This is Nintendo's "big hitter" for WiiU this year? I think I'm going to cry in the corner right now.

Ironically... I'm actually very hyped.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

It looks fun. I'll give it a chance.

I think Mario Strikers U would have been a better option, for you know... the lack of footy.

I could just go back to Wii Sports Club for tennis.

I'll play a Mario Sports game when there are players I care about featured in it.

I'm interested in this, but I think this was perfect for a Nintendo Direct.
BTW, I enjoyed the 3DS version... before I suddenly dropped the game. Let's hope this has way more content than the 3DS game.

God first.

I hope this is out in time for Wimbledon :/

As is the case with most Wii U games, it comes down to whether it'll have online or not. If it doesn't, I'm more than happy sticking with Everybody's Tennis on the PS2 and PS Vita.

Mario Tennis Open had online multiplayer, so I don't see why this wouldn't.

You expect this game to be out in two weeks?!

That's terrible. Nintendo used to be the pioneer and core advocate for motion controls.

Now, for a game that would be perfect for them, we are forced to give up immersion for buttons. Ugh, c'mon Nintendo give us OPTIONS.

But just like how a right stick option should be included for people who prefer it in Splatoon, motion control should be included for people who prefer it in Mario Tennis. Logically, it makes a lot of sense in a game like Mario Tennis.

I hate how people have such a double standard. The second a developer even thinks of using motion control, everyone asks if there is a "pro controller option". Even in applications where motion control is objectively better like for moving a cursor around.

But the second a developer openly states that they aren't using motion control, everyone either rejoices or doesn't care.

This game supports the GamePad, Pro Controller, and the Wii Remote. In the case of the Wii Remote, it can only be played sideways. No more waggle controls!

I should also mention that there will likely be a bunch of new characters, perhaps even from outside the Mario series!

If there is no option to turn off chance shots then definitely not buying.

What's "perfect" with that? Have you even watched any gameplay of this game? This is a party game, and it's not anywhere close to a tennis emulator. The on-screen animations doesn't even care if the character is positioned forehand or backhand.

The Wii U Sports Club tennis use the Wiimote motion controls, which is where it belongs.

The motion of swinging a racket is very similar to that of swinging the Wii Remote. It's motion controls that work well in the sense that Mario Galaxy and Deadly Creatures worked well. They improve the immersion and engagement because the player does a motion analogous to in-game. It's a very similar logic to why you tend to use a trigger button to shoot a gun in a shooter. The physical motion feels more real.

Also, it doesn't matter if it's just a couple of buttons, motion controls are more intuitive to people who are unfamiliar with games. There is no control mapping to learn. You just swing the remote to swing the racket.

I don't care too much about motion controls to be honest. I am really looking forward to this, love all the tennis games bat the GameCube one, and although I'd much prefer them to go back to the serious take in Mario Tennis 64, I still enjoy them. Just hope they give us control over the games options, everything (including losing those circles), and also don't do the same as the stupid 3DS version and only allow best of 3 matches!

Wait, this game doesn't use motion controls?

Oh thank God. That is the one thing that would have prevented me from buying.

I'm not really interested in Ultra Smash right now but I do appreciate it being the first game to have a proper remix of the Mega Mushroom theme. Seriously, that theme's been the same old until now since its introduction in NSMB.

Just think for a second what you just said. You just said if a game uses motion controls, even as an option, it turns you away. Why is a non-motion control option necessary, but a motion control option is a dealbreaker.

By the way, when did motion controls become so demonized? They were plenty popular all the way up till this generation. I'm not saying there weren't dissenters, but nowadays, it seems like the whole internet is against them.
