That's another thing, how is it coming out so soon?? Could they possibly not be doing a dub at all and just subbing cutscenes? Makes sense, that would be cheaper, faster, and everyone who is going to buy this would most likely see Japanese language as a plus (and there is absolutely no way this game is marketable so any sales they get will come from people who already know about it, therefore dubbing it for the average gamer is pointless).

I believe that turned out just to be a boosting lobby.

Regarding Catherine, this game better not suck. The last really weird Japanese game I got excited for was Killer 7, the developers of which forgot to add quality gameplay. As a result I'm a bit leery of anything too crazy.

definitely gonna wait on Catherine...possibly forever. I feel the exact opposite way about it as I did about Heavy Rain when I saw it advertised.

Famitsu liked it... but I'm really wondering how well that game is going to translate for a Western audience.

I suspect Catherine won't. What I've seen of it suggests that its a very, very Japanese experience.

So is Persona 3 and 4, which are some of the best games the PS2 has to offer. But this game doesn't take place in Japan though, so the lack of Japanese culture should smooth things over.

Really looking forward to playing Catherine! I actually hope that is is just English dubbed myself. I prefer my anime imported and English dubbed only as well though.

Persona 3 and 4 were reasonably universal - sure they were quirky, but framed within a context and a game that almost everyone understands.

Catherine, on the other hand, is a game that addresses Japanese culture and a weirdness that will resonate to Japanese. I don't know if that will translate.

It's not the setting that's the issue. It's the themes, and the way those themes are meant to be understood and interpreted. I'm not sure the West and Japan are in an accord when it comes to Catherine's themes. I could be wrong, but I'm betting on this game to be so niche it barely registers.

This game was lightyears ahead of its time...seriously. Just played the first hour and a half and it has one of the best gameplay systems ever. Anyone, everyone, this is one of the most genuinely original PS1 games period. The textures may be low-res, but the cutscenes are mind-blowing (and it's only 90mb!!!) Still in old-game-rediscovery-shellshock. It's a good thing.

Absolutely. we've had this game in Aus for a while, and I've played it through a couple of times. Love the game, also can't believe its only 90 MB. Just shows how much space voice acting and FMV takes up, huh?

Quoted for truth. Considering that voice acting has this nasty quality of making written words seem cheesier, I must say I find the omission for the better. The cutscene direction is out of this world--if it weren't for the framerate and texture depth I'd swear I was playing a PS2 game.

I'm amazed Atlus is actually taking the risk on Catherine in America. It does indeed look like it would appeal to an even smaller niche than most of their fare. I'm not even particularly convinced I'm interested.

No voice acting in Vagrant Story? Yeah, that definitely explains the file size. Well, that and I'm guessing there's not too many pre-rendered cutscenes and/or backdrops, either. All of which is perfectly fine with me if the game's good. Haven't tried it yet, though I did download it last night.

@Waltz: Isn't the theme something like drunken affairs and fear of commitment and such? I'm pretty sure you can find that anywhere in the world. Though I'll admit I don't know too much about the game, as the fact that it's made by the Persona 4 team is all I need to know to make my decision of whether or not I should buy it.
