Topic: Final Fantasy: VC or PSP?

Ok, so I found Final Fantasy I: Anniversary edition quite cheap and I'm just asking if anyone would recommend it or should I buy the NES version when it comes out on VC?

PSP, for the sheer fact that it's portable. Then Final Fantasy 2, Tactics, FF7, and Crisis Core. All decent PSP games. I didn't much care for FF7 on the PS1 (gasp!), but having it portable made ALL the difference for me and now I think it's a pretty swell game.

There's something to be said for being able to play a nice game in the car, in the doctor's office, on your lunch break at work, etc. then just flip the power button to "pause" it until it's convenient to restart it again.

Ok, but in the same store I found FFVII: Crisis Core for the same price. Is that game better than FFI? I've always wanted to try tht game too but I didn't have the money till now. So if I were to choose between FFI and FFVII:CC,which game should I buy?

That depends on your view of FFVII. If you lean towards "OMG FFVII BEST RPG EVAR IT WAS MY FIRST LULZ", then Crisis Core would probably be more to your liking.

However, if you have played any Final Fantasys between 1 and 6 and enjoyed them more than FFVII, and if you're looking for a nice remake of the game that started it all, I'd say go with FF1. The only problem is the length of the game, it may or may not be worth it compared to Crisis Core, though I haven't played Crisis Core so I don't know how long it will last compared to FF1.

Well, I don't like FF1 or 2 because they are total grind-fests, but if you must get 1 go PSP because this way you can play the game while watching TV or something to actually entertain you.

Also, get Crisis Core. Let me tell you, I was largely disappointing with FFVII, but Crisis Core is epic. It's at least 5x better than VII. It's a fun action-RPG on a portable with a ton of sidequests to keep you occupied, and quite possibly the best JRPG ending ever (I was actually crying. It's very rare that actual tears are shed when I play a game).

Awesome! When I finally get a PSP this month I'll have to crack open Crisis Core! (I really haven't heard too much about the game, actually)

I thought Final Fantasy VII was a great RPG but I wouldn't go as far to say ITZ TH3 B35T GAM3H EVAR!!111!!2!(I wouldn't even say it's the best Final Fantasy game). It's a hard decision but I think I'll buy CC so I can finally leave FFVII and enjoy other great RPGs,including FFI!

The PSP version of FF1 is one of the absolutely worst releases of the game, killing abosultely every aspect of entertainment it had. The GBA version is awful, too. If you want to play FF1, either wait for the VC release, or track down Final Fantasy Origins for the PSX - THAT was a good remake.

@Adamant- Why do you feel the ds and psp versions were bad?

The core gameplay got completely revamped (supposedly "updated") in ways that just don't work with the game, with new items, a new magic system, altered monster stats and tons of other changes that adds and changes stuff to be "more liek the later games in the series" in an attempt to appeal to fans of these. In the process, it kills the strategic elements and battle system from the original, the most important part of the game, in order to appeal to people who only like plot-heavy RPGs with involving battle systems and next to no sort of challenge getting in the way of what they find fun... and that's fine, let them liek what they do, but they won't like this version of FF1 EITHER, since it doesn't have any of the elements they want from their games apart from "you can't die".
Guh. Horrible. The only people I can see saying they like this are rabid Final Fantasy fanboys who like everything with the FF license just because of the name, and they'd buy and love this regardless of what I told them.

I quite enjoyed it. If I'm going to spend twenty - thirty hours playing an RPG with random battles, then it better have nice graphics to look at at least. Don't get me wrong, I am not a graphics whore, but with something as long and involving as an RPG, I do like to have nice graphics. I never played the NES game so any shortcomings the PSP version has are lost on me since I can't compare it to the original.

I too enjoyed the Final Fantasy I and Final Fantasy II PSP releases.

I'd go portable for sure...I didn't play the psp version, but I played all of the GBA/DS versions and enjoyed them immensely. You can get a copy of FF 1/2 for the GBA for 10 bucks or so...if you have a GBA or DS, I'd recommend that...and VI is by far the best...I played it for the first time 3 months ago and it is better than most rpg's made since then.

For those of you who DID enjoy it, what exactly did you see in it? I can't see any aspect of the game as appealing to any king of RPG fan?
The plot? It's barely there.
The characters? Even less there than the plot.
The exploration and dungeon design? While not bad, they're not overly interesting either, and there's never any sense of danger since you can kill everything in one hit.
The battle system? "Press A a lot and watch stuff die". Uninteresting, and can be done in other, better games, anyway.
So, what is it?

Really, if you haven't played the original FF1, or the PSX remake (which, for you graphic whores out there, looks just like the GBA versions), do so. It's disgusting how unfaithful this "remake" is - it barel qualifies as an empty shell of the amazing original.
