I'm new to this site and thought I'd share a first thought on an idea I came up with for a new Mario game, in hope that Nintendo follows up with it. With the exception of there being multiple Mario games for a single platform, you Nintendo fans probably realized how there is always one "main" Mario game for each. The one for the previous system, Super Mario Galaxy, was pretty deep. I thought to myself, what will be the next Mario game that gets deeper than adventuring into galaxies? Then I thought of something that might be pretty interesting.
Super Mario Portal
Bowser is fed up with Mario always standing in the way from him keeping the princess for himself, and so he decides to say his good byes forever. He manages to crossover into a giant warp tunnel taking the princess with him. There is a huge gateway (world map) stretching from between the human world and the dinosaur world in which he used to first make his presence. He plans on finally sealing it up after he and the princess travel through. Mario and Bowser chase each other trying to put a stop on the opponent's plan. While they both concentrate on putting a stop on one another, Peach is put in even greater harm. During the travels through the an area of many portals, Bowser gets thrown accidentally pushing Peach off a ledge and into another another dimension. Now she is all alone.
In this game, Mario and Bowser work on opposite sides as always, but have the same goal of finding Peach. During Mario's side of the story, he runs into mysterious beings known as Virtual Wizards. They are the ones whom create virtual tunnels to different realms. It is not natural for one to travel through another world of life, and so the Virtual Wizards help him to find Peach. As a test, he must find a key to get through one portal (World 1) and then he will be shown to the next one (World 2). As Mario adventures further through the warp tunnel, he discovers new powers and learns to master virtual worlds. But there are also bad Virtual Wizards whom later are revealed of helping Bowser.
If I could take a step further, I'd like to see a Rashomon style situation. You'd have Mario's perspective on a situation. Then switch to Bowser's. And so on.
I'm not really sure it would lend itself to traditional style of Mario games, but maybe as a side story.
NL is not affliated with nintendo. Your forum posts will most likely not be read by a wandering Nintendo employee either.

Well as for the main style, there isn't really anything new in any of the games that conflicts with the story or characters, so they're all pretty much side stories. Bowser kidnaps Peach again and again coming up with different plans each time.
How about a game where Bowser (somehow) warps Mario, Luigi, Peach, and every single Toad but one, because he was hiding!
So then you get to be that toad, and you have to go rescue everybody!
Okay, maybe that's a bad idea.
Do you truly look at things positively? For example, do you look at the glass like it's always full? (Half water, half air.) Or when someone "lets the cat out of the bag," do you think it's because the person felt sorry for the cat stuck in the bag? There is a positive side to almost everythin...
Welcome @Volt-Kid!
That was a pretty good idea. I thought you were going to describe Mari0 for a second when I saw the name. :0

It would be funny though. He goes on an adventure with colorful vocabulary. "****ing Mario! Why do you have to ****ing leave everything to me?"
Princess is the hero and mario's the one locked up?
No way. Peach can't defend herself for dirt. She is lost when all of this is happening, but I thought that maybe someone else other than Bowser get a hold of her. I'm randomly throwing this out - Darabool, king of the dark Virtual Wizards. It has been stated in the Mario Wiki that Peach is the only one who can undo Bowser's dark magic, and so Darabool wants to keep her from it.

For me I hope they drop the whole ''Galaxy'' thing . Having it for two games was great and it worked well and both Galaxy 1 and 2 to me were amazing games, but this is your brand new system, you don't want just another sequel, it would be very lack luster in the hype department because you cant really do much with it anymore.
I personally like it if the next Mario was like a hybrid of Super Mario 64 and Ocarina Of Time.
What I mean by this is, have the exploration of Mario 64 where it felt like you could go anywhere you want at any given time, give wide open levels that gave you a feeling that you were exploring that certain environment.being outside the castle and being able to go around in the moat and even on top of the castle was a really cool thing and I feel its something that needs to be touched on again.
Then include how things were with Ocarina Of Time. When you first walk out of the castle and look at the world map and in the distance you can see the woods, lon lon ranch, you can see the volcano etc etc, you can see all these great landmarks that you can go to and explore and continue your missions/story to or just go to check out and talk to the NPC's etc etc.
I feel mixing Super Mario 64 and Ocarina Of Time's open exploration could be a cool thing(to me personally). Imagine an HD mario walking out of Princess's Castle and looking out into the world map of the Mushroom Kingdom, if my memory stands correct, this would be first time we'd actually be able to explore the mushroom kingdom from this perspective.
To me just being able to see all the great landmarks from the mushroom kingdom in the backgrounds for us to see and explore and heck maybe even be able to travel and see Bowsers castle from a distance, who knows. I know its kinda getting into the open world theme and that would either be hit or miss.

Despite New Super Mario Bros. Wii's sequel being for the next console, I think the Galaxy series is done with. That one was like the main Mario game for the Wii.
That sounds like a neat idea. Have something like Super Mario World, but with free scrolling.
