Amazon's cloud gaming platform, which I normally wouldn't have given the time of day...

Until I realized that Prime members get to play a rotating selection of games for "free" (this month is Control, Steel Assault, Myst, & Garfield Kart: Furious Racing), so I figured that I could try it out and not be out of anything. This is really something they need to advertise more.

First Impressions:

Phone - the app isn't officially supported on my phone model so I had to sideload it from the Luna website. That being said it actually seems to work fine on my home internet (haven't tried out & about yet). Trying to control anything with the virtual gamepad is a nightmare, however I have a controller grip that connects directly into my phone (that I bought when I was testing out Game Pass last year), that is a vast improvement.

Tablet - I have a Fire tablet, so getting it up & running was no more difficult than simply downloading the app from Amazon's app store. Again, seemed to work fine on my home internet. Virtual controls are even worse due to the more cumbersome nature of holding a larger device. However, AFAIK you can connect any Xbox or PS4 controller via Bluetooth which are fully compatible (same for playing on phone if you don't have a grip). PS5 controllers aren't fully supported yet though, from what I've heard.

TV - The app wasn't available on my TCL brand Roku TV upstairs, & I've yet to check the LG TV in the living room. It's apparently only available on certain Samsung TVs at the moment.

So if you have the means to access the app & already have an existing Prime account it can't hurt to check it out.

I've heard of this, but I've never figured out how to actually play the games (same with Netflix's game service). Never been too bothered, though, since I have more than enough on Switch.

I think the ease of getting it up and running depends on what sort of device you're using. If you have an Amazon Fire tablet or Fire TV Stick it's just as easy as downloading the app via the app store & signing in.

Things get more difficult from there if you're using another device, even if it is technically supported (I imagine I had to sideload the app on my phone due to the same politics that keep the official YouTube app off of Fire tablets. Google vs Amazon = Stadia vs Luna, etc.).

That said I completely get it. It's an interesting curio once you get it up & running, but I doubt it's going to pull my attention away from Xenoblade Chronicles 3 in any meaningful way.

Google already knows everything I say and do so I support Stadia (I've never used it in my life or gone on the website)

I do own a Fire tablet and have done some gaming on it, it hurts your hand after a while.

Amazon is the only company that i think can do a gaming streaming service besides XBOX that will work.

This is only useful for those that have Amazon Prime already, a nice bonus per se. 😁

But what's a good internet speed to actually stream games without lag on any gaming streaming service?

Game on. 🤘 Rock on. 🎸

September games Prime members play free:

  • Everspace
  • Hot Wheels Unleashed
  • Yooka-Laylee & the Impossible Lair
  • Riptide GP Renegade
  • Earthworm Jim
  • Ys IX: Monstrum Nox

Honestly a pretty good selection here. Really wanna play Ys IX, but I doubt I'd be able to finish it within the month.
