I am trying to move Super Mario Bros Game save (Wii) to my Wii U. WITHOUT using the transfer program that Nintendo offer. I want to keep all the data on my Wii at the end of the operation.
My question is thus:
I have the game save in question on a SD card (Taken from the Wii). Can I use the SD card in my Wii U to transfer the data across to the Wii Virtual Console? I looked for the data management within the virtual console (on the wii u) but couldn't find the same menus as the Wii.
I was thinking that I can use a USB drive to transfer the data across. Here is how I tried to do this. I moved the Wii Game Save onto the SD card. I then plugged in the SD card into a laptop. I plugged my USB into the same laptop and moved the game save across. When I looked at the Data Management on the Wii U (the USB device) the game save wasn't there.
All I want to do is move the New Super Mario Bros game save from my brother's Wii onto my Wii U. I would have thought that doing this would have been simple, however this has turned into one of the most difficult things I have had to do using IT. And I have a HND in Computing...
What @MonocledMetroid said. Also, USB devices will NOT be recognized until you format them while plugged into the WiiU, so that doesn't work to begin with.
And, just to mention it: any Wii game with online features (Mario Kart, Brawl, Sin & Punishment) has save data that cannot be copied. For those, you must perform a data transfer.
Ah Ok. thank you very much for your assistance. I tried to do this through the Wii U via the SD card before. It didn't work because for some reason the Virtual Console didn't have the "Wii" bubble and the "SD" bubble on it. After a system update on my Wii U console however these options appeared on my Virtual Console. This has caused me a lot of headaches and after extensive Google searching I was unable to find the solution. So again thank you for your help
I can only transfer normal saves from retail discs. Example: my Wii laser don´t read Xenoblade, so I copied my Wii Xenoblade save data to the SD and then I enter to my Wii mode in my Wii U and I copied the save data to play my Xenoblade with my save. But there is an important thing, before you transfer the save data your Wii U need to detect you play before the game (Xenoblade in this example) so you can copy the data. This is a little annoying if you want to begin to transfer all your saves to play them in Wii U because you need to put the game, then play it one minute, then exit and then copy the save.
The only exception of this are the wi-fi games for the simply reason you can´t copy the data, they need obligatory the transfer system, and I don´t want to do that.
Me gusta jugar videojuegos. Soy de México. Sorry my english grammar. I love the Virtual Console, party and fighting games too.
Yep, that was true even on the Wii. I had my machine serviced and a new motherboard - as far as my games were concerned this was a new machine. I couldn't copy a single backed-up save file to my Wii until I had loaded every last game into the machine. Very annoying, but better than losing all my save data!
