@Tsurii Actually, the post talking about the removal of blood flashes got flooded with downvotes and my reply (along with several others) got lots of upvotes: https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHunter/comments/6nmyoh/blood_...
It's not as polarizing as you make it out to be.

Few people actually dislike Gen; it's a vocal minority. Plenty of people are still disappointed about the lack of an XX localization; there's just nothing more to be said at this point.

People have called out Adam on his s***-- heck, I personally PM'd him when he started throwing around the FOV excuse on twitter again (it was debunked: 4U and Gen have the same FOV, Gen's larger UI just makes it look smaller). Virtually every single one of his complaints about XX can be thrown right back at 4U (G-rank Hypers are HP sponges? Hello 140 GQ monsters! Deviants too tedious to grind? Apex is worse in every regard.). It's a combination of him shilling World and antihyping XX that caused him to lose my subscription.

And yes, he did do some post-launch XX coverage. He's unable to recognize that he's fatigued with 4th gen after extensively covering all four games (he started on tumblr going over moveset changes in 4 and writing guides for all the weapons) while the West's only gotten two of them. He's being a hypocrite and making himself look plain pathetic (around X's launch he made tweets literally saying "this is the best MH game to date there's no way I can go back to 4U").

@Joeynator3000 Except there's only vague similarities. They took a couple basic concepts and executed them very differently. Frontier's a whole different beast, an example of vastly divergent evolution. X was a natural evolution-- pretty much everything that had been there stayed there, being built on top of. World is revolutionary-- changing and removing things seemingly for the sake of it.

For some potentially good news: it seems that the PS4 exclusive content isn't actually a thing. Latter press releases have said that World "has content that would only be possible on PS4"-- they're likely just bragging about the hardware jump rather than Destiny-style "we're taking a portion of the content and locking it to one system".

According to Gajinhunter the JPN twitter account keeps tweeting about and teasing the PS4-exclusive content. I wouldn't worry about it though. Especially for a series that has been single system-exclusive with each individual release (besides I guess 3U), it's not going to be anything huge like a monster or weapon type. It'll probably be something pre-order-level like Sony-themed weapon skins, dumb like a Nathan Drake costume or — god forbid — a Crash skin.

The Monster Hunter team has been really good at crossovers though, making specifically a Prime-style Varia Suit Samus and a Skyrward Sword and Breath of the Wild champion's tunic Link with specifically the ancient bow. So maybe we could get something cool like a Cordeceps-themed armor suit or dual blades / other weapons that look like Kratos' weapons.

@DarthNocturnal Perhaps car jpegs with billboarding put over all of the blimps for Forza? But seriously, I would be down for some Halo skins (I kinda doubt it though since Sony got the announcement). Something like an energy sword long sword would be awesome though. I would love to see the lighting and round slash with that.

Someone taped the whole SDCC panel. Watch it before it gets taken down maybe.

Some highlights from the leaked presentation:

  • Great Jagras' core design was based off of a bigger Jagras (bosses that relate to their hench-monsters like this are my favorite).
  • Anjanath's core design was based off of the concept of a feathered dinosaur (hence his T-rex skeleton).
  • The Ancient Forest map concept was one of the first things the team worked on for World, and it is one of the first fields in the game. They mapped out high and low humidity zones which became the preferred habitat for the predators and herbivores respectively. Anjanath and Rathalos wouldn't meet regularly given their separate zones and elevations on the map.
  • The team visited Australia to concept the plant life, there are a lot of pieces in art in the presentation.
  • The team visited a reptile zoo to learn how to animate reptilian monsters in World
  • (So maybe a lot of dragons? I really get the feeling that Anjanath and Felynes won't be the only place we'll be seeing fur. It's about to get The Last Guardian up in here.)
  • Hunters can fire nuts from the slinger to stampede Aptonoth, which in turn are a constant draw for monsters like Great Jagras. That's next level. I can't wait to see if Rathalos and the as of yet unseen monsters haul their prey up into the sky or not.

Fur shader, and giant alligator DLC.

I think we glossed over it, but World adds sloped ground which 4 never had except in a few areas. Now the inclines can be steep and span entire areas. It'll be interesting to see how the new knockback physics work with these — maybe some fights will be really steep with the hunter just trying to hold on in what is clearly the flying monster's territory.

And of course there's the slide which hunters can use going down inclines — every action game has to have one. I like the expanded range of movement — I wonder if it'll take the place of dodge rolls or sprinting when facing down a hill. So far we know that every weapon will have a leaping attack from a slide akin to how everyone got an aerial strike. I wonder if any attack button press throws the hunter into this leap, or if they can just attack from a slide and keep going.

There's also a vault shown in the trailer that looks automatic while running. Perhaps to deal with fallen trees without just saying 'walk around.'

Ah... nothing like trying to argue Fates isn't crap and Echoes isn't perfect on the Monster Hunter sub.
Damn this really is the Awakening of the series.

@Tsurii Sub = subreddit. The most unreasonable FE fans are the ones outside the fandom, in my experience.

It happened on a post I've got going where people are discussing their critiques and fears of the game: https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHunter/comments/6pirqg/concer...
It's actually been a pretty good discussion overall.

Now onto all the new armor sets shown as most of them should correspond to new monsters. For starters, the charge axe trailer confirms Rathian will be in. That's the only returning armor set / monster I've noted and should be expected as both Rathalos and Rathian are in every Monster Hunter game.

Untitled

The hunter in the dual blades trailer is wearing a strange indigo armor that's almost reminiscent of Nakarkos' astral set. Similarly, the switch axe trailer hunter is garbed in strange blue caped knight armor with insect-like feelers stretching back from his brow. My guess for these two would be that they relate to two new aquatic monsters, though of course underwater has been confirmed to be absent from World so the fights would have to take place on land. They could also be from something along the lines of bioluminescent cave creatures.

The light bow gun and hunting horn hunters are garbed in two different armor sets (the blademaster / gunner division is gone in this game so it isn't just two versions of the same monster's set) with a lot of fluffy white fur. At this point it seems safe to say that we have an ice area.

There is also a tan armor with a midriff, feather details on her glaive and, a veil covering the insect glaive hunter's mouth that's pretty evocative of a desert. The gunlance hunter is wearing thick plate mail armor that looks like something you would craft from Tetsucabra. The other armors that I didn't think to remark on are at the bottom of this album I made for World.

@Joeynator3000 No, these are just showing the weapon combos. If you want new monsters check back in in a month at Gamescom, but they did play what was probably either the Ancient Forest or Great Jagras theme over all of the videos. And like I said above, Rathian and a snow area are more than likely now. A desert seems to be implied by the armor sets too.

Yeah I knew they were showcasing weapons, but they usually show off different monsters for all of them.

@Bronze I care, thanks for linking them. It's nice to see the little weapon explanations even if they don't explain all of the new moves.

Just watching the insect glaive trailer again, it has unique animations for the air dodges dependent on whether glaive is in front of or behind the hunter when they hit the button. And they're all so fluid... This feels like how the insect glaive was always meant to be.

The other thing I love about the glaive is how the glowy bits are purple and not that ugly shade of neon green. Maybe you can change the color in World. Either way, I'm thinking of devoting some time to the weapon in world. I just hope the main animations feel satisfying.
