Topic: What were Skyward Swords biggest flaws? How should Nintendo address them in the next game?

Want to hear what you guys think but I thought it was just too simple. The world was barren, and once you got over how relaxing it is to fly around with the bird, you realized that there wasn't much of anything to see in the sky. Worse, the best part of Zelda games, the discovery of new weapons, was made almost an after-thought. You actually fill up your weapon wheel far before the end of the game. That was just a huge disappointment to me.

I have to agree that the sky was generally boring, there was little to nothing out there when there could of been tons of things. There was also the boss fight with Ghirahim towards the end with the whole position your sword attack quick enough to hit him which was obnoxious. There was also the whole upgrading and 3 different types of shields which was annoying especially as you needed to catch tumbleweeds. MY final gripe was the running around as a spirit collecting those little orbs was OBNOXIOUS! Everything else was great though

Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate it. It was just disappointing. It wasn't an epic adventure on the same level as WW or TP.

On the contrary, I think that Skyward Sword captured the essence of Zelda in ways that Twilight Princess failed.

I liked it, it wasn't epic but the few characters that where in the game(compared to most of the other zelda games) felt somewhat real, you know they weren't deep but they weren't shallow, there's not too much exageration it had some sort of SliceOfLife-like charisma.
but there's too much backtracking, old wii remotes make nunchuck bug in battles and that "SliceOfLife-like charisma" took all the tension from the story....
but none of these made the game bad or not so good, it was great! but different a good kind of different!

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is by far my least favorite 3D Zelda game. My problems were:

  • poor over-world structure
  • overly repetitive (forcing the player to repeat dungeons was a horrible idea)
  • too easy (I only died once in my whole play-through; though Twilight Princess is just as easy)
  • little to no thinking required to solve puzzles and defeat bosses (felt like I was just going through motions—not once did the game stump me)
  • Hero's Mode has to be unlocked by playing through the the whole game on default difficulty
  • uninteresting and relatively insubstantial character design and style (with just a couple standout exceptions)
  • sometimes poor use of color
  • very boring, unoriginal, and largely unexpressive soundtrack (suffers from "epic because it's orchestral" sort of thinking)
  • poorly reworked and far less effective Zelda themes
  • constantly having to recalibrate the controller

A generally bland tone coats the game. It was consistently uninteresting and highly derivative of other works. I also didn't like the especially strong modern anime influences. All the other 3D Zelda games offered a generally far more dynamic experience than Skyward Sword.

None.
It was perfect in my eyes. I loved EVERY SINGLE PIXEL (everything) of it.

@Kewlan then your wii remote was new or in a good state because that was my only REAL problem as the other things I complained aren't really bad if you're playing on your wii without hurry(I still want to try it with a new wii remote on a videogame of my own, as I had to play on my cousin's wii and complete as fast as I could to give his wii back, just to see how good it really is)

I liked the game. There's more that could have been done, I suppose, but it was good for what it was.

1. Don't add sidequests if they're all just far more annoying versions of the gameboy fetch quests.
2. Don't put in a constantly annoying tutorial bot and treat your audience like morons if the game is too difficult for a moron anyway.
3. Have the first 3 hours be fun.

This, this, and this. It was so annoying how many times it came uncentered. Other than that, I didn't like how anjoying it was to transition between areas (you land in the wrong spot, so you have to return to the sky so you can fly over the same hole again and then land in the right place). I didn't like how shields had life bars, and it effectively killed my wanting to use it at all (I don't want all of that collection and upgrading to go to waste). The sky was uninteresting, collecting orbs as a spirit was annoying, too much backtracking, and Girahim fights where you have a hard time striking in particular places fast enough also were annoying.

Despite that, I liked the story and characters a lot. The characters, especially Link, showed a lot of expression in their faces and actions, and the new setting and its place in the timeline were nice to discover.

I guess it could've used more areas/environments, I didn't mind the flying that much. (honestly I enjoyed the flying and sailing from both this and Wind Waker anyways). But yeah, was hoping more than 3 main areas (not including Skyloft, lol).

yeah, I think after Twilight Princess and Wind Waker focused on being bigger but had less stuff on the overworld (which is borderline a lie in TP's case, but whatever) they wanted the main areas to have lots of stuff and reasons to go back to it but they kinda went too far in the opposite direction.

  • Fi kept pointing out some the most obvious stuff and stuff you already know like "your health is low" and "there is a treasure chest containing a big key".
  • The game is very linear. Probably one of the most linear Zelda game in the series.
  • Controller getting out of sync is annoying, especially during fights. Thankfully, it didn't happen too often with me.
  • Upgrading items is way too easy. Managed to upgrade everything by the half-way point of the game.

Besides those problems, great game.

You can completely avoid damaging your shield by flicking the nunchuk to perform a shield bash right before the projectile/melee attack hits you to deflect it. Figured it out early on saving me lots of rupees, materials, and time.

When ever you land in an area, it let you choose where you wanted to land, as long as you had the bird statue activated.

I was annoyed by the shield life-bars at first, but it makes more sense once you realize you have to focus on blocking alot more effectively than any of the other Zelda games.

isn't that impossible when Twilight Princess is Ocrina of Time 2.0.

Honestly the only way to fix is to Skyrim/Xenoblade the world up and have item's being able to be get through dungeons as well as stores and many differnt types of items. Say you buy a Rod form the store and than to get magic spells for it you have to go through many dungeons/areas.
