After playing through No Man's Sky again, I was quickly reminded about the next big game from developer Hello Games. Some of the tech being used in LNF were shown in the last couple or few NMS updates. The first teaser trailer was back in 2023. Is LNF just a swords'n'sorcery variant of NMS, or something more?

Either way, I'm onboard on day one.

The game looks utterly amazing to me and I guess its a procedurally generated version of Skyrim really. The fact there is a whole world to explore, Earth size is hard to believe but then that is the benefit of being procedurally generated I guess. However I totally get that keeping gameplay sharp and diverse is difficult with procedurally generated games but still I just want to dive straight in and explore.

However you wonder if the Switch 2 will be able to pull off such a game without huge compromises. It feels like an experience best played on powerful PC handhelds plus normal PCs, PS5 and Xbox Series X and maybe just maybe Xbox Series S which does have a lot of CPU resources but more limited memory. Xbox sales seem to be declining a lot and you wonder if Xbox will be relevant when the game releases.

I do not.

I would likely play this on Playstation, as that's where most of my friends play.

PS5, PS6 more likely, as that console is only a couple or few years away.

I must admit I question this too as the Switch 2 is competitive with regard graphics as it can generate low resolution graphics which are upscaled brilliantly but the very low CPU resources of the Switch 2 surely will have a big impact on this game and mean huge cut backs. Thinking of the original Switch version of No Mans Sky the essence of the game was there and it was hugely impressive considering the Switch hardware but it didn't feel like the full experience of the game to be honest. It sort of felt like an android port of the game and you wonder why Hello Games didn't port the game to android and IOS too which have similar performance levels for mid to high end phones and tablets. Anyway I feel they will do a simplified version for weaker hardware as they normally make it pretty scalable. It won't be a full fat experience but it will get the job done and of course give the game portability that PS5/6 and Xbox One X won't have.
