawn... I'm just not sure why...
If you went on to the virtual console, they have Shining Force 2 and Military Madness (like advance wars except on a hexagonal grid, I thinks there is supposed to be a new version put out on WiiWare at some point). I liked Shining Force and 2 is just a little different but I would say overall better, and would recommend 2 over the first one. Military Madness is fun for a little while...wait, just look them up on the search function at the top of the page.

Fire Emblem is a pretty cool game. As Ravage said, Shining Force 1 & 2 are available on virtual console and I like them as well. I prefer 1 over 2 though, but most disagree.

Radiant Dawn is a good game, especially if you don't mind a challenge. Definitely requires a lot of strategy.

i LOVE Fire Emblem. my favorite game series ever. but Radiant Dawn also wasn't my favorite. it was okay. but... one of the things i love most about Fire Emblem is that you really get to know and love and see the personalities of a huge cast of characters. and you're jumping around way too much in RD to really get that same feeling. also the ending is weird. Path of Radiance was amazing, however. that games changed my entire outlook on gaming. great, dramatic, moving story. excellent strategy gameplay. incredibly rewarding sense of accomplishment after building an army and keeping them alive throughout the game. overall it was/is fantastic.

First off, thanks for all the replies folks. I think I'll keep Fire Emblem at the top of my list, and add the Gamecube Fire Emblem title to it as well. I'll also be sure to look in the virtual console for the Shining Force titles too. I have heard that Little King's Story fits into this genre as well, but I'm not quite sure I'd spend $50 on it. Maybe I'll wait for a price drop (dunno if that'll ever happen) or a used copy.

In the meantime, even though it's not a turn-based strategy game, Dawn of Discovery captured my eye, so I settled on that for the time being. It seems a lot like Civilization, so it should be fun. I'm also excited about Mecho Wars on WiiWare, though I don't expect that to be released anytime soon. Anyways, thanks for the replies folks, and if you think of anything else, let me know.

PS: Adam, I never did get to apologize to you for the rude way I responded to you on a thread in the 'Off Topic' section, I'm sorry.

Adam, cool. Thanks.

Also came back to comment on the upcoming Hudson WiiWare update/release of Military Madness. Found a game trailer video of this game online which looks pretty darn cool. If this thing comes in at 1,000 WiiPoints it'll be a steal IMO.

Also, watched a game trailer of Fire Emblem for the Wii and I'm definitely intrigued. I think it'll be my next purchase.

I think if you spent the 50$ on Little Kings Story you wouldn't be disappointed with it.But a used copy would be good to if your trying to save a few bucks.I paid full price and felt it was worth it.Fire Emblem:the Sacred Stones (gba) was fun , i haven't tried Path of Radiance or Radiant Dawn yet.

Little King's Story is not turn-based but it is an excellent, first-class game.
