Topic: Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition

@Quarth Yeah I own and tried to play the 3DS version... But the game just doesn't work on that size screen for me.

I loved my 3DS for other games but this was one I couldn't do on the system.

@Heavyarms55 I actually sold my old 3DS and bought the "New" model, just to be able to play XC. But yeah, even though I managed to play and beat the game back then, I don't know if I would go back to play it again on the 3DS after experiencing the Definitive Edition.

@Quarth I actually did the same - but I also assumed the "new" model would have more reasons to own one in the first place. It just wasn't enough of an update. Although ModernVintageGamer did a video recently to show that it is kinda great for homebrew if that's your thing. I might end up modding mine and shoving my GBA collection on there at some point. GBA games sprite based games of that style look great on the system.

@Heavyarms55 I think it has some essential improvements:

• Better 3D screen
• A second analogue stick
• More shoulder buttons
• Better build quality
• Improved CPU

But they should've made more games taking advantage of the "New"'s capabilities.

The right stick makes it all worth it though. Playing XC or DQVIII without it would be annoying.

Well officialy starting my 3th playthrough today!

Put a good dent in today. I'm at the mountain area and just defeated the goon to get the magma. My question is just before you head to that area there's a pool with a spring that shoots you up. I did It, got shot up, and plummeted to my death lol. What's that for?

@NintendoByNature You're definitely ahead of me now. Bonkers week now that I'm back at work. I just properly visited the Alcamoth in my (short) session last night and am now back out on Eryth Sea to work on a story quest.

@Heavyarms55 wasn't kidding about the Alcamoth being loaded with a ton of side quests....I might leave a few of them alone for now. XD

I'm 95% certain that for all of those, if you don't press anything, it lets you land somewhere safely. At least in the original it did, I cannot confirm if the remake maybe has some issue that makes it more likely for you to die. They're mostly used to travel to certain places.

@NintendoByNature Session in progress! Doing some exploring before advancing the story more. Though I'm gonna have to stop somewhat soon. I'm about dead lol.

@Tyranexx I typically do the same. I usually find myself running away from the dotted line into un-traveled territory. Been gaining alot of experience that way at least.

@NintendoByNature The water jet is supposed to get you back up to the higher layer. You maybe have to move in the right direction though. I dunno, I never use it.

The gap between them is quite small for me. I'd say XC1 is like 93/100 and XC2 is like 90/100.

It's really just the core story that makes the difference though. The story for XC1 is so well done and perfectly paced, and it uses the characters and environments so well to help propel the plot. Whereas XC2 feels a bit more of a mess. It has plenty of great moments and great features, but the whole thing doesn't blend together as well as XC1.

It was excellent.

I am prepared for the second half of the game. My brother said he never finished it because it got to be a bit of a slog in the latter parts of the game, and I have heard from others how the Mechonis areas can all kind of feel the same and just be a lot of battling... But I always make sure to stay properly leveled as I go. So I don’t think I’ll have much issue. Plus I’ve been skipping basically all of the side quests- which is a completely different approach that I took in the other two XC games. I don’t know why but I just... didn’t feel like I had the patience for it this time. I do take all the quests available, and I do hit the “!” on the map, but if I’ve got five out of six of some thing I don’t go looking for the last one, if I need to kill three monsters I don’t go looking for them, I just play the game normally and take care of any “!” as I travel along the story path. So I think I’ll manage fine.
