I love my Wii U, like REALLY love it. But no, the best console of all time definitely goes to the Playstation 1. NO contest.

@Tasuki The SNES is a very close 2nd on my list. The reason why PS1 outshines the SNES imo is the introduction of memory cards.

I found it really strange when I found out that the GameCube was Nintendo's lowest-selling home console (until the Wii U), because that console is all anyone in my generation ever talks about. How do I get wrapped up in that many conversations about Melee, Wind Waker, or Sunshine, when so many more N64's and SNES's were actually moved? Looking at the numbers, I'm surprised so many people even saw a Gamecube.

I hate to say it, but in 8 years, everyone is going to remember this console as the one with a stupid gimmick. That won't be what I will be thinking, but you know everyone else will.

Let's see. If you want to talk hardware, pretty much every home console laughs in the Wii U's face.

If you want to talk games, the Wii U has one of the most disappointing lineups in Nintendo history. The 3D Mario game was a complete flop. The Mario Kart and Smash Bros were up to series standards, but nothing above and beyond. There are almost no sports games, and there are 2D platformers about wasting the hardware's potential.

So no, the Wii U is far from the best Nintendo console, let alone the best console of all time.

I think the Wii U is a great console, but I don't think it's the greatest.

10 years from now, I think the Wii U will be seen a slightly worse GameCube.

Nah... It has fantastic games and a great controller with potential, but I think the honor of best console(for me, at least) goes to GameCube. However, I see the Wii U as a GC 2.... That's just me, though.
I love my Wii U, but it has to give me a bit more for me consider it being my best console.

The gamecube is probably nintendos worst home console but to be fair it did have some decent exclusives like the resident evil remake and 0 obviously also got a great port of residence 4 and a few other nintendo games too.

A port? The other versions of Resident Evil 4 were ports,the Gamecube version was the original.

I'm by no means an authority on which platform is the best of all time. I've mostly owned Nintendo platforms outside of PC and mobile. Through that and the VC I'd say I have a fair idea of all of them except the Gamecube so I'd be pretty comfortable ranking it against Nintendo platforms. But outside of Nintendo and PC I'd say the only platforms I'd be comfortable with "rating" at this point would be the Master System, PS1, PS2, XBox and 360. Although I'm pretty sure I could rate the PS4/XBOne to this point based on all of the PC versions of those games.... a bit too early to tell IMO...

With that all said I'll put this three different ways. I think the DS Lite is the best physical piece of hardware any console manufacturer has ever come up with. In terms of single player content? PC is and has always been where it's at. Without question. And with local-multiplayer? I'd argue that no experience I've had on any platform has quite beaten Halo LANs on the original XBox. But on all three counts? The Wii U rates pretty damn well. I don't think that makes it "the best", but depending on my mood I tend to rank it above most other platforms consistently.

I feel similarly about the Wii U as I did about the Dreamcast. I think it's a great console. I'd put it higher than the Wii and Gamecube but definitely lower than the SNES. Unfortunately lower than every Playstation as well. Or maybe it's currently a bit better than the PS4. Not for much longer though. And definitely not in the long run.

To me it'll be better than PS4 until at least 2016. If games like Disgaea 5, Persona 5, FF XV and MGSV turn out well it might be a match by the end of the year thanks to the third party support it also has. Though I'm not sure what good games (other than HD upgrades) it'll get in 2016 that I care for. Wii U already has Zelda and probably Metroid for 2016.

I'm inclined to say that the PS2 and Wii are. Lame answer, naming the two best selling consoles, but I think they really deserved it.

But Wii U is also a Wii, so inherently it must also be the best console.

Wii plays Gamecube games. I prefer pretty much every current Wii U game over its Gamecube counterpart, but until the Wii U has a Zelda and Metroid game, the Gamecube's library will be better overall.

But you can play Wind Waker HD and the Metroid Prime Trilogy on Wii U so....

Compatibility is a very big concern of mine, but it's not my primary concern. Of course since the Wii plays all Gamecube games, I can't entertain the thought of the Gamecube being a better machine than the Wii for more than 0.2 seconds, but with the native libraries of the Gamecube and Wii U being as different as they are, I look at original titles first, remakes/collections/etc second.

um.. no. in what way would it be? it doesnt sell that well, it doesnt have that many games(it has good games mind you, but not that many of them), the gamepad is nifty, but not quite a revolution. i just dont see how it can be qualified as best console ever. of course, for Nintendo fans, the newest nintendo console is logically the best, but thats simply the opinion of one group

Kind of a meaningless statement. PS4 was the fastest selling console of all time, but it just got its first must-have exclusive last month, its 16th month on the market. Analysts will spend decades trying to figure out why people are actually buying the Xbox One. Nintendo fans certainly aren't alone in jumping all over new hardware for no real reason.
