As for hackers figuring out how to emulate PS2 games on the PS3, I wish. Last time I checked, no one had figured it out yet. Seems Sony's actually ahead of the game.

It's got nothing to do with the lack of ability of hackers, or Sony's diligence. The PS3 lacks the actual hardware to run PS2 games. Different architectures. The reason PS2 compatibility was removed from the console is that Sony was trying to pull costs down by removing the 'unnecessary' hardware that allowed PS2 emulation.

I didn't think anyone was talking about retail games.

They were talking about hackers figuring out how to run PS2 games on PS3

I wonder, wouldn't haxorz have figured out that the PS3 is capable of running PS2 games by now if it were so?

I explained why that wasn't going to happen.

y2josh

I thought that meant by downloading it and playing it however those hackers already do all the other downloadable games. Because I don't think they can do that with PS2 games.

Yeah, we're talking about emulation here, the hackers don't seem to have gotten that far yet, while Sony has, and no one knows how or why.

Do we know these PS2 games are the exact, original PS2 code?

I'm not talking about HD remakes or anything, but is is possible that the original PS2 game's code has been tweaked to make it playable on PS3 hardware?

This is coming from a programming dunce, but that's one way I could see it working for Sony, but not for the hackers.

Sorry, the Uncharted 3 multiplayer got an early release, so that's why you're seeing people on your Friends List playing it.

@odd Dude, I've been anticipating Dungeon Defenders release for a LONGTIME!

And, I'm super stoked for getting both Odin Sphere and Maximo. Both of those gamers are extremely fun, especially Maximo, which should have been a much bigger hit than it was.

Dungeon Defenders looked really sluggish when I watched the announcement trailer, but if they work that out it could be a lot of fun.

And Maximo was awesome. I wish I could get it, but I already have the PS2 version in great condition.

I was referring to your comment where you said something like "didn't pick this one up day-one" or whatever.

So, I wasn't planning on it, but I ended up with a copy of Dark Souls (a friend talked me into it last night). XD Haven't played it yet, though.

In light of Sony's new awesome PSN promotion (Only On Playstation Network), a bunch of kickass and underrated PS2 exclusives have become available in the PSN. I saw a comment above regarding emulation so I'm guessing everyone is in the know here. The 2 games I'm looking at are God Hand and Odin Sphere. Does anyone care to sway me one way or the other? I only have 10 bucks left on my PSN account, so I'll only be getting one for now.

On a side note, I'm really happy to see the PSN pushing games like these as well as drawing attention to their exclusive titles. In light of 2DBoy's indie dev poll, it seems like the indies are moving away from both Microsoft and Nintendo, so this could begin a very sweet chapter in the life of the PSN. Color me excited.

I have Odin Sphere, God Hand, Maximo, and GrimGrimoire for the PS2. I recommend all of them. I never played the Konami mech game that is also available. God Hand is probably my favorite of the bunch and it's also the hardest out of them, which is saying a lot because Maximo is also very hard. There's not really a game like it, it's one of a kind. It's also the most ridiculous game I've ever played and makes No More Heroes and Killer 7 look normal. Odin Sphere is a beautiful RPG with multiple characters to play as and definitely worth getting as well. It will keep you entertained for hours. I would say get God Hand first, then Odin Sphere. If you like Odin Sphere, then pick up GrimGrimoire sometime. It's more of a real-time strategy game and less of a RPG but it's just as beautiful as OS. If you liked the Ghouls and Ghosts/Ghosts and Goblins series, Maximo would be right up your alley because it's essentially a 3D version of those games.

@Mickeymac Head to Movemodo and you can find the newest trailers. The game has shaped up nicely over the last year. I also did an interview with the developer if you care to check it out:

I'm really stoked to see the PS2 games on PSN. I don't care about trophies and all that too much anymore; what I do care about is if I'll be able to play these games on my Vita!

Oh, I've got an upcoming Feature wrapped up and scheduled at Movemodo. It's way different than anything that we've had on any of our sites and I think you guys will really like it. If you don't laugh or crack a smile at this one, then you've got a strange sense of humour indeed!

@Strofan I know, the irony is all but overwhelming!

Crysis is great! Totally worth the $20 asking price.

@SilentJ OMG! I swear I got chill-bumps watching that! Haha

Wait til' you see all the PS3 references in the video, as IGN has found everything!!!
MUST SEE!
[youtube:J4r7iprkngw]

The sheer amount of stuff packed into this video is insane! The first time you watched it, did you see Sweet Tooth's Ice Cream Truck? What about the Portal and the girl jumping through it? Did you see the MLB 2011 reference, or the Agent from Hitman? What about the quick glimpse of Ratchet? You've gotta watch this video to get the full effect of how awesome this commercial truly is! Also, all the voices in the video are from the games voice actors too.
