Snow Castle Games has stated that their JRPG, Earthlock: Festival of Magic has already been submitted to Nintendo and has passed inspection. The game will be releasing on PS4/Steam first but the Wii U version should be releasing before the end of Summer! Are you looking forward to this epic JRPG? Anyways let the discussion begin.

This game really deserves more recognition as Earthlock: Festival of Magic and Soul Saga are essentially PS2-level AAA titles which is quite a feat for small to medium sized indie developers.

I backed the Kickstarter but didn't know it would release on the Wii U this soon. Really looking forward to it.

Right you are. There are small teams, sometimes a handful of people or less, that create something of the scope, length and the graphical versatility of a SNES/N64/Dreamcast/PS2/Gamecube era product or better. And then they give it away for 1.99 - 19.99. ^^

I mean it's good for us, I'm glad times are over when I had to import US versions from RPGs I wanted that were 80€ - 90€ back then. Now I can get brandnew RPGs (in many cases of identical or better quality) like UnEpic, Citizens of Earth, Child of Light, Squids Odyssee, Asdivine Hearts, Alphadia Genesis, Pier Solar, Earthlock and many more, for a small fraction of that price.

I support and respect developers who make them. Not just because they offer great / the same / better experiences for much less money, but because someone has to fish em out of the flooded environment they're in. To separate the stuff that has a lot of love in them from the cheaply made shovelware.

And it's not just about RPGs. It's about all the other genres as well that take tons of time and effort to make.

Where'd you read that? I don't see any updates anywhere. The most up-to-date location I could find was their Kickstarter, but the latest news update said they were still working on Beta testing. Was it in a forum? Even backer-only news should show up on the timeline, albeit locked...

Their twitter says they're working on the "launch trailer" so can't be too far away! Maybe Nintendolife should report on this one? It is an impressive looking game.

@Rukiafan7

Lol PS2 AAAs? Is that the way of saying low-budget cartoony art style?

@CanisWolfred I had a discussion with the developer on Twitter. I can't really get into any details, but we shouldn't be waiting much longer for this gem to release on the eShop!

You mean your public twitter page right in your signature that anyone can read, even those who don't have a twitter account? Or do you mean some private one that no one can easily find? Why can't you go into details? Why can't you just share the twitter comment with a link or something? Did you sign some non-disclosure agreement?

@CanisWolfred It was DM's so it's mostly confidential though "except the release window" I'm sure if you asked them they'd be happy to DM you details about the expected release time-frame.

Dude. Now you just sound like a 5 year old who just got his first holographic trading card, and you're waving it around in everyone's faces like it's actually something special, despite the fact that a holographic is guaranteed in every pack...

Then again, I just looked at Snowcastle's twitter page again, and they've been obnoxiously coy for the past week, too. Ugh...I this is why I hate people...they act like information is a fist-full of gold, when it's really more like sand - it's everywhere, anyone can pick it up, and no matter what you do, it'll always fall through your fingers.

...actually, I could keep going with this analogy, it really is perfect to some up human communication. But this is definitely not the thread for philosophical ramblings...I'm movin' on. If this game comes out, it comes out. If they're smart, the news won't be nearly as hard to find as it has been. But at this point, their product isn't worth the time and energy. That's the only messege I can gleam from their actions...

Maybe you should just wait til they announce something?

Problem is, they're not very consistant about where they put their announcements. Apparently Snowcastle Games has 5 different websites that they put news on (official site, Kickstarter, twitter, facebook, and a blog), and it looks like they just update on whatever they had open that day. Twitter seems to be where they're the most active, but it's also the hardest for me to find relevent information on...basically, I haven't heard about this game in a Year and a half until Rukiafan made this post, and I probably won't hear about it again until the reviews come in...and I'm already doubting how prevalent those will be, on account of how poor their advertising skills seem to be after their Kickstarter ended.

@CanisWolfred Dude what am I supposed to do? I can't share my Twitter account so you can view my DM's as that'd be illegal. I'm just giving you what information I'm actually allowed to. I'm sorry that I can't tell you more, but I don't want to have to defend myself against legal ninjas.

@Rukiafan7 he's just being irrational.

Not irrational. Just immensely frustrated, mostly because Earthlock's development has a pain and half to keep up with. I've also encountered problems with Rukiafan's posting habits in the past that leave me wary of any news he posts, especially when he doesn't include a link.

So yeah, Rukiafan, I'm sorry if this really is a case where you can't post the link and I'm just giving you a hard time. It's not really your fault at this point, regardless. I was basically venting, and you kinda got the worst of it since I refuse to use twitter, and therefore can't tell Snowcastle my frustrations to their face...

Got an email from them today:

We finally have a confirmed release date: Sept 1st
We will be launching on both XboxOne and PC/Mac(Possibly Linux) on September 1st. (PS4 and Wii U as soon as possible after that)

And they made a detailed on their Kickstarter timeline. Thank freaking God. Aparently they're going to "shift some efforts to marketing," which will likely alleviate those frustrations I mentioned earlier. And now whenever it releases on a platform that matters, there'll be some detailed player feedback I can look into before I decide whether or not it's actually worth it...

Okay, thank you for posting that, @DiscoGentleman. I was thinking a November release would be bad timing, but if the PS4 version is coming out sooner than the Wii U versin, a late November release should be fine. It's not like there's anything else coming out on the Wii U around that time...
