Topic: To buy Spikey Walls or not to buy? (Updated thread)

I'm not much into videogame activism or whatever you wanna call it such as the Bayonetta movement thing... Videogames are entertainment and that's that. But I really do not wanna see the eShop get overrun with crappy cheap mobile games. This Spikey Walls thing is just gross. The dev is trying to play it off like it's all a joke - haha what fun! It's a clone of a terrible game! What's the big deal!?

Don't support this dude or this lazy kind of game development. If this thing makes decent money it will incentivize developers to bring more garbage like this to the eShop instead of trying to take the time to make good games with you know... depth or originality. Home consoles are not mobile devices, let's not let them slide into that territory. Let's say you're bored and you happen to have a dollar to spend... Instead of buying this game go buy a deck of cards and play solitaire. It will be more satisfying. Seriously.

Just don't buy it folks.

I am going to buy it just because people are freaking out about it.

Well I wasn't going to buy it anyways, but I don't see why he shouldn't be allowed to sell it to those who want it. I haven't purchased anything from this developer as they aren't the type of games I enjoy. They seem to be very quick experiences that don't dive into deeper mechanics, which is something I don't want for my Wii U (honestly I might be more interested in some of their games on my 3DS)

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Bill has more important things to worry about than whether I buy SPIKEY WALLS, and so should you.. So get over it.

If cheap clones of cheap games isn't your thing, RCMADIAX also has Poker Dice Solitaire Future for just a buck 99

SkywardLink98

But it's only $0.99, and surely this is better than nothing!

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

No, you're not...

Shhhhh... I am making a point...

Okay you got me. I find this kind of pointless petition of a harmless game annoying.

I hate Crappy Bird so I won't be buying this. If Dahku closed doors after their two games, I don't see this guy doing a fortune out of this one. Even the Letter would be more successful because of the bad publicity.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

unrandomsam

I am going to buy it and the letter if I can. (Unlike lots of the ports that I just don't like I might find these funny).

The point is that Dahku has put months of work into their 2 dollar games, and if sales can't re-pay for those months of work you have to close.

People still think it's fair to have this load of crap on the eShop but it isn't. By releasing 0.99$ junk you simply devalue the products of other developers who put hard work into releases that fall in the same price category (0.99 - 2.99). The good thing about the eShop is that the average quality of games is pretty high - I don't think we want the eShop flooded with sh!*e.
The Wii was spoiled by a quantity of shovelware that made it less attractive, it can't happen again on WiiU.

Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...

I think the eshop already is full of rubbish.

Nano Assault Neo
Scram Kitty

Those are the only ones I think are good enough. (Port I would rather get it on another plafform cheaper - Then if I like it enough I would get it on Wii U presuming it was the best version there is).

3DS on the other hand I have about 60 eshop games and less than 10 are not absolute garbage.

It is a good thing Dahku is not going to publish games anymore than because their games were equivalent to phone games. Just because they put more work into the product does not make the product better or worth more.

Why are we so worried about little indie games anyway when publishers of AAA titles are the people really ripping us off? Most of them are not worth the price and are glorified button mashers with poorly written cut scenes to fill out the time.

Tastes will differ but I agree. The only indie games I really love on the wii u eShop are runner 2 and shovel knight. After buying many others that left me feeling less than impressed or bored, I am really hesitant to buy indie games, especially those at the 15 dollar price point. I am really hesitant to buy any game at any price point now.

@unrandomsam Nope. Nano Assault Neo is a fun SHUMPS. The only downside is that the game is extremely short. I bought it on sale for 7 bucks, but even at that price the content is still extremely lacking. However, calling it rubbish is unjust. Never played scram kitty so no comment.

What worries me more is your logic: you're willing to buy a game you know is going to be absolute crap just because is 0.99, but you're NOT going to buy a game that is going to be better for 1.99 or 2.99. "Better" might still not be good enough for you, but in the end of the day you have supported the crappy product and haven't supported a better product.

And yeah, AAA games producers are the ones ripping us off the most, so? That doesn't make smaller rip-offs less tolarable.

@unrandomsam taste is taste, but I could add to your list at least 6 or 7 games available on the eShop that are worth people's time and money. Of course you can get "ports" somewhere else for cheaper but not everybody has the luxury of having another system.

I'm largely in agreement that we need to consciously oppose lazy developers who are so obviously just trying to make a quick buck. Those aren't the people we should want in the industry. They contribute almost nothing of value and just clog up the space making it harder to find the good games. But I don't feel great about starting threads on a forum to try and persuade people not to buy things. In some sense, we need to let the market decide what is successful and what isn't. Or let Nintendo decide whether they're going to turn things down.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

Sorry I wasn't really clear, and i don't mean to argue. I was caught up in the argument. All I am really saying is that I don't think these smaller games are really hurting the eShop. I think Spikey Walls is at least honest that is clearly a clone of flappy bird. The Dahku games try to be more than they really can be. IF phone games are hurting the eShop than I think Dahku games are more to blame than RCMADIAX games.

I am not going to buy Spikey walls because I wouldn't play it much. I also think it should be priced at 30-50 cents. So I guess where we disagree is that I don't think these games hurt the eShop, especially if Nintendo curates the front page of the eShop like they have been doing, which I think is highlighting better games.

I don't think RCMADIAX games are a rip off because they are honest in their marketing. You know what you are getting.

In this argument that there's less than 10 games that are good on the eShop, I COMPLETELY DISAGREE! There's a nice selection of games!

1,001 Spikes
Armillo
BIT. TRIP RUNNER 2
Cubemen 2
EDGE
Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams
Guacamelee
Ittke Dew
Knytt Underground
Little Inferno
Master Reboot
Mutant Mudds
Nano Assault Neo
Scram Kitty and His Buddy On Rails
Shovel Knight
Spin the Bottle
Squids Odyssey
Steamworld Dig
Stick It To The Man
Swords & Soldiers
Toki Tori 2+
Trine 2
Unepic
XTYPE PLUS

And many more soon to come!

Don't you dare tell me that there's nothing but shovelware on the eShop. While there is a selection of bad games, there's quality in the eShop too and just because it's not "your taste" doesn't make it rubbish.
