Love wii u a lot, i play both first and third party. In the beginning wii u got a bunch of third parties. what is your take on 2014 and e3.

Wii U future of gaming.

DefHalan

Wii U can make a come back in 3rd Parties but not this year. This year is the year Nintendo needs to prove themselves and start supporting 3rd Party efforts

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

k thanks.

Wii U future of gaming.

It's gonna be hard not gonna lie, about a third of 3rd party developers don't want to waste their time with Nintendo because they know the console doesn't suit their games, the other third tried to make it on Nintendo consoles and failed so they just gave up, and the final third are just the developers who ride the Nintendo hate train.

It's an uphill battle.
There won't be much going for the Wii U this year third party wise. This really is the proving year. If Nintendo can move a large sum of boxes this year, the third parties will come back. Third parties don't want to waste time and money developing a Wii U version if they can't break even on it. That's business. If Nintendo sells a crap-ton of units, third parties will flock back and shoehorn their games onto the system if they have to since there is a dime to be made there.
Some third parties don't even want to compete with Nintendo's first party line up in the first place. The best you can do to ensure continued third party support from the few the Wii U has left is to buy the games. Support the release. Too many people complain about there being no third party games, yet they don't support what they are given. How can a business keep supporting something if they aren't making any money on it?

Not this gen, it's over with as far as third parties with the exception of sega and maybe capcom. They need to start making a lot of good first party games instead, because they can still possibly make a profit this gen and satisfy their fanbase like the gamecube did.

It can, yes.

Will it? Probably not.

Yeah, it will. Our heavy sales hitters for Wii U haven't even released yet

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

I'd be genuinely surprised if they don't, though let's be honest, some won't be interested unless they at least match PS4's current momentum/Wii's momentum (you know the one).

A slight comeback maybe, but I think it's too late for most of the AAA devs, they don't really want to develop games for a console with "inferior" graphics and a gimmicky controller.

I bet devs would jump at tge chance to make something with a unique controller. Publishers don't want to take a risk on a under preforming console

I've really enjoyed the Wii U and I'd like to say it will make a comeback, but nothing can be said for sure. It looks doubtful for third party support at this point but I'm going to keep supporting it either way.

Of course it's possible; lots of unpredictable things could happen and some predictable ones.

Predictable: Wii U sales increase on the back of Mario Kart 8, which is more likely than anything we know about outside of Zelda to drive a buying spree.

Unpredictable (or not): a contraction in revenue amongst big publishers because not enough people are jumping on the new Sony/MS consoles to justify continued development of big budget games in existing franchises. Studios are literally betting their futures on a handful of sequels. I have a feeling Ubisoft could be the next casualty of this emerging economic reality. Interesting times!

I'd be very surprised if E3 this year had some 3rd party developer throwing wii u a bone and gave them a token cross platform game honestly, I think wii u's 3rd party support from now on will likely be indie based, with the rest made up of nitendo IP that nintendo licenses to 3rd parties with the freak occurance of some odd original 3rd party only once in a while, at least that's what my home made crystal ball tells me.

As long as it can get a little help, I really don't even care too much. Like the Gamecube, I bought the Wii U for the first party titles. A select few games (Resident Evil 4, Tales of Symphonia, Viewtiful Joe, Phantasy Star, various Sega games) helped build the library into something special, but the majority of quality titles were first party Nintendo games.

Same thing is happening with the Wii U (Monster Hunter, Wonderful 101, Bayonetta, Xenoblade, Sonic to an extent) although I do hope this continues for the life of the console.

In my opinion, Nintendo doesn't need to go out and get a massive amount of third party help for their home consoles. The reason why I and most traditional gamer fans buy their consoles are for the first party games.

First of all, if majority of third party devs can't finish their own games, then why even bother asking Nintendo to request for some? Whenever I play games from Nintendo, they are always finished with glitches that don't really ruin the experience of playing the game.

If anything, third parties should learn from Nintendo and do what Nintendo does, make finished games.

After so long...I'm back. Don't ask why

but the number of people willing to buy a console only for Nintendo first party are a fraction of the market, that's precisely why the Wii U is not selling and the 3DS is, 3DS has third party support and Wii U doesn't....... I like some of Nintendo first party games but won't buy a console only for 2 or 3 games, I buy 3DS because in addition to the few Nintendo games I like it also has great third party exclusives

There are so many posts about how many Wii Us are sold. Seriously who cares? I don't give a poopoodoodocacapoo how many they sell. I just enjoy the games.

Wow, people are sugar-coating this answer.

Can Wii U make a comeback regarding third-party software? No. Anyone telling you otherwise is flat out lying. There will be a limited number of ports, and I'm sure there will be a few exclusives. But if you want to play third-party software then Wii U is a terrible choice of console and it's not going to just get better. Nintendo has the smallest install base, the most unique hardware to develop for, and the least powerful system on the market. For people playing the games, those facts might not matter. For third party developers, it makes a huge difference - especially when Nintendo tends to have a bad reputation among third parties anyway.

That doesn't mean that Wii U is "doomed" though. First party software alone will be enough over time to justify the Wii U for most gamers, as Nintendo consistently releases many of the best games every generation on their own. And indie developers seem to view Wii U as a viable platform so far, which will helpfully fill in the gaps between big Nintendo releases to some degree.

I'm not trying to be down on Wii U, but people need to be honest. Third party support for the system won't be anywhere near what PS4/XBone get - it won't even be what the Wii got when that console was leading install base by a sizable margin.

I think that's a realistic view on how the console is doing and how well it might do.

What people seem to forget is that the low(er) number of sales mean that the Wii U is in any way inferior to other gaming systems. I agree that it's not a good choice for people to play 3rd party games but why would it have to be? This is exactly why I love the Wii U. It doesn't want to be something it will never be. And while indie games are great there have been a lot of disappointments for me with AAA 3rd party titles. For me it's more important to be able to play the virtual console games and to keep the ecosystem backwards compatible than playing the latest Halo.

And in the end what matters most? Keeping your game library that's worth thousands of $ playable in the future or having to buy new hardware in a few years? Even as an investment it's a better choice.
