i think the games on wi u are great but the issue that is putting me off is amibos, i am not realy interested in the figures but i am worried i will want the dlc they offer, are they worth the money? i can see mario is £10.99, is the in game content they offer worth this amount? and also do they give you an advantage with online play (pay2win)? oh and lastly, do you think i am to late to the party?
90% of wiiU games don't have amiibo functionality, and those that do (minus Amiibo Festival) only cosmetic options or tacked on content that isn't required to enjoy the game.
And as for late to the party, what does that even mean? If you buy one now it'll be nice and cheap, all the good games are out, and there are still people playing online.
@cludo88: If you're interested at all in Hyrule Warriors though I'd recommend picking up a Link amiibo as that unlocks the Spinner weapon (can't be unlocked in any other way). Other than that, @Santa's comment sums it up well.
I just got mine one month ago and i have no regrets! I feel like even even though it's reaching the latter part of it's lifespan, it still has probably a year or more left, so I feel it's definitely not too late!
I have 20 Amiibos which I think is probably a bit too many. With that many Amiibo? TBH other than the fun I had with Smash Bros early on I haven't used them much. They're really just nice figurines and not much else. Which isn't a bad thing. Where else was I going to get a Shovel Knight, Splatoon, ROB, Mr Game & Watch or King Dedede?
As for the Wii U itself now is probably as good a time as any to dive into it. You have a full library of software you can pick through and at this point prices have gone down. And the Wii U does have some of the best games of this generation of consoles thus far. Pretty much all of them exclusive to the Wii U. Based on Metacritics scores and a quick splitting of genres which I'm sure someone will dispute:
Best Platformer: Super Mario 3D World (Wii U)
Best Fighting game: Smash Bros (Wii U)
Best "Action" game: Bayonetta 2 (Wii U)
Best "Adventure" game: Metal Gear Solid V (PC, PS3, PS4, 360, XBOne)
Best Open World game: GTA V (PC, PS3, PS4, 360, XBOne)
Best Racing Game: Mario Kart 8 (Wii U)
Best "Genre Bender": Rocket League (PC, PS4, XBOne*)
I would save your cash until the end of the year and grab the NX... The good Wii U games will be remastered in 900p and come packaged with Amiibo for $99.99 each
There will be no more remasters than for any other Nintendo console. Iwata said that NX isn't a normal replacement console for the Wii U or 3DS, but a totally new way to play games. That Nintendo would start to do lots of remasters of old games all of a sudden would work against their aim to introduce a new style of playing.
And Nintendo never do that many remasters, except perhaps home-console-to-portable. For home consoles, the remasters that Nintendo traditionally does are for the big budget games (Zelda and perhaps Xenoblade in the future), where the development costs are split during multiple platforms.
@jariw: that dude's a sad troll he ain't worth your time trust me. He's also going to spend $400+ on PSVR day 1 so he's in no position to give advice on what is worth anyone's money.
@MadAussieBloke: You cannot just assume the NX is around the corner. The NX is only getting details released this year. If someone wants to play video games, I don't see 'wait for around a year' as helpful lol.
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
@GrailUK: It has been set in stone for a while now that they're shipping 20 million of these babies by the end of the year... All aboard the E3 2016 hype train ya'll
Please stop trolling. The spec for NX isn't even known yet, and Nintendo would expect to sell more than Wii/Wii U/3DS/2DS/GC did during the first months after release?
@MadAussieBloke: There's a lot of NX rumours about, the biggest flaw with your assumption is about NX representing a single console. Nintendo is well known for making their console names confusing so it would be pretty normal if NX represents both a handheld releasing in 2016 and a home console releasing in 2017.
@MadAussieBloke: Actually no. The 3DS sales are on a steady decline. The Wii U's sales have remained constant during its life time, selling around 4 million units each year. If anything, they need to adress their handheld section first. Whether they release a home console this year or next year doesn't really matter. Well.. except that they would be releasing one during the PS4's prime year if they decide to release a new home console this year.
thanks for the feedback guys what a lovely community, i have always been a nintendo fan since the super nintendo but i lost touch after the gamecube, i have another small question though, i have bought 3 multiplayer games, splatoon, mario kart and super smash, hows the player count, still many playing these games? thanks
so thanks to the enthusiasm of people replying to my previous post i have decided to buy a wii u it should come this week, i have a small question though,i have bought splatoon, super smash bros and mario kart and i was wondering if the online community is still thriving for these games...thanks
Splatoon and Smash are still very much active. Not sure how active the community here is in Mario Kart, but since it's the Wii U's best selling game, you're bound to find plenty of people to race against without a problem.

@cludo88:
Mario Kart 8 online does not have as much players now as when it was released (or just after the DLCs were released). But I have seldom had problems finding players, although finding a full 12-player race within the ranking range is rare.
Splatoon online is very active. Especially the Japanese Splatoon players are increasing all the time by rather large amounts. I can't imagine it should be any problems finding low level players when you start playing, generally speaking. Sometimes you might be unlucky with the matchmaking and end up with lots of experienced players in the match, which can be very tough for a beginner.
Please note that the Splatoon and Smash requires a pretty good internet connection, and Splatoon is especially unforgiving to bad connections. You might need a wired connection through a LAN adapter. Or not.
Mario Kart 8 basically allows any kind of connection lags.
