Topic: Gophermods has finished with my PS3

Unfortunately, they said my console (a 60 gb model) was unrepairable. I had the blinking light syndrome that starts with the console going from green>yellow>flashing red lights. I was only offered what seemed to be a generic response saying "It falls into a small category of the 5-10% of Playstations that are unrepairable due to the fact console's initial heat damage was too extreme to be repaired by any method'. They are refunding me minus the shipping cost to return the defective unit though. Just now I'll be saving for the swapping method Sony offers. I was hoping to retain my data but now that I know it's impossible, I might as well do the exchange for a slim model.

I've heard the system is usually FUBAR once that happens. A lot of online places say they can fix them, but I don't know how many are successful.

Would anyone recommend a slim PS3 as refurbished over new? Plus does anyone know of another place that fixes PS3 system? Thanks.
