Nintendo official website states worldwide sales of 84.5 million units (as of 31 March 2021). Bit of guesswork, but could be around 90 million by now. Seems inevitable that it will pass the Wii on 101.5 million. Wondering what people think it can achieve in total. Gameboy was about 118 million and DS 154 million. Gameboy could be beaten, but DS is still way out there. Any predictions?
With three or four years between now and whatever the Switch successor will be?
100m Switches sold by this December?
The Switch should become the all-time best selling console, passing the PS2, somewhere in 2024.

I think they can easily beat the DS for sure! They've had insane momentum, and they could probably even eclipse the PS4 if the stars align. First party output is great now, and the hardware has not aged badly at all. History in the works!
I reckon it will be the best selling console of all time eventually. Such a great concept. And it has such strong momentum that I just can't see anyone thinking it wise to compete with it (no matter how much they want to.)
We have to take this with grain of salt. Why people are comparing the LifeTime Sales No Longer in Production with growing Switch sales. This are two unrelated numbers so we need to stop using bad metrics here. Not sure why people try to keep doing this as though the Switch is ending it's lifespan production or something. This is meaningless comparison - does neither system any services more then it does both dis-Service to their time and history.
The Switch has now surpassed the original playstation and Wii, having sold about 103 million units. I predict it will either become the third best selling console of all time after ps2 and ds, or number one.
@Cia I think it will easily sell 40m units over the next years, lets assume the next console is released in March 2024, it could become number 1 if they continue production for a couple of years after the next console is released? Or if the new console is fully backwards compatible maybe they will stop production completely?
If they switch production onto the new model I think the final number will be just short of 150m units.
What makes people really think they won't have a 2022 Update Switch unit? All those talk are PR talk nothing that anyone can verify one way or another. The sooner they update the better their market shares are. The current Switches are showing their age and talking as they will last 10 years is just mind boggling as newer GPU and CPU for Switch has more or less be testing and development all this time. Does people think one day Nintendo wakes up and says let's make a new Switch. That is why companies do R&D and product NDA testing but people keep thinking suddenly one day a New Switch comes online.
