Everyone I've talked to who has actually played the game really enjoys it. Unfortunately with every popular release comes trolls who deliberately give the game a bad "user" review without actually playing it just to piss people off.

Doesn't seem so looking at the verified purchase reviews on such as Amazon.

Cannot imagine people buy it just to troll.

well nowadays 7s and 8s are considered bad

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.

Which shows how badly the reviewing scale has become.

I don't consider 7 or higher(obviously) bad. If it's 6 or lower, I'll do a bit more research if it's a big title or I liked another game from the series, but I don't even care much for reviews, anyway. RedSteel got a 5, here on NL, and I liked that better than ZombiU, considering when they released and such.

EDIT: The same thing goes for plenty of games I've played. I think Uncharted 2 got a higher score than the first game, but I didn't like it nearly as much. The same goes for Super Mario Galaxy and Dead Space(I liked the first games more).

EDIT: I like Mass Effect 3 better than 1, though.

That is where personal opinion comes in. I don't think a game is "unplayable" until reviews start reaching 3s or 4s. Some people act like a 7 is the worst thing they have ever experienced. Those people must have amazing lives. I have enjoyed plenty of games that got below 7. I think some sites need to redo how reviews work. To many reviews let cosmetic changes inflate their scores. Cosmetic changes are going to happen, I want to here about people's experiences with a game and about gameplay. I don't care how many pixels or polygons a particular dev was able to push onto the screen. Imagine if movie reviews were that way. If there wasn't CGI shoved into everything the movie wouldn't be considered "good"

Alot of it has to do with when it was released. People are expecting more as time goes on, but are forgetting that what came before was still good. Assassin's Creed 1 would probably get a 5 by todays standards, but it got 7-8s when it came out.

The same thing goes for plenty of series. Let's compare Super Mario Bros. U to Super Mario Bros, Rayman Legends to Rayman on PS1, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition to Tomb Raider on PS1, etc.

Its more like... the crazy hype that Ubisoft DID TO THEMSELVES by showing gorgeous footage and advertisements has led to this situation. People who expected more and to be impressed are mad at this game but people who had expectations in check are actually having fun. The game is pretty at times and its really ugly at times, too.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

I dunno I still think the best Rayman is Rayman 2 on the Dreamcast. (Even now it is the only version of any Rayman i don't mind playing).

Metal Slug X and 3 are still the best Metal Slug games.

The best Castlevania's are still Rondo of Blood / III and X68000 (None of which I played until quite recently).

The best Megaman X games are X for the SNES and X4 for the Saturn.

(Cannot comment properly on Mario because of potential bias but I got far far more out of the Wii VC Lost Levels than any of the NSMB games I have played so far.)

The first Assasins Creed had an interesting premise. (They should make one where you are a modern day Jihadist taking out world leaders to introduce Sharia Law across the world.)

The best thing about games is starting off and dying all the time (Like within a few minutes) improving until you kind of get the mechanics (Then you get the most enjoyable bit). People seem to hate that and want to watch cutscenes for the first 30 mins.

Yeah, no.

I know there are a lot of games where you're playing as a morally grey character, but that's more than a step too far. Releasing a game like that would be commercial suicide, especially here in the US (and for good reason).

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

There's a reason why all the FPS's set in modern day are America **** yeah. Six days in Fallujah tried to change that and it got canned. The original Rainbow six the patriots was also supposed to be more controversal but it also got crap canned.

Watch Dogs did hit at the exact right time, near future is pretty in these days, and they delayed the game long enough to get out of the GTAV shadow and at a time where people are starving for content. Plus the whole NSA shady government buying are data is topical.

Too bad the story and characters while decent seem to be a miss mash of every computer or hacking based theirller.

See, I wouldn't compare Rayman 2 to Legends, because of the 2D, 3D difference, just as I wouldn't compare NSMB.U to Super Mario 64, for example. I'm only comparing games that are fundamentally mostly the same. Maybe it's a stretch to compare the original Tomb Raider to the new one, because I haven't played either, but I'll leave that for someone else to decide...

I thought the Castlevania on 3DS was pretty good, but fans of the older games didn't really like it, because it wasn't what they would expect. That's when we get into this loop that the new game is absolutely better than the old ones, and the older ones are played for nostalgic sake, or people think the new one is crappy and wasn't worth the effort.

We're never going to get anything new if people can't move past the older stuff. Sometimes it works out, but it seems like it doesn't, alot of the time.

I think developers should stop relying on existing series and utilize new franchises if they want to do something really new. It's less limiting, anyways.

I don't mind ones painting America in a less graceful light, that's for sure. It's starting to feel like propaganda these days...

Well they are, commerical games and movies tend to following a pretty formulaic take on the military. The ground level soldiers are always the everymen who are good wholesome Americans, the main bad guys tend to either be either

1.Non American
2. Coruppt government officials
3. Government officials who aren't true Americans due to having so much lower.
4. Normal rich folks.

So its up to the US Army and its insert dog, alien robots, giant lizards we'd be screwed.

Watch Kevin Spacys character in the new Call of Duty end up running mad with power and become the main villlian.

I get the most enjoyment out of games when I go in without preconceptions and have no conscious or subconscious comparisons.

If the bar is raised that is ok as well but is so rare these days it happens I think overall it would be better if people just made new stuff. (Like what Rare chose to do with Banjo-Kazooie). Most games should be like that - a new thing.

Well, it seems the topic here has more or less backfired on @memoryman3.

Sadly, the reception and final versions of Watchdogs look...mediocre at best...on all platforms, including his precious PS4. Despite getting pretty decent reviews, the general consensus from the gaming community is an overall "meh" following the two years of hype and delays. I'm sure the game sold pretty well so it will probably avoid being the "Waterworld" of video games in that respect.

Okay, so not quite this...optimistic review scores and pr-order hype may be a factor.

Still, the game is an overall disappointment considering the hype, early trailers, and long years of anticipation.

Not a bad looking game, but nothing that screams "OMG NEXT GEN"

@Action51

What reactions are you looking at. I'm looking at the youtube streamers and places like Gaf and the game seems to be getting favorable word of mouth. You sorta seem like a pessimist coupling this with the video game crash topic.

Also two things, first off that screenshot is hilariously compressed, and two the game was never going to scream next gen because ITS ON THE LAST GENERATION OF SYSTEMS. I really don't know what people were expecting when their's clearly a gulf between next gen only games (Ryse, Infamous, Batman, The Witcher) and games that are on every system under the sun.

As per the game being a success Ubisoft has said that its the fastest selling game in their company's history. When I went to gamestop on tuesday morning their were at least 30 people in line, and the guy told me that the next gen versions of the game were selling the most.

As per the water world remarks I doubt the game will be unprofitable and pull in a tiny product. Ubisoft is betting to pull off an Assissan's Creed though were the first game was slightlity unprofitable but did well enough that the sequels will be a thing and sell crazy ton making profit. Now the the question remains on whether they go straight to making sequels yearly, or do they give the WD team a two year development cycle like Assissn's Creed got between one and two.
