I love my Nintendo Switch, but now I'm thinking of buying a PS4 Pro or Xbox One S. A local game shop has them both on sale second hand of course and the PS4 Pro goes for the equivalent of $110 including a controller and the Xbox One S goes for the equivalent of $90 including a controller and 4 games. Now I'm not a big fan of either the Xbox or Playstation, Nintendo has my favorite games which. However I also own a nice big 4K TV and a nice sound system and unfortunately the Switch is not that powerful. I'm not going to buy the Switch 2 just yet, because so far the game line-up doesn't appeal to me and until it does I'm not going to get a Switch 2 just to play Switch 1 games. I also never buy a console at launch I always wait 1-2 years before taking the plunge, I bought two consoles at launch the Dreamcast with my first paycheck ever and the Wii U and I regret both. The PS4 Pro supports 4K and the Xbox One S does some 4K upscaling, but except for The Last of Us 1+2, Halo and God of War there is nothing on there that I really like. The PS4 Pro is also very loud and the Xbox is not really 4K. So basically the only reason why I'm considering getting one of these it's because it's cheap, more powerful than my Switch and I want to see how it would look like on my TV. I should just wait for the Switch 2, which will eventually have a new Zelda, a new 3D Mario and hopefully much more. So should I scratch this itch and get one of these or just stick with my Switch and eventually get the Switch 2.
@UndeadWarrior86 Ultimately you've just got to decide if the handful of games you're interested in playing are worth the asking price. Personally I'd be more inclined to just save that money towards the Switch 2. I built my first gaming PC last year. It's pretty high end and I have a nice fancy 4K OLED monitor and all that but I wouldn't say it's enhanced my gaming life that much over when I was Switch only. If anything I've actually been surprised by how few games there are that I'm interested in and haven't already played on Switch. Mostly just small indie stuff.
$110 for a PS4 Pro is a fantastic price. The console has a massive library as well, so I'd suggest looking closer at the games that are available for it.
Currently Playing: Resident Evil Village: Gold Edition
@UndeadWarrior86 Switch2 supports 4K I believe... and ultimately I've heard it described as more-or-less a 'portable PS4' in terms of horse-power.
What games do you wish to play on PS4/XB1? Some great titles are already confirmed to port, Street Fighter 6 / Elden Ring / Cyberpunk etc.... RDR2 is rumoured for later.
I honestly think you'd be better off saving the money and then trading your switch in for Switch2.
Existing S1 games will also get S2 updates, eg TOTK/BOTW - - > 60fps and upscaling.
Or alternatively, XBOX SeriesS would be a better middle-ground investment. SeriesS isn't that expensive, and a Gamepass sub would net some of the most exciting games upcoming as Day1 (the new Doom for instance)
@UndeadWarrior86 Series S for $90 is a no brainer especially if you get a Gamepass subscription. With the subscription you could play games like Indiana Jones, Avowed, Madden 25, Forza Horizon 5, Black Ops 6, Doom Dark Ages Day one and alot more games for just $20 and then cancell when you want. Instead of shelling out $70 per game like you would have to for PS5 for games like Indy, Forza Horizon 5, and others. Plus you also have access original Xbox games and Xbox 360 games which are always cheap so if there are any game like The Gears franchise that you missed are want to check out you can.

@BenAV I think you're right it will probably not enhance my gaming experience at all and will most likely remain untouched and collect dust.
@Ralizah It is a good price, but someone else will probably enjoy it more than I.
@CJD87 The Switch 2 will have 4K support, but I'll have to wait and see what that will look like. I saw some footage from Cyberpunk in docked mode and it did not look too good to me. I don't have a lot of faith in 3rd party AAA games running smoothly on Switch 2 at least not for me. Like some people really love The Witcher 3 on Switch and to me it looked absolutely horrible and completely unplayable. Luckily for me my favorite games are Nintendo exclusives which run and loom great most of the time. To me the Xbox Series S is already too expensive to justify buying out of curiosity. My entire reason to consider buying the PS4 Pro or Xbox One S was, because it was fairly cheap.
I will just stick with my lovely Switch and wait until at least a new Zelda and new 3D Mario launches on Switch 2 before I upgrade. The PS4, Xbox One and Xbox Series S simply don't have enough games that I like.
@Tasuki It's not a Series S that's $90, it's a Xbox One S. Gamepass is indeed pretty interesting and offers good value, but not for me.
By the way I love your profile picture.
Why not save up and buy a ps5 or a series x? Both are BC and you can play current games.

@UndeadWarrior86 Sorry, my bad I miss read that. I honestly would pass on the Xbox One S and just save up for a Series S but if Gamepass isn't worth it for you then might as well just wait for Switch 2. And thank you.

OP you can save your money and buy one of the current consoles. They can play all your games. Another thing the third-party games you may want will be cheaper on the other platforms. Especially on Xbox.
You gotta expand, brother. Don't be so close minded. You're missing out on some games on the other consoles.
@UndeadWarrior86
Get PS5 Fat (the used machine for cheaper price) and you can play both PS4 & PS5 games.
A little bit expensive than PS4 Pro but PS5 Fat is way more quieter and powerful enough to boost PS4 games performance from 30 fps to 60 fps.
About the games, you can consider games you have never played before.
There are tons of 3rd party games you can choose on PS4 / PS5 such as Yonder the Cloud Catcher Chronicles, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, Story of Seasons / Harvest Moon games, Megaman games, Gravity Circuit, Portal Knights, Dragon Quest Builders 1 & 2, Kingdom Hearts games (1.5 + 2.5 + 2.8 + 3), Epic Chef, Dodgeball Academia, Oceanhorn 2, Nexomon + Nexomon Extinction, Cat Quest games, Moving Out games, Overcooked games, Smurfs games, LEGO CITY UNDERCOVER, Kao the Kangaroo, Cooking Mama, Override 1 & 2, The SIMS 4, etc.
I played those 3rd party games on my PS4 & PS5 machines and I like the diversity genre on PS4 & PS5.
Side notes, I only play kids games with very few of rated Teen games since I only play games that still look appropriate enough to watch.
I never like AAA games that almost all of them are 18+ games as i hate inappropriate games with strong violence, bloody stuffs, profanity, explicit sexual, crime, horror, etc, neither I care with them.
Currently, I have more than 70 PS4 games & more than 30 PS5 games in physical so far and will keep going bigger.
@TimelessJubilee I'm a parent and don't have enough free time to play. The games that I like on Playstation and Xbox are big commitment games. I can't start something like The Last of Us and play just every once in a while for 30 minutes.
@Anti-Matter I love LEGO CITY UNDERCOVER I own and played it on Switch.
@WaveBoy Everything you describe about your PS5 is how I feel about these other consoles. I will just wait for the Switch 2.
@UndeadWarrior86
Honestly if you're going to a Nintendo forum asking this question you are fishing for a specific answer. You know what you want. Also my general philosophy with this kind of thing is to just get the thing you want. When you try to save money by getting the stop-gap solution what often happens is that you end up not being happy with the imperfect solution and end up getting both anyways. So given you're asking here hold out for Switch 2 would be my suggestion
In terms of performance. Yes, I would say that broadly Switch 2 can be comparable to both XBone and PS4. But comparable in the sense that they're within the same "power generation". Switch 2 will generally have a better output because it is generally a better performing and more modern piece of hardware. If you want a better visual experience on your nice TV I would go with Switch 2. Without any hesitation
Same deal with the software library. PS4/XBone are end of life, they have a bigger library now sure but they're also not really going to get that many more games. Switch 2 on the other hand is relatively powerful, relatively modern and I suspect will sell fairly well. I don't think you will be short on options for games
