The Amiga is definately the greatest machine I never owned. Back when they were popular (the late 80's and early 90's) they were way too expensive for me to presuade my parents to buy one - however most of my friends had them so I did get the privilidge to at least play on them.

What are some of your fondest Amiga memories? Obviously there's the classics like Lemmings, Speedball 2, Monkey Island, Shadow of the Beast etc but it had such a vast library and there are tons of hidden gems for the machine.

Same situation here. I realy adore the Amiga, to this day, yet I never owned one. My parents would have never bought one for the gaming purpose (they did later a Windows 95 for "educational software") and I got "stuck" with my trusty C64 (a gift, from one of my dads colleges back then) and NES. One of my friends owned one, so I could play some of the great games.

Maybe I will buy one after I am off the university. I love old stuff like the C64, the SNES, the old GameBoy... but I am out of room.

I saw one for sale in GameStation I believe some time ago for £20 - was tempted but put it off and then it was gone. I'm shocked about the lack of response to this thread - I know it didn't take off in America but it was big in the UK. It's what most of us were playing instead of the NES (and rightly so - NES games cost around £40 wheras you could get most Amiga games for £7).

Nice - are you going to get it? I keep thinking, if I do ever get an amiga, where would I put it? I doubt it'd sit under my TV nicely alongside the Wii - it's kind of a desktop machine.

Still, I'm disappointed this thread didn't take off. I thought there were a lot of UK members here and the Amiga was probably the most popular machine of that era. Sigh - I'd have loved to have discussed the Turrican series, Ocean's film licences, crappy arcade conversions, the golden era of Psygnosis and those Bitmap Brothers classics...

Never had an Amiga. Never even used one. But I'd really like to see Amiga games come to the VC so I can play me some Cannon Fodder.

.... or something like that.

I doubt we'll see the Amiga on the VC. Whilst it was popular in the UK, I think it was pretty much unheard of in the states unlike the Commodore 64. Unfortunately I think Amiga games are going to die forever - there's probably a lot of licencing issues with bringing back most titles today.

I mean most of Ocean's games, for example, were based on film licences - I can't imagine the moment when a, now dead, company re-releases games based on Robocop, Platoon, Batman and Navy Seals.

Cannon Fodder made it to the GBC in a slimmer form, but also CF1 and 2 were on the PC (DOS.) A select few Amiga games made it over to us between console, handheld, and PC. Pinball Fantasies and PB Dreams came to the GB, SNES and PC DOS (and a few months ago PSN on Minis.) Turrican 1 and 2 made it over as 'Super' Turrican 1 and 2 on the SNES. Cannon Fodder made it to the SNES, not 100% sure stateside, but it did on PC and it's sequel too. I have to admit I'm not well familiar with Amiga's game roster, just know of a few and of that some that did make it into the states. The only one I have though is Cannon Fodder on GBC which I got last weekend (had it a decade ago and lost it due to hard times years ago.) I know there's more but the problem is I'm unsure what started there and went to Amiga, and there were a lot of 8bit/16bit era games that got moved over, some intact up to 256 colors, other modded to do it right but they exist. A long time ago I considered (decade ago+) emulating it out of curiousity but never did.
