At last count, EA's free-to-play racer Need for Speed World had garnered more than 5 million users. The publisher is hoping some of those users have deep pockets because the latest premium car for the online racer does not come cheap.

EA today announced that the Koenigsegg CCX "Elite" Edition, the first "premium elite" car to hit Need for Speed World, is now available in the in-game store for $100. For those who feel that's a bit pricey, it is currently on sale for $75 through December 21.

Oh my goodness! Some thing similar happened in EVE Online. In a recent expansion pack, you were able to buy some accessories as actual purchases, and some of those items were literally over $50! $60-80 for cool looking shirts! I think over $100 for some elegant head wear
Don't know if it's still there...

Sounds like a fair deal to me. Who needs that $2, DLC, 150 mph, hovercraft, legendary, luxury, sports hot-rod in Burnout Paradise anyway?

The real question is: what's more ridiculous, the fact that this exists, or the fact that some people will actually buy it?

The second part. As long as the consumers continue to buy this type of craziness, the companies will continue to supply it.

I'd say EVE is different. Digital real estate can go for some real cash if you play the market well.

It's disgusting that they keep doing crap like this.

It's not just EA! Activision's CEO is all for $100+ game's like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, where people are willing to pay for the game and then for expensive monthly/yearly fee's to play. Modern Warfare 3 Elite was a trial run for this and people broke the system trying to spend their extra $60 for it!

....I hate addictive gaming! If only these people knew they were possibly screwing themselves in the long run, by proving that they will spend extreme prices to play these game's. The bad thing is it will trickle down into all aspects of gaming if it does take-off - which is highly doubtful IMO.
