I'm not denying that Kirby is popular. I know that much. Any Nintendo series is going to be popular...but does anyone else feel Kirby doesn't get enough recognition? Maybe it's because so many of his games came out on handhelds, or that he's often used as a test dummy (in good games, but still very experimented) but I just don't feel like this series gets enough love. There are SOOOO many great Kirby games out there.
(PS: Sorry if this is the wrong section to put this in, wasn't sure where it would fit best).

@Swiket Which one? To be fair, Nintendo does have many "smaller" franchises they don't necessarily "honor" in the way they do with Mario, Zelda, Kirby, and Pokemon (might be missing one or two here).

Kirby has some decent games and I enjoy them. I feel like they just make Kirby games easier Mario games, if you know what I mean. He's mainly been on the handhelds for the last little while for one reason or another. Because of his constant handheld presence, maybe he gets overlooked a bit.
He's slightly underrated... but not as underrated as some other members in the Nintendo family. Kirby got a 20th anniversary collection whereas Metroid has never had such a thing (those are the breaks of being the same age as Zelda, I guess. Maybe we'll get something for the 30th?).
exactly Kirby is FAR too underrated. ok it's really easy(except sometimes in the boss mode almost every Kirby game has) but almost every game is well done and fun

Sorry but I put this franchise in the overrated section personally, played far worse platformers don't get me wrong but I've just never seen the kirby games as anything more than average.
@CountWavula: The ultimate challenge I've found so far in Kirby was
As for me, I'm just about the biggest Kirby fan you can find! I have more fun and unique experiences with Kirby games than anything else. Kirby appeals to me far more than any other game franchise - it's like it was designed for me! I love all the character designs (especially the downright frightening final bosses) and the worlds and collecting and the interesting new gaming ideas they always like to try out (Mass Attack being a good example). I love Kirby so much! For me, at least, it is the best game series out there.
If it weren't for the fact that Kirby's Dream Land was my first video game that wasn't Tetris or Yogi Bear (...), I'd probably not be such a Kirby enthusiast. Anyways, Kirby's Return to Dream Land drew me back every day until it was 100% done while it felt like a chore to even see through the final world of many cherished platformers today. (Cough every NSMB cough). Perhaps it was a self-esteem building experience after Donkey Kong Country Returns though.

Underrated? I'm afraid I have to disagree with you. I enjoyed the Kirby games, but I don't think they're underrated. I got Epic Yarn almost a year ago now (I was playing it with cousins on Christmas Day last year) and I haven't played it in awhile. Heck, I don't know if I've played it since I got it. Same about Super Star and the original.
@SkywardLink98 sincerely I think Epic Yarn is overrated but just because it isn't a Kirby game, it's another game using a "Kirby Skin"

As a Kirby fan, I have to chime in, because this touches on something that I've been noticing lately. Kirby, and quite a lot of what Nintendo does, suffers from misunderstandings.
Kirby is chicken soup for the gaming soul!
Kirby games are fun, comforting, dare I say... cute. The series, and it's spin-offs have always targeted the heart. The audience that appreciates those things, realize that Nintendo knows this, and keeps the Kirby experience rooted in those ideals. As a fan, I thank them for that.
Nintendo could change the formula, alienate the core fans, and probably get universally slammed for 'changing too much'. But what for? You're either a fan, or you're not. There are plenty of other platformers out there. You don't have to like the Kirby games.
You can apply this argument to Nintendo's over-all values and ethics. Which I applaud them for. The same ones that they're bashed for on a continual basis on the internet. The misunderstanding is that they're not going to change things to suit the vocal minority. They do what they do, and they keep it pure. You have other choices if you want it another way.
Ennyhoo, I really don't think Kirby is underrated per se, and last gen we got an amazing collection, and two fantastic console games, not to mention the insane amount of love he's had on the hand helds. I will say, I'd really like to see a Kirby U game, though.
